TMI Warning!!! Just had some more green gunk - any ideas?

I am 19 weeks pregnant.
Last week had a suspected UTI and passed a lump of greeny snot-like stuff. MW said nothing to worry about, prob an infection so I went down to see her. She tested my urine and said there was stuff in it suggesting an infection so I had to do another urine test and a swab to be sent off to the hospital.
Both came back clear and am fairly sure the UTI has gone but just wiped and there was more snotty green stuff - anyone had any experience of this?
Will ring MW in the morning, too late to get an answer now and I have to go to work soon.

much much TMI but some important qs:
Is the snotty green stuff in your wee or coming from your vagina?
Where did the MW swab the first time round?
How green is green?

HermyGrain · 06/08/2007 18:59

I had a green-ish discharge for about 2 weeks - thought nothing of it! Eventually it developed into thrush! - bit of a bugger but easy to treat.
Gp did say if it was too green it may be a different type of infection.

becklespeckle · 07/08/2007 09:43

Thanks for answering me (on this gross subject).
It was green as in paleish but bright (like the early part of a cold snot-green) and is coming from the vagina. The swab was taken from just inside (I was told not to put it any further in). I am prone to thrush but know the early symptoms of it very well and am sure I don't have it!

Beckle, so sorry to hear about this. Really, don't know but would contact GP just in case.
Chances are it will disappear soon, but it seems unusual.

MrsBadger · 07/08/2007 10:03

Thrush in pg can look v different to non-pg thrush IME (no itching, no burning, none of that white cottage-cheese discharge) - bet it turns out to be that.
Keep an eye on it and eitehr mention it at your next routine visit or make an appt specially if it gets worse or goes on for long - you can always go to the GP if you think the MW isn;t taking it seriously.

(BTW if it's coming from vagina tis def not a UTI)

becklespeckle · 07/08/2007 10:43

Hmm, thats interesting Mrs Badger as I have none of the 'classic' symptoms. I had it very badly at the beginning of the pg and although it wasn't like this it also wasn't quite how it normally is, perhaps it has returned. I have phoned the MW this morning and am waiting for them to return the call at the mo. Thanks so much for your advice.

What MrsBadger describes is exactly what my thrush was like - not like normal! Even gp said it didn't sound like 'classic' thrush, but the treatment worked.

I had green discharge too at around 19 weeks. I had a cold at the time and was producing green snot from every orifice. Spoke to NHS direct and they told me to got to the doc or hospital. I didn't bother as it went away fairly soon. It did worry me at the time though. Spoke to other mums about it who said they had every colour mucus under the sun.

Wilkie · 07/08/2007 12:29

I vaguely remember getting this when PG but it obviously didn't worry me as I would have remembered.

My BF got it too who was pg at exactly the same time.

Check with your GP if you are concerned though.

Mumpbump · 07/08/2007 12:31

Beckle - I would get it checked out, if only for peace of mind...

DaisyMOO · 07/08/2007 12:32

I would probably speak to the midwife or the hospital if the swab was just inside your vagina, as they may want to do a high vaginal swab too. Probably fine, but worth checking out IMHO.

becklespeckle · 07/08/2007 12:50

Is reassuring to know that others have had this too! Waiting for MW to call me back, she is going to check if swab results came back yet...

green can be chlamydia.. but presumably that isnt the case if others have had it in pregnancy, the green i mean

becklespeckle · 07/08/2007 13:03

Well swab results were clear too. MW said they do not know what it is but increased mucous is normal in pregnancy. I asked if it could be some of the plug come away and they said it is possible but not to worry if there is no blood or abdominal pain. Apparently with 2nd, 3rd etc pregnancies the cervix does not always completely close so you would be more likely to get more gunk.
So not too much help there but am very reassured by those of you who have had this and been fine. Thanks so much for taking the time to reply x

Beckle - have just had confirmation from my friend that yes, indeed, we both suffered with green snot gunk at varying times through our pregnancies
