periods after pregnancy?

First-time-mum with what's probably a dumb question... but I want to improve my knowledge before I ask my GP or HV, so that I hopefully won't come across as totally clueless!

DD is 12 weeks, I'm not BF and my period came back super promptly - almost exactly 6 weeks after birth, lasted the normal length, etc. But I haven't had a period since. Pre-pregnancy I had a really regular 24-day cycle, basically since the age of 14, so I kind of was expecting things just to click back into place.

I've really felt like I'm about to get my period for a couple of weeks (sore breasts, a bit bloated... a bit moody!), but it hasn't appeared!

I guess I'm just looking for reassurance that this is normal and I shouldn't be bothered about it ;)

Take a pregnancy test to confirm you are not pregnant then go and talk to your GP. You may have to go back in 6 months if your period hasn't returned.

Is it actually worth going to the GP about this soon? I know that some people's periods are a bit irregular after pregnancy, but I hadn't anticipated it (because mine came back so promptly and was always really regular before).

And the first point you mentioned... arghh, it hadn't even entered my head! Terror! I will definitely take a test though, once I have worked up the courage :s

Thx for the advice!

Incidentally, a friend told me today that hers didn't come back for around 6 months after birth - but as I understand it, that's more usual when bf?

Sorry for the stupid questions, I feel like a clueless idiot :)
