On 5mg folic acid due to high bmi. Do I need to take it throughout pregnancy?

I’ve been told to take it (5mg) until 13 weeks xx

I had to take it from 13 weeks to 20. Prescribed by consultant. Ive been on it again for 14 months as we are ttc dc2.

I also was prescribed 5mg folic acid because of high BMI I only had to take it until I had my 12 week scan then was told to stop the high dose one and just continue with the pregnancy vitamins which the midwife gives you which contains all of them

I had to take 5mg for a twin pregnancy, again just the high dose for 12 weeks and then back on to a pre-natal vitamin (I was told by my midwife it’s good to keep taking FA as it helps you absorb iron).

I take 5mg because I'm carrying twins but my midwife advised me to take them for the whole of the pregnancy. I'm under consultant lead care and will double check with him at my next appointment.

I was prescribed 5mg for a high BMI and was told by the midwife to take it throughout pregnancy. Was also prescribed a higher dose Vitamin D and 75mg aspirin, again take throughout pregnancy.

Sounds like it differs per person! OP I’d suggest just mentioning it to your midwife next time you see her.

Viticulture · 22/08/2019 12:41

Thanks I will do. I felt stupid asking the consultant yesterday as she was in a right tizzy and behind on appointments. Silly of me really. I'll keep taking them until next appointment since it will do no harm.
