@MrsEG So exciting getting to tell your friends!

@LokiCat Thank you! How are you feeling?

@purplefig They disagree with all of it to be honest, which makes life a bit confusingGrin The nappy lady recommends storing nappies in an airtight bucket or bag whereas Clean Cloth Nappies says that rather than reduce smells this makes nappies stink and you need to provide airflow by putting used nappies in a holey laundry basket. CCN recommend bio powder as wee and poo are biological waste and need the enzymes to remove them. The nappy lady strongly advises against bio and suggests using very gentle non-bio detergents which CCN say simply don't clean well enough. CCN recommend stain removers and even bleach at times whereas the nappy lady doesn't. The nappy lady suggests bleaching out poo stains in the sun but CCN say that poo stains are from the poo not being cleaned off and bleaching it in the sun is masking the problem that your nappies are still dirty. Finally the nappy lady says to use half the recommended dose of detergent and CCN say that nappies are the dirtiest washing you'll have and most definitely need a full dose. It's interesting reading and I think I will follow the CCN guidance, although I am still slightly sceptical about an open laundry basket of used nappies stinking the house out haha

@RanchoRelaxo Great to hear you and Freya are getting on well. I'm not great at getting myself out of the house on time so looks like it's only going to get worse with a baby!

@stormtrooperjulian @MrsEG A pregnancy pillow could be a good shout actually. I kinda thought I wouldn't need one as I thought they were more so you don't roll onto your back but I like the idea of it propping me up to sleep on my front.

@LokiCat - ah thank you my dear! I’m currently in the hotel in a onesie just enjoying being away! DH is en route with pizza so it’s very exciting 😂

@MrsEG - I was getting a load of random pains that have now stopped; just from standing up or turning over in bed, so I feel your pain! I hope the midwife cuts you some slack and you start to feel like a broader range of food again 😊

@purplefig - you’re right, I need to put any potential negativity out of my head. I think I’ll give it to the 12 week scan and crack on with buying; thank you for the perspective. I do need a kick up the arse sometimes!

@RanchoRelaxo so pleased to hear Freya is doing well.

@ELW85 enjoy Birmingham- I hear the Botanist does good cocktails!

@LokiCat I made the switch straight away, but I think as long as you're getting the folic acid and vitamin D it doesn't really matter which pregnancy vitamin supplements you take

We've managed to get the house put back together 🎉 also spent some time chilling out watching a film this afternoon. DP is cooking a curry now and I think we might start on our hypnobirthing videos later.

Hope everyone else is having a good Friday night.

Hi everyone! Sorry taken a huge break because the nausea took over my life...

Saw the baby yesterday at 12 week scan which has made it so much more real, just really want the nausea to stop so I can start enjoying this.

Took a walk this evening which massively helped. Hoping everyone is having a good Friday night! X

@MrsEG I bet feeling a bit "oh sod off!" Is in inevitable from time to time as people will say stupid things that just aren't applicable for twins! If you don't meet another twin mum IRL there seem to be some great online communities and Instagram/YouTube accounts. Round ligament pains sound sore - is it just everything making room? Hopefully swimming will help. I'm not long back from yoga and it felt soooooo good to stretch everything out. Finally feeling like I've got a bit more oomph to do some light exercise (beyond walking to the fridge).

@TrashKitten10 ohhh thanks so much for going into all that detail. Tbh the lack of 'proper' washing was putting me off a bit, so I'm glad it isn't her way or the highway. Like you I way prefer the sound of the other method.

@LokiCat I'm still on the pregnacare pregnancy supplements. Pre pregnancy I ate vegan, so thought these might be a bit more comprehensive. But I've since gone on quite the cheese bender 😳

@ELW85 it's so hard to know what to do for the best as it's all so new. I say trust your gut wherever possible! On another note I'm making good progress on Ina May's Guide to Childbirth. I'd say if you're interested in having a natural birth, or if you're scared of labour, it would be worth a read. That said, it's American and things are very, very different over there so it's quite a dramatic read. As I understand, midwifes are rare over there and most births are attended by doctors. As such they've become quite medicalised so intervention rates are higher and it seems like women have less choices / need to be forceful to be heard. Well at least, that's what I took from it. The first half is birth stories (I haven't read those yet) and the second half is all about labour etc. Overall I'm glad Ive read it and I've definitely picked up a few gems. Got it from the library and glad I didn't spend £12 though.

@BostonFern oooo that sounds like a lovely evening! Let us know how you get on with the hypnobirthing videos? Is it the positive birth company ones?

Have a lovely evening all! x

@TrashKitten10 So interesting (and confusing!) to see all the conflicting advice on cleaning cloth nappies. I honestly think like everything with babies you'll just figure out what works best for you as you go!
Yep - I love this pregnancy pillow my sister gave me - it’s so bloody comfy! I have such a small bump so barely need it at all, I just love it haha! Like spooning a cloud hahaha.

@ELW85 Yeah, I had a few little pains a few weeks ago (especially when I sneezed or coughed) but they’re quite intense now; really sharp pains that sorta take my breath away! It’s not constant though. It swaps sides too, so I like to think it’s each of them having a wee growth spurt!
Ha, the midwives are all lovely but with twins I have a higher risk of GD (no one has really explained why, as there is no diabetes in the family - perhaps it’s to do with the rapid weight gain?) but they really try and push healthy eating on me a lot because of this. Saying that, the last few days I’m managing a healthy breakfast and lunch, it’s just dinner that’s been a struggle. And I managed an entire day yesterday with no sour sweets!! Small successes haha. Have a fab time in Birmingham today!

@MrsR16 1940s weekend sounds fab! Enjoy :)

@purplefig It is really quite sore and sharp pains but they’re intermittent, other than that belly just feels tight. It’s just my uterus trying to stretch out at double speed haha! Ah glad you’re enjoying yoga, I start my Pilates in Tuesday! Going for a swim this afternoon so hoping that helps too. Like you, I just want to move around again!

@LindyMoe Sorry to hear the sickness has been so bad for you, but glad to hear your 12 week scan went so well! I also had mine this week, we must be quite close in dates :) I’m 12+6 today.

@BostonFern Glad you got the house sorted, bet it feels great to have that done and dusted!!

Have fab weekends ladies!!

@MrsR16 - a 1940s weekend sounds amazing! I had one for my 30th and loved every second!

@BostonFern - thanks for the tip but I was so exhausted we went to the hotel and I passed out 😂

@purplefig - thank you, I had forgotten about that book but I’m interested in as natural a birth as possible so I’ll definitely check it out!

@MrsEG - oh I hadn’t realised that about twins; it’s great that they’re giving you loads of support though 😊 your pains sound way worse than mine, but what a lovely thought that they’re having growth spurts!

Happy Saturday everyone! I hope you have an amazing time whatever you’re doing.
I’m off to find a Starbucks for some fruit toast (whilst I’m still in the mood for it!)

Morning everyone ! I couldn't catch up last night because we went straight for food after work then the cinema! Saw the new Tarantino film, it was pretty good if a tad batshit!

@TrashKitten10 @MrsEG, pregnancy pillows are da bomb! Although I still manage to end up on my back, so think I need to experiment a bit to keep me in place!

@ELW85, hope you have a lovely time in Brum 🙂

@Bostonfern, how did the hypnobirth videos go? I got the positive birth pack when it was on offer, but have yet to properly look at it!

@LindyMoe, glad your 12 weeks scan went well 😀

@Fivebyfive2 oh thank you!! He is a proper little character. Erm, it's been tough recently his colic seemed to peak. We tried infacol before dentinox drips all sorts but colief defo worked and still is. He's now much more smiley in the day and evening. Cooing. We even get to have playtime/tummy time properly now! How are you doing?!?

Also weird one. I've just put him down for a nap in his own cot for the very first time. He's been in there before when I've sorted his room out and washing etc but never to sleep. He's asleep but is it a wise idea to keep doing it?!

Morning all! We went out for a dinner and a Gil last night, as well. We saw the new Fast and Furious movie, which surprisingly wasn't too bad. I was worried I'd fall asleep during the movie though as I couldn't stop yawning through dinner!
Been having a lazy morning in bed with DH :)

Thanks for all your advice re tablets. Think I'll finish the conception ones for now, as it has the folic acid + vit d. Then I'll switch to some pregnancy ones.

@MrsEG oh sorry! Don't know why I thought you'd been before. I hope the swimming helps with the ligament pain. Enjoy your lunch today as well :)

@TrashKitten10 I'm okay, thank you! No symptoms, apart from sore boobs so I'm trying to enjoy that because I know it can get worse but then worried at the same time because I want all of the symptoms to start already 😂
How are you?
I can't believe how conflicting the advice between two companies are for cleaning cloth nappies. I was always against the idea because of smell cleaning them but I may look into to it as obviously it will be a huge saving.

@ELW85 pizza in a onesie sounds like a brilliant night! Hope you're having a great time :)

@MrsR16 oh a 1940s weekend sounds amazing - enjoy!! I hope you manage to power through the tiredness :)

@BostonFern glad you managed to get the house sorted. Must have felt great especially now that you get to enjoy the rest of your weekend! Hope the rest of your evening was nice, I love a good curry

@purplefig haha can't fault you, I had some great squeaky cheese last night at dinner - I love it!

@Delilah7 your little boy is so gorgeous! 😍 It must feel like time is flying by!

Me and DH were doing some baby shopping last night before dinner, as we're making a little hamper basket for his best friend's new baby; there's such cute things everywhere!! I wanted to buy the whole store 🙈 I can't wait till we start shopping.

I hope you all have a lovely Saturday :)

Hi loves! Hope you're all good. I'm up North visiting family this weekend which is lovely. Been to the gym this morning with brothers gf which felt great. Had a work away day yesterday in Brighton which was also great but super tiring.

@purplefig I'm half way through Ina May's book too and I've loved it. I started with the birth stories and although it's a bit hippyish it's great and quite inspiring.

@TrashKitten10 I can't believe the advice is so conflicted!! Makes me wonder what to believe as I kind of just want to trust one source and go with that rather than reading lots of different. @LokiCat they will save you money and are also great for the environment as you aren't chucking away all the nappies into landfill too- so that's another bonus!

@Fivebyfive2 which pillow do you have? I've got the dream genie one which also has a section for the top of your back so helps to sort of wedge you in place!

@Delilah7 is it for daytime naps or overnight? I'm sure it's fine for the daytime. Have you got a monitor so that you can see him/hear him when you're not there?

Report
Delilah7 · 17/08/2019 13:02

@bettythecat, I got my pillow off amazon, it is like a big C that I kind of wrap around myself!

So ladies, baby is doing just fine! Heartbeat is really strong, measured right for the timing 🙂 At first little one was upside down AND back to front, plus all curled up so wasn't sure we'd get a good look, but soon enough a wriggle was occurring... We're having a boy!! 😀💙 Time to find a name now, I don't think Homer will cut it in the playground 😂

I think we may look at a few things most likely after the 12 week scan! How are you doing?

@Bettythecat yeah I think that's the main thing, as well that it'll be so much better for the environment. I'll look into it and speak to DH about it to get his thoughts.
How have you been finding the gym whilst pregnant? I haven't been since I got my bfp. I'm worried the smallest thing will cause problems this early.
Enjoy visiting family! Smile

@Fivebyfive2 awww how exciting, congratulations!! Love the names Jack and Joe xx

So I sent off my self-referral form to the hospital on Thursday and have already received my 12 week scan appointment - 9 Oct! So far away!! I'll definitely have to book a private early scan now, don't think I'll be able to wait that long!

@Fivebyfive2 congratulations! Did you have a feeling he'd be a boy?

@LokiCat it's impressive you've already had your scan details come through! When do you think you'll book an early scan for?

@Bettythecat congrats on the gym going! Glad you're enjoying the book too. I'm going to read the birth stories now I've finished the other bits.

@Delilah7 wow two months already! I know the guidance is they should sleep in with you for six months, not sure what the experts say for naps. It seems impractical that you'd be next to them every minute though?! Let us know if you find out.

@ELW85 enjoy your fruit toast. I started off well with a smoothie for breakfast, but had a pie for lunch 🤣

@MrsEG how did your swim go? I'm just back from a 2hr dog walk and it felt good to move, but I'm bloody shattered now.

@LindyMoe sorry to hear about your nausea, it can be really rough going. Hopefully it'll ease up as you head into the second trimester.

@Eltzbee how're things with you? Haven't heard from you in a while lovely.

Have a lovely Saturday everyone! Nice and sunny where we are so we made the most of it with a long dog walk through the woods / beach. I'm zonked now though. Think a nap is on the cards 😏 then we're going out for dinner later.

@purplefig I know, I was really surprised when I opened up the letter! Although I've since realised that I'll be away for work that week so going to have to change the date. We're thinking of a scan around 8/9 weeks, so we can actually see something. So I t'll most likely be mid-September.
How lovely to have a beach near you, especially in this weather! Must have been such a nice walk. Enjoy dinner tonight 😊
I've been trying to sort the house out today, so think a nap is needed as well!

@Delilah7 He is precious! Look how he’s come along in 2 months already. Amazing how quickly they develop!

@Fivebyfive2 Congrats, a boy! How exciting! You can start really thinking up some names now - they’ll start to feel even more real!

@LokiCat How lovely of you making a hamper for your friends! It’s amazing how much more you start taking note of baby stuff once you’re expecting isn’t it! 9 October is my 20 week scan so we’re scan buddies :)

@purplefig I haven’t been yet - have been a bit stressed today (see below!) but trying to gear myself up for it now. Dog walk sounds absolutely lovely!

I’ve had a bit of a weird day today. For some reason I began feeling really anxious this morning; it’s been a few days now since I stopped most of the medication I was prescribed for the first trimester and I just suddenly became so panicky about it. I fell in to a horrible Google wormhole too (seriously, never google your blood results) and really got myself in to such a state that by the time it came to go to lunch with friends I almost backed out of telling them.
Had a good chat with DH about it when we got back; my rational self knows that a consultant knows best, they prescribed what I need for as long as I need it. I have a huge bump which reassures me every day! Everything looks great and healthy on our scans. I think my anxiety just took hold today and for some reason I let it worm in to my brain. I feel much better now for talking about it but also a bit drained.
On the plus side our friends were delighted for us (and I had a cracking burrito)
