Too fat for my normal clothes, too early for maternity clothes

So I was already fat before getting pregnant but after having horrible sickness (which I'm taking cyclizine for) I only felt better when I had something to eat so all this overeating has quickly added on weight to me already, I'm only about 9 weeks gone! Trouble is I'm getting too big for most of my normal clothes but it's too early for maternity clothes especially as we haven't told family etc. Other then wrapping myself in a sheet I don't know what to wear?!

Unfortunately the only thing that can be done is to buy bigger clothing. I’m currently 23 weeks and just starting to pull out my old maternity clothing. I’ve gotten by wearing summer dresses and skirts (these are all lose fitting that I already owned but the cut allows me to currently wear). I did have to start wearing maternity jeans though by 8 weeks.

I've spent the summer in soft harem type trousers from matalan - got the smarter patterns so I could wear them to work too.
They are still comfy at 17 weeks.

Sympathesis on the MS, I've been on cyclizine for about 7 weeks now.

Leggings are perfect - get loads!

Or get loose blouses.

I got some leggings in the next size up and am managing with those and loose dresses at the moment. I’m 9 weeks and have a high starting bmi - I’ve lost half a stone from nausea so far but I’ve no idea where from as my belly is bigger than it was! Don’t know what I’m going to do when I go back to work next week 🙈 xx

My clothes also didn't fit me from early on - I used the old elastic band to hold trousers together trick, plus loose and low tops. But also it's probaby just worth buying maternity trousers early, Nobody could tell that mine were maternity clothes until I really started to show, and they last the whole pregnancy, especially if you buy either roomy ones or tight ones one size up.

I got a few swing dresses as they didn’t cling but didn’t look suspiciously baggy! Floaty tops over jeggings bought a size too big might be good?

Can you still get belly bands? I haven't been pregnant for 8 years, belly bands were my saviour!

Leggings are great! Also, I got under bump maternity jeans when my usual ones got too tight, they were handy as they were just like jeggins. I've spent most of my time in one size up tops and leggings so barely have any proper maternity clothes

Lizzieee2727 · 21/08/2019 18:32

I'm 19 weeks today and have been wearing Jersey dresses/tunics and leggings pretty much since I found out. I was overweight pre-pregnancy too and for the first couple of months there was barely a difference except my knickers kept rolling down... I've got some maternity bits but are far too big at the moment.

TheBrockmans · 21/08/2019 18:39

It is worth buying a size up as you probably won't be back to your original size straight after the birth but too big for maternity clothes.

Savvysaz · 21/08/2019 18:54

13 weeks and had to keep pulling up maternity trousers today but normal trousers too tight. Luckily I had a size bigger jeans which I'm wearing but can't wear to work 🙄 so lots of dresses!

afternoontwee · 21/08/2019 19:06

I was in under bump maternity jeans from 8 weeks thanks to first trimester bloat. The underbump ones I found had stiffer panels in front which helped to suck everything in and with a loose top on they were undistinguishable from ordinary trousers/jeans.

ELM8 · 21/08/2019 19:14

You're going to have to buy some maternity clothes anyway and the earlier you start the more wear you will get! Maybe maternity jeans and normal cheap tops (Matalan do a lot of looser ones) that are a size up? No one will be able to tell they are maternity jeans!

NeatFreakMama · 21/08/2019 19:16

I'd get on with maternity clothes. I'm 31 weeks and too big for normal clothes AND too big for most maternity clothes Confused
