Hi everyone I’m 12w+5 today , had my scan last week and everything was fine . I was just wondering when people started buying bits and bobs , or is it too early.
Thanks in advance

I'm 8+3 and I brought one little newborn top earlier this week. Not going to go mad yet but I had to have just a little something. Think I'll start really going for it after my 12 week scan. Six months isn't long to buy everything needed for a whole little person!

firstimemamma · 14/08/2019 09:09

We started at 20 weeks and my pregnant friend will be doing the same. Plenty of time imo but each to their own Smile

physicskate · 14/08/2019 11:01

Bought the pram at about 15 weeks, but it was a huge sale (down from £750 to £300!!!!). Everything else after the 20 week scan. Dh went on a massive kick, and nursery decorated and everything bought by about 28 weeks. We had been saving for the two and a half years it took to conceive though.

tisonlymeagain · 14/08/2019 11:04

I am 15+3 and so far I have bought one little outfit and a tiny teddy just to make it feel real, that will be it until after 20 week scan.

Not really superstitious but more I don't want it to hang around everywhere. Probably won't worry about pram/cot until about 32 weeks and bar some nappies, feeding stuff etc I won't be buying a lot more.

user00119922 · 14/08/2019 11:22

I'm 13 weeks today haven't bought a single thing yet. A friend and I have arranged to go and buy a few little outfits tomorrow nothing major, but now I feel like it's too early.

On the other hand my SIL started buying from the second she found out she was pregnant so she was able to spread the cost and this really helped them out.

Millsss · 14/08/2019 11:34

Hi Hun congrats on the pregnancy!
In my opinion there's no right or wrong time to start buying!
I'm 19+2 and we've got a moses basket, 3 in 1 travel system and bouncy chair lots of neutral clothes and blankets and the nursery is decorating just waiting on the carpet to get fitted!
I'm half way through next Monday and still can't believe how quickly it's gone so pretty happy with having most of it done so I can enjoy and relax as much as possible as I get bigger and heavier and tireder! 😂
Just do what feels right for you Hun! Xx

I’m 24 weeks and the plan is to buy last minute (so my family will go out when I’m in hospital). Don’t need much initially - just nappies / a few outfits / muslins / car seat / pram. We’ll do a proper shop after the birth. But that’s because mine is a very high risk pregnancy and we don’t really want to get ahead of ourselves.

PuffsMummie · 14/08/2019 12:15

I started buying the big items (pram, cot, car seat etc) around 24 weeks.

I didnt buy a single item of clothing, or blankets, muslins, comforters etc, because I was having a baby shower and I knew I would get a tonne of these. I would advise you to resist buying clothes until towards the end of your pregnancy, as people are SO generous with gifts and hand-me-downs (mostly unworn!), if you buy things as well, so much will end up never getting worn.

EscapeTheOrdinary · 14/08/2019 14:45

we started getting the odd thing before 20 weeks when we saw a good deal but try not to buy too many clothes too early as you might find you get given lots! we've been handed blankets, muslin cloths and clothes so we're glad we only got a few bits in different sizes. you may also find people offer you bigger bits. I tried to save the money for stuff instead and spread the shopping out. you don't really need that much to be honest so take your time to do your research before getting lured into what shops say you need that you really don't!

ELM8 · 14/08/2019 14:50

I'm 25 weeks and we went from having nothing two days ago to buying a pram, crib and car seat yesterday so feeling a bit more organised now ☺️ I guess there's no right or wrong, spreading the cost is certainly no bad thing.

We didn't find out if it's a girl or boy so that has curbed any outfit shopping so far which is probably a good thing...

mistermagpie · 14/08/2019 17:15

I never bought anything for either of mine until after 30 weeks. Got the pram next day delivery at 36 weeks with my first and my DH bought a crib the day after DS was born at 38 weeks! Honestly, do what you like but you have absolutely ages and pregnancy is really boring, so you may as well spread out the shopping.

I'm 24 weeks now with DC3, my other two are only two and four so I already have pretty much everything. I'll buy this one some sleep suits and vests a few weeks before I'm due.

Kitten22 · 14/08/2019 17:28

I'm thinking of waiting until the winter sales and black friday. I know it's a long way away but I'm due Jan 20 so it's ok I suppose. In the meantime if I do see a great sale I'm diving right in

PassMeAnotherCoffee · 14/08/2019 17:32

Too early to buy but never too early to put money aside to buy later. Nearly everything can be delivered in 48 hours anyway so bide your time and don't buy stuff you may never need - people will give you so much anyway.

Keyboard91 · 14/08/2019 17:47

Personally we start early and just pick up things as we go as spreads out the cost and means we grab all the deals.

Am 8 weeks now and have picked up a steriliser set as was 70% off as well as some muslins, a couple of items of neutral clothing, some cellular blankets and a bouncer thing (reduced). We are going to wait a while before car seats and prams etc as still need to clear out the nursery (to store them in) and aim to get nursery finished over XMas (26/28 weeks). But if the nursery set we like went on sale at a great price we’d buy it after the 12 week scan to save a few hundred £s.

So it’s totally up to you OP depending on what you want to do and find acceptable :)

Ticklemeelmo · 15/08/2019 22:19

I'm 20 weeks and only bought 2 items of clothes so far. We have been to browse prams, cots etc but not bought any of the big items yet

Angelinthenightx · 16/08/2019 13:06

I got little bits after my 20wk scan. Got my pram at 24wks.been buying clothes for a few months.getting cot etc 30-32wks.
No right or wrong time just get things when u want x

tisonlymeagain · 16/08/2019 14:52

Returning to say I wasn't planning to buy the Aldi baby event is on and couldn't resist buying dribble bibs and muslins today!

Shmithecat2 · 16/08/2019 14:53

A pack of 3 vests from Mothercare after a good anomaly scan at 20 weeks. Nothing else then until 36 weeks.

CornishMaid1 · 16/08/2019 16:20

I haven't bought anything yet (currently 10+4) but my Cow & Gate cow arrived this week so that has satisfied my need to have something!

I am planning to wait until end of November at the earliest (I think I'll be about 26 weeks then) as not due until March and will have Black Friday, pre-Christmas sales and January sales - not buying full price now if I can get a bargain then.

sweetsaltypopcorn · 16/08/2019 16:22

I bought some unisex vests etc around 8 weeks. My mum has been buying little bits and pieces every couple of weeks because she's very excited. We got married at 24 weeks and had a pram, cot and moses basket bought for us as presents. I'm now 27 weeks and this morning bought a high chair; tomorrow we are decorating the nursery.
There's no right or wrong time to buy anything, as long as you have the space to store it!

NapsAndTea · 16/08/2019 19:03

I got one thing after an early scan (9 weeks?) then after 12 weeks happily bought away! Now 21 weeks and have most things 🙈

dottyrobin · 16/08/2019 19:11

I'm 19+2 and bought nothing. Might start to think about it in another 3-4 weeks or so? I did take a look at the Aldi baby and even then wasn't tempted!
Maybe I'm just weird? Grin

Newmumma83 · 16/08/2019 19:15

I think I brought some socks for my baby at about 28 weeks ( ish ) it was later on as was terrier of jinxing it.

Started saving for what we needed early on Actually really started preparing / purchasing clothes at around 33 weeks ... and the. Literally went into over drive washing and ironing it all.

Bedroom we started around 32 week mark but literally finished it 2 weeks before he came but cot was set up in our bedroom from about 35 weeks.

My bag was packed a couple of days before my due date ... he came a week after my due date.

Big congratulations though Flowers

homley · 16/08/2019 19:20

Congratulations go with what you feel is right for you :) I am 32+1 and have only just started buying things, although have had a lot given so we weren't completely without anything.

TimeIhadaNameChange · 16/08/2019 19:26

I'm 11 weeks and the only things I've bought for the baby so far are newborn nappy wraps, which were on sale. I do have a cot, a lot of blankets and a few other things, but they were given to me by a friend who was moving away.
