Looking for some advice. First time pregnant went to epu yesterday. On Thursday I only tested positive for pregnancy in the evening and then had faint negatives yesterday. Had blood tests which showed hcg level of 22.7. On scan they couldn’t see a gestational sac but from when I was intimate with my husband we worked out it would be around 3 weeks. They told me it might be a chemical pregnancy but I feel so hot which is very unusual for me. Do I consider myself pregnant? And has anyone else had a similar experience? Tia xx

With hcg that low, you wouldn't see a sac. It needs to be over 1000/1500. Are they repeating the bloods?

What prompted the scan and visit to the epu?

Three weeks from conception or three weeks pregnant?

If you have hcg in your system, yes, you are currently pregnant. I do hope everything continues for you, but it really is a waiting game.

You can’t get faint negatives? If no line, it’s negative. If pink or blue line, positive no matter how faint.

You are extremely early pregnant, I’m surprised they scanned you. What prompted your visit?

At this stage it’s a total waiting game. Frustrating but early pregnancy is. Have you used an online pregnancy calculator? You need the date of the first day of your last period & it’ll give you a rough due date and no. of weeks.

Hang fire & if your period doesn’t arrive, you are pregnant!

Sorry ladies typo I meant faint positives! My period is a week late. I went to epu as I have abdo pain which they were worried was an ectopic. Do I still need to calculate from first day of last period if I know when we actually slept together.

The date you were intimate isn't necessarily when baby would have been conceived so yes use the first day of your last period Ovia is a good pregnancy app to try good luck sending loads of sticky baby dust your way

If it turned out to be a chemical pregnancy or a non viable pregnancy does anyone know if my period would come? I’m very anxious

I'm not 100% but I don't think it would have they said when/if you're to go back?

Abigailangel · 25/08/2019 09:21

They said retest next Friday and if still positive to go back for repeat bloods and to be seen again. It’s hard to not retest though. They saw the corpeous luteum in my ovary but couldn’t see a sac which is what is scaring me

They didn't see a sac because your hcg was too low. It needs to be above 1000, sometimes 1500 to see anything on a scan. Yours was 22. Hcg doubles roughly every 48 hours in the early days, if all is progressing as it should.

If it's a chemical, I'd expect your period to arrive, although it could be late. The bleeding from a chemical is sometimes a bit heavier than a normal period, sometimes not.

There is nothing thing you can do at this point. If it is a chemical, it's likely because the embryo has/had a chromosomal abnormality that is not compatible with life. There's nothing that can be done about that.

The corpus luteum is the remnant on the ovary of ovulation. It produces progesterone to support an early pregnancy, but is there regardless of whether or not you're pregnant until either af arrives or the placenta takes over making progesterone (sometime between 8-12 weeks).

Please try to be kind to yourself. One day at a time.

If I was to take a pregnancy test would it still show as faint if progressing?

pregnancy tests aren't great for showing a pregnancy progressing, whilst overall they get darker the further on you are, different strength urine, time of day etc all change how dark it would be so darker or lighter than yesterday wouldn't really show you anything.

To be absolutely honest with you at 3 weeks post conception (so 5 weeks pregnant) I'd expect higher hcg. I doubt the outcome will be good, but I really hope I'm wrong.

When I had my early loss I started bleeding 3 days after my lightest test. I just waited a week and retested, which confirmed it.

Abigailangel · 25/08/2019 18:41

My hcg has doubled today to 44.8 over the last 48 hours and my progesterone is 76.1. I feel a little bit better. All these emotions are a lot. Sorry everyone

Do pregnancy symptoms just stop if you do have a chemical pregnancy or miscarriage?

Mintypea5 · 26/08/2019 17:36

@Abigailangel sometimes they stop sometimes they don't but honestly right now your just too early to tell for sure. Symptoms don't kick in usually until 5+ weeks.

You HGC is doubling that's a good sign but a scan won't show you anything yet anyway. If your getting approve pregnancy tests then consider yourself pregnant for now

Hi ladies,

I need to some advise because I think I'm going crazy here. I'm nearly 7 weeks pregnant and I'm freaking out! Emotions are everywhere and I feel nauseous. Making myself sick worrying about every cramp I get, will I be a good mum, will I have enough money etc and now, just found out about something called a Molar pregnancy which is a pregnancy without a baby in your womb and it mimics the same symptoms as normal pregnancy until you can find out on your 12th weeks scan! Is there anything easy going about being pregnant????
