Bad heartburn first trimester??

Hi. I am 10 weeks tomorrow and every time I have my tea I get awful heartburn for the rest of the night. I sit up right and my chest hurts and I just belch all night long and just want to lie down. Then when I eventually do lie down, or try to go to sleep it just feels worse. My SO got me some Rennies but I’m on edge about taking them all the time. Any solutions? It just seems to be my tea, when it’s a bigger meal

Really becoming a pain !

What worries you about taking rennie ? .... I suffered terribly with heartburn, i had industrial size bottles of gaviscon liquid all over the place that I swigged from throughout the day

I don’t know, I think I’m just wary because I’m still early on as I’m only 10 weeks

I had the same woth my first and the only thing that worked for me was milk!! Big glass before bed (even middle of the night sometimes!).

Don't eat your tea all in one go, have smaller meals. I find eating earlier in the evening helps too. You may find certain foods worse than others as well.

Don't be afraid to take the rennies

mistermagpie · 11/08/2019 23:01

Rennies are totally totally fine. I have terrible heartburn in pregnancy, was swigging gaviscon by the bottle in my first one before I realised there were better things out there. Ranitidine was a lifesaver in my second pregnancy and I'm on omeprazole in this one, which has been the best of the lot.

Don't suffer, there are lots of options but if Rennies work (they never touched my heartburn) then don't feel guilty.

mundaneflounder · 11/08/2019 23:02

I had really bad heartburn with my first. I mainlined the rennies. I had two a night minimum for almost the whole pregnancy.

Second time around in my second trimester I mentioned it to my consultant. She gave me a prescription for ranitidine. It was amazing. Heartburn stopped completely and I felt so much better. Only then did I really realise how crap it had been feeling heartburn so regularly.

So see the doctor, get a prescription and feel better. Don't suffer, you don't need to :)

AnneLovesGilbert · 11/08/2019 23:06

Ranatidine on prescription. It’s at least twice the strength of anything you can but OTC and will help. You don’t need to suffer OP. Pregnancy is a marathon not a sprint and you won’t get a medal for being uncomfortable. Heartburn is grim so take the pills! Rennie has gaviscon didn’t touch it when I was pregnant and there are things that will help.

I suffered right from start to finish with my other pregnancies and third time it’s reared it’s ugly head! I don’t even have to eat or drink anything! It’s just there! Nothing works! I drink gavison from the bottle, doesn’t touch it so I gave up. Same with rennie and milk doesn’t work either. I’ve been in tears tonight it’s that bad. Definitely de ja vous! I’m not even holding out hope my baby will have hair to show for it as my girls were both bald until 2 and people thought they were boys! X

@Starlight84 - get to the GP and get omeprazole. Honest to got it has saved me this time and is fine in pregnancy, I suffer really debilitating heartburn and I am free of it almost completely now x

Starlight84 · 12/08/2019 21:09

@mistermagpie wow! That sounds good! Between constipation and heartburn I’m in agony! X

mistermagpie · 12/08/2019 23:20

Well I am saved from the heartburn but the constipation is another matter! Pregnancy is all glamour eh?
