@Greyworm its my first too.

Lasies, I need some advice. As I previously wrote we had our scan last week. Well I had a phone call from the hospital a couple of hours ago. My OH and I went for the testing for downs/Edwards / patau syndromes.

I've been told my downs results are low but my edwards/ patau risk is high. I know it's not accurate and not 100% but my brain is going into overdrive and I feel sick. I'm scared if I'm honest. Keep trying to feel positive but it isn't working.

Show19 · 20/08/2019 18:56

Sorry @Greyworm I read your post wrong x

Lou2120 · 20/08/2019 19:28

Show19 please don't panic sorry your going through this. Will you have further testing?

Greyworm · 20/08/2019 19:32

@show19 sorry to hear this. What are the next steps? I hope you are both OK. Any risk and they flag it up, theres every chance it will all be alright Flowers when have they booked to speak to you again?

Show19 · 20/08/2019 19:38

@greyworm and @Lou2120 thhank you both.
They rang me just before 5 pm today and I'm booked in at 10.30am tomorrow morning for the second step NiPT. So a blood test. She said she wanted to get it sent off before midday to get my results back for next week for me. It's a fairly new test and the NHS only got it in April so fingers crossed.
I really do hope this is just a slight scare but so much for enjoying pregnancy. Haha ( sorry trying to stay positive)

Greyworm · 20/08/2019 19:41

What day did you have your scan? And did they give you a figure? One of my friends had a 1/3 chance (high) but didn't have the follow up tests and went ahead with everything and her baby was fine. Its scary, but want to give you a positive true story. I guess you will know for sure if you have the further tests. I'll be thinking about you tomorrow xx

Greyworm · 20/08/2019 19:43

Also, as a teacher, it's good work doesn't start back up for a couple of weeks so you don't have to deal with work on top of other things.

Lou2120 · 20/08/2019 19:51

Also wanted to say my next door neighbour's had high risk for Edward's and her little boy is absolutely fine. Please keep us updated after tomorrow. What does the new test involve?

Show19 · 20/08/2019 20:16

Thank you both. I asked the midwife what my result was and if it was high and the midwife was quite vague. She said it depended on what I thought was high. I must add that this is a mid wife I've not met before.

I had the test with my scan on the 13th of August.
@lou2120 The new test is a blood test that looks at babies DNA in the blood.if the results come back as low risk its 99% accurate.
Thank you so much @Greyworm and @lou2120. Is making me feel more positive. Smile

June340oo · 20/08/2019 20:18

I’m due Feb 8th 2020 (the day before my wife’s birthday). This is our first baby after 2 years of ivf we are finally going to be parents. I’m currently 15weeks+3 days. So excited! Can’t quite believe it’s happening after the rollercoaster journey of ivf. Hello to all Grin

Lou2120 · 20/08/2019 20:19

That sounds like a good test with high accuracy! Really the midwife shouldn't be so vague as now your mind is on overdrive and very worried. I'm hoping they get your results back to you very fast! Although I'm sure everything will be fine x

Show19 · 20/08/2019 20:26

Congratulations @June340oo. Thanks fantastic news!! I bet you are excited.

@Lou2120. I've got everything crossed and will keep you all posted x

GagaBinks · 20/08/2019 20:40

Due first baby on 14th Feb! (hoping he/she doesn't actually arrive on that date though as I want them to have their 'own' day and not share with a national thing)

All going OK with me so far other than I'm getting fatter and fatter with no bump and I've turned into The Queen Of The Naps!

June340oo · 20/08/2019 20:46

@Show19 I also had the NIFT test after our baby came back as high risk for Down syndrome 1 in 78. Took 8 days for the results to arrive but came back low risk at a result of 1 in 10,000 so we can breathe a sigh of relief. Did they give you the option of finding out the gender? After paying near £300 we wanted to get our monies worth and found out we are having a little boy. Grin I hope you get the all clear. When do you get your results?

Show19 · 20/08/2019 20:54

@June340oo. Thank so much for sharing your story. I hope mines the same. Mine's through the NHS so no gender results. I have the texts tomorrow morning and they said I will have the results a week Thursday. It would be earlier but it's bank holiday weekend. I'm going to ask when I have the tests what my first results were. I know what to ask now. I think I just heard the words' high results ' and then all logic left my brain.

MO2x · 20/08/2019 20:55

One thing I learnt was deffo do not over buy. With your first everyone spoils you rotten. Anything after number 2 you don't get no help and just make sure you have essentials and basics. I e bottles. Moses basket. Monitors. Steriliser and baby grows ! You can't go wrong and as for labour. You can't plan it so don't think about it just make sure you have a bag prepared! Good luck. I'm on number 3 due Xmas eve so can't be all that bad lol x

June340oo · 20/08/2019 21:03

@Show19

How come you’ve got yours through the NHS? (EnvyWink) Ours had to be done privately or have an amniocentesis or a cmv but we didn’t want to risk miscarriage having either of them done so paid for the NIFT test, we had the test on the Monday morning and had the results the following Tuesday around 4:30pm. We were on tenterhooks for those few days. At least try and look at it in a percentage way, ours was 1 in 78 chance so there’s 77 chances nothing will be wrong, one of the ladies at the clinic we went to said it doesn’t mean your baby will have anything wrong just that 1 in 78 ladies that have the same results from the blood, weight etc 1 of them will have a baby with Down syndrome. Do you know what the risk was for Edwards/pataus? did they give you a number? Yes it’s a horrible feeling you feel elated after the first dating scan and then they ring and you hear high risk and all logic goes out of the window. I will keep everything crossed for you. Is this your first baby? X

Sandsnake · 20/08/2019 21:19

I seem to have a very similar pregnancy to June340oo - due 8 Feb and had to have NIPT as our Down’s risk was 1/74. Luckily our results showed the baby was 1/1,000,000 to have Down’s, which was a big relief. We had the test as standard on the NHS, but friends in Scotland had to pay so obviously just different Trusts and their policies, which feels very unfair.

Show19 - I hope that all goes well with the tests, I understand how nervy it is waiting for the results.

This will be the second baby for us. DS is 3 and claims to be very excited! Been feeling quite rubbish and so, so tired this time. But excited nonetheless - we took a while to decide on number 2 but now I’m pregnant I’m really happy about it.Smile

Show19 · 20/08/2019 21:21

@June340oo I'm not sure where you live but it's now available through NHS in Wales, since 30th of April. Your results were very good. I will definitely ask for the data tomorrow. I have my mum with me as my OH is working.
We ve literally just returned from telling the news to his side of the family, just hope the next results are positive x

June340oo · 21/08/2019 07:55

@Show19

We don’t live in Wales so that’s likely we why we’ve had to pay the price for the test. If you feel up to it, please keep us informed on the results. X

June340oo · 21/08/2019 07:57

@Sandsnake

Wow very similar story to ours, and due on the same day too! And so glad all was well with your results and you can breathe a sigh of relief now. Yes it is unfair some people have to pay and some don’t, it’s pretty obvious if you’re high risk you will do the testing to get confirmation and most mums will do the NIFT test before anything invasive with a small risk of miscarriage. X

Greyworm · 21/08/2019 19:22

@show19 how did it go this morning? Were you able to ask any more questions?

Show19 · 21/08/2019 19:29

@greyworm thank you for checking on my. I did ask. My results for Edwards/patau was 1 in 38. Still trying the figure out the other data. The midwife was great but she said she could help much more as I was only 1 in 2 ladies who had come back higher since the new tests came in 18 months ago. My test has been sent off and I will know next Thursday or Friday. It's a long wait xx

Lou2120 · 21/08/2019 19:42

Keeping everything crossed for you. Really hope these next few days go fast for you!!

Greyworm · 23/08/2019 22:18
