I’m convinced I’m pregnant but I keep getting negative tests

I have recently come off my contraceptive pill (off for several months, back on for a month and back on again)

I have had the app ‘‘flo” for a long time now and so I can track when I’m to expect my period/which days are high chances to become pregnant

My last period began around the 8th of July and lasted a few days...

I then had sex on both the 14th of July and again on the 23rd July (first, the day before a chance to get pregnant day and the second time right in the middle after the highest chance day)

I didn’t think anything of it at all but in this last week have experienced extreme fatigue, loss of appetite, increased amounts of discharge consistent with early pregnancy discharge, and light intermittent cramping

I am currently a few days for my period but there are no signs it’s coming, I have taken a test a few days before my expected period and again today but they have both come back negative

Has anybody experienced anything like this? I completely understand that nobody can tell me I’m pregnant other than a positive test result and that I need to wait longer but I wondered if anyone else has ever just ‘had a feeling’...I have never been pregnant before but I have also never felt different like this (I am totally open minded to the concept of convincing myself I’m pregnant too) it’s just been on my mind for a while and my period is nowhere in sight

Hi OP, I've never experienced anything like your going through, but just in response to the last part about 'having a feeling'
Trust it!!
A little about me! - First pregnancy, missed period - positive test - ended in miscarriage. Was desperate to try again straight away, Second pregnancy, missed period, positive test - ended in miscarriage. After my 2nd loss I stopped trying as I couldn't bare the heartache. 3 months later, I had a feeling I tested 2 days before missed period and BFP, my daughter is now a happy healthy 3 year old! Now 18+5 with pregnancy no.4 all okay so far!!

I would always say trust your instinct. As you say nobody can tell you if are or aren't but instinct is real!!

P.S - HCG varies in each person so could just be that a HPT isn't picking up enough HCG to give a positive reading or the HCG levels just aren't strong enough yet!

Wishing you the best of the luck and hope you get the result you want xx

I’m 8w5days. I didn’t get a positive on this pregnancy until I was 5 days late! I was so confused as I tested early with my ds and this time I felt pretty nauseous before I was even due my period. In fact I started to think that if I wasn’t pg then I must alternatively have some hideous illness I felt that crap and had no period! Good luck!

Have you been using a standard test or an early reaponse test?

ElPontifico · 08/08/2019 18:54

Same thing for me. I was about a week late both times before it showed up on a pregnancy test. The second time round I recognised the (horrible) pregnant feeling before my period was even due, but had to put up with DH saying "But you might not be" for over a week before I could finally wave the test in his face...

I think it's pretty easy to convince yourself you "feel pregnant". Especially when you've never experienced pregnancy.

People tend to forget all the times they "felt pregnant" but weren't, and just remember the one time that they were.

I’m so sorry for your loses, but it’s amazing you have a lovely healthy little girl now.
Thank you for your reply, I thought I was mad about the whole just feeling different thing...a negative result is always a kick in the teeth when you think you know what your body is telling you
I’m in a place where if my period came now, I’d be shocked

X

I’ve seen a lot of women say they tested positive even before their missed period...and others say it took weeks after to get a positive result
The frustrating thing is waiting, I keep trying to get the thought out of my head but my body keeps sending me more signals it’s the strangest thing, I just wondered if many other people had the same experience as me
But you’ve had it both ways, that’s crazy x

I used an early response before my missed period and then a normal one the day after, I’d it doesn’t come by this time next week I’ll take another

You’ll be much more in tune with your body now you are TTC, every twinge or feeling and you count it towards being a pregnancy symptom. In addition to the early pregnancy symptoms, I had a metallic taste in my mouth when I was pregnant.

I hope it is good news for you, but if I can offer you any advice, honestly...wait until you have missed a period and take a test, otherwise you will drive yourself wild symptom spotting.

This is where I’m at right now! I feel strangely different, and the cramps I’ve got aren’t comparable to period cramps at all...and both times I’ve had a negative I’ve thought I must just be over thinking it. It’s reassuring to see other people have had negatives before getting a positive

I've had 4 pregnancies - 2 we were actively trying for so I tested every day after 9dpo, so didn't really have any intuition that I was pregnant those times as it was so early.

The 2 pregnancies where we weren't actively trying (just letting nature take its course iykwim) I just got a weird feeling once I was 4 days late (same no. of days late both times!) that I should maybe just do a pregnancy test. I've never had that weird feeling that I should test and been wrong. It's a bit spooky.

Good luck, I hope you get the result you're looking for

If you aren't pregnant, I recommend opks next month - much more reliable than apps! Also remember the egg lives less than 24 hours so if you can have sex every day for your fertile week that will really up your chances. Fingers crossed for you x
