So I had my 12 week scan yesterday for baby 3 and was told all okay! Told close family about the baby & everything started to feel real!

Had a phone call this morning from hospital about my blood results to be told I have a 1/15 chance of baby having Down’s syndrome...

I’m heartbroken & I’m struggling to make much sense of it all! Has any body had this happen to them?

I have a 6 % chance of baby being affected. Has anyone had the test & it all be okay? My head is just spinning right now & im scared!! Sad [cry]

I'm sorry you're going through this. You might like to ask the hospital for counselling to help you understand things better and work out what to do next (if anything). Please look after yourself Flowers

There is a 94% probability that your baby is unaffected.

Go onto Facebook, and look at 'Don't be sorry'. If you baby does have DS, life can still be fantastic Flowers

@Squiff70 @KatnissMellark I’ve got an appointment booked for Wednesday to have the test done to see whether or not baby has it. The lady on the phone said it was measuring 3 which is normal range but on the higher side. So I’m hoping it’s just a precaution & baby is all okay & fine! I’ll find out next Friday.. so a long week ahead but I’m praying everything is okay.

Thankyou both for your lovely words x

I'm sorry to hear this. I had high risk last year from nhs and then got a NIPT test which I paid about £360 for. It's a blood test and it came back 1/10,000. Get a NIPT test completed ASAP and you'll have a better understanding what you're dealing with. Apparently the nhs testing for downs isn't as reliable xxxx

It is a lot to take in @Millzox
What test are you having? I’m presuming CVS or amnio? They are invasive tests where a sample is taken out of your uterus to test baby’s DNA directly and to give you 100% answer.
You do not need to consent to it by any means - you can just continue with the pregnancy if that is what you decide and just have extra monitoring.
Was it the nuchal fold that was ‘3’? Presuming centimetres, depending on how far along you exactly are, that is higher that normal range. What were the rest of your labs, ie PappA etc?
The consultant on Wednesday will talk to you in detail about your results so far, likely outcomes etc so don’t be afraid to ask questions if you are unsure. Do take someone with you. You can also ring the midwife on Monday and ask prior to the appointment on Wednesday.
The Antenatal tests section on here has lots of threads on this - worth a look. ARC can also help.
NIPT test will only give you another probability/ likelihood @baby1baby2, it does not give an absolute answer unlike a CVS / amnio and may or may not be the right test for OP at this point.

@Tini17 It came back at 3mm exactly the midwife said on the phone it’s a normal range just on the higher end... I’ve looked into a lot of info as you can imagine since finding out & 3mm doesn’t seem to be so awful as many people have that .... I was 12weeks 6days at scan but the baby was lying awkwardly & the midwife struggled to get a measurement.

I’m being rescanned on Wednesday before the CVS to make sure it’s definitely needed etc!

@Tini17 my hcg was 96.340
And my Pappa a was 1.6070

If that makes any sense at all x

Hi @millzox they always rescan before a CVS and it is done under scan.
3mm (not cm🙄) can be nothing or it could be an indicator of something hence my question about the rest of your bloods.
In any case, they will talk to you in detail before consent to any procedure.
(If you are having the CVS, take someone with you as they recommend you don’t drive after and rest for a while).
x

@Tini17 I did post my bloods under the post but I don’t understand a word hahahahaha. My partner & family are being really supportive & think everything will be fine.. I’m an emotional wreck & I’m so worried about everything! Wednesday is going to drag.. I get my results on Friday & then the rest of them in the post but initially all clear on Friday... just wish I could pull my self together for now but I just keep crying

Can you afford a private Harmony test? My sister in law had one for her last pregnancy as she got 1/10 for Downs and it came back as totally normal. And her now one year old has no issues. She said it was the best £500 they’d ever spent, to know one way or another.

I know it’s not 100% but I think like 95%..

Sandrine1982 · 10/08/2019 13:17

I also recommend Harmony! It will put your mind at ease. Private clinics can book you in very quickly and you get your results within about 5 days. Worth every penny. Good luck.

Millzox · 10/08/2019 13:39

@Bol87 @Sandrine1982 I can’t afford the private test unfortunately Sad I’m having the CVS on Wednesday .. I know it’s invasive but I just have to know what’s going on with my baby Sad
