Does anyone know if I can take this during pregnancy? Hospital prescribed me some omeprazole last month and am almost out so I was just going to get some OTC. But all they had was nexium and looking online omeprazole seems the safer option. I don't want to take up a GP appointment if I can just get it from the pharmacy

Do a telephone consult with your doctor, I’m on omoperzole.
Ask for it to be put on a repeat, that way you can just order your prescription next time

Talk to the pharmacist. They will know wether it's safe to take in pregnancy or not.

Pretty sure you shouldn't from when I conducted research last year. Nobody has studied the effects of it on pregnancy iirc.

Esomeprazole is not as widely tested - a couple of studies showed a small chance of issues with the fetus in rats but some show nothing - as a result it’s not routinely recommended in pregnancy meaning the effects in human embryos has not been studied enough to say yes or no to safety. Nexium itself state that caution should be taken in pregnancy. NICE says only to be prescribed of benefits clearly outweigh the risk. I decided not to take it and wait on omeprazole prescription to be processed as that’s known to be safe xx
