I'm 45 and rather unexpectedly having a 5th child. It all seems more scary this time around, familiar, but with other worries.

Wonder if I can join, please? I’m only 34 but DH is 60 and soon to become a dad for the third time! His other kids are adults and are quite relaxed about it all, and his mum is delighted (she’s on her second marriage too and totally understood that we wanted a child together, even though when we got married we definitely didn’t want a kid!)

It still feels embarrassing and awkward, though! Bad enough (in other people's eyes) to be married to someone so much older/younger, but to be having a baby as well! Still, DH is confident that it will do wonders for his life expectancy 😆 and I’m thrilled. I’ve never been maternal and all of a sudden that’s completely changed, and I’ve got a very wriggly kicky baby inside me! 21+5 and expecting a boy. I love him so much already 😄

@stitchwitch84 welcome!! I think we forget that the Dad counts too and your DH certainly fits the bill. Congratulations! It's wonderful that the baby is being accepted so widely, some people are so judgemental, I don't think they realise how painful their comments can be, so it's great you've had such positivity. I'm also hoping that this baby will keep me young and active!!

Welcome @stitchwitch84!
My partner and I also have a joint age of over 90 and it will be his first at 51 years old. He's always wanted a family and his friends have been so pleased for him, even though they are all now at a different place in their lives with older teenagers and young adults.
It's lovely to see how supportive people can be when they know how important something is to you. We are both young at heart and in good health so are confident and very excited about this new, much wanted chapter in our lives!
I'm just a few days away from you - 21 weeks tomorrow!

AquaFaba · 23/08/2019 16:54

Hello - I’m 44 and am 35w today with dc2.
Had dc1 at 41.

Anyone got done great ideas for how to explain to DP the impact of being pregnant has on body?! The tiredness, the breathlessness, the getting fat, the hormones (currently feel very PMT) ... he just doesn't get why I'm different!

@45andfine I've got my husband to download a couple of apps like BabyCentre and Ovia and given him my log in details- he kind of just went along with it at first to shut me up but now he's reading bits and bobs here and there. When I mentioned feeling massive for 16 weeks today he said "well it says on that app that..." so I was quite pleased. I think he feels more involved and on the same page as me now too. He's a good egg really but I guess it's not happening in their bodies so it's easy to ignore- especially if we're just getting on with it.
Maybe that will help 🤷🏼‍♀️xx

45andfine · 26/08/2019 21:41

@ginny1234 oh good idea! I've only just downloaded the Bounty app, I'll have a Google

Little update from me:

Our NIPT test results came back as really low probability of any of the three trisomy. Much more reassuring than NHS 1:25 so really glad we had it done and we can just relax and enjoy it for the time being 😊

We also found out we're having a baby boy - had kind of been thinking it was a girl for some reason so have been getting my head around that today, but thrilled to be having a healthy baby boy on the way 😊

Other than that, I've been exercising regularly and eating more healthily now the sickness has reduced so feeling a bit more normal because of that. Still seem to have a massive, rock hard bump though! Baby movements are getting a bit stronger and more regular so that's nice.

Just waiting for my 16 week appointment next Thursday (at 17+4!) for the next instalment of my baby journey 😊

Any other updates from anyone? I hope you're all doing well xx

starflake · 29/08/2019 07:11

Congratulations @Ginny1234, what a relief for you. I'm 23+2 & dp felt baby move the other day for the first time. She's kicking loads & now waking me during the night! I love feeling her kicking away. Back in the hospital next week for next appointment, looking forward to that! Kids are back to school today here so I'm kinda dreading this, I have a feeling it's gonna make this pregnancy start dragging!

ParksAndRecreation · 29/08/2019 08:00

That's brilliant news @Ginny1234! You can relax and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy which is wonderful.

My Harmony test has come back inconclusive for a THIRD time (first two were with blood taken at 10+5, and 3rd with blood taken at 12 weeks) so I'm a bit fucked off. Combined screening at UCH was low risk, but I still wanted to get extra confirmation from Harmony but looks like I'm just destined not to. Consultant says I can try it again at 16 weeks, but not sure I can be bothered now!

In the mean time I'll just sit here and stuff my face as I've never, ever, EVER felt hunger like this before!

45andfine · 29/08/2019 08:03

Great to see everyone doing well! I seem to have got caught up in the holidays and have totally missed my 16 week check up!? (Now 17 weeks) Does anything important happen? I'll have to find midwife number and check 🤷. Do you phone midwife direct or make appointment via Dr's?!?
Dreading going back to work if I can't keep on top of things now! 😂

Thanks guys😊

@ParksAndRecreation what a ballsup, you must be so frustrated!
I guess kids must be a great distraction for making the time go quickly, all this testing and waiting seems to have made things drag for me lately so hopefully it will speed up a bit now 😊

@45andfine I totally have baby brain now 🤦🏼‍♀️ I keep doing stupid stuff at work - yesterday I spent 20 mins looking for an email I thought I'd flagged and had to get someone else to check theirs and forward it to me in the end. Turns out it was blatantly right there in front of my face the whole time 🙄 felt such a tit!

45andfine · 11/09/2019 16:40

How are we all doing?! I'm a week off of my 20 week scan and seeing the consultant for first time.

A friend warned me that he'll want to talk about sterilisation... Is this likely? I've no idea what it involves, but this IS def my last pregnancy so maybe a good idea?

I'm 39+3 will be induced Sunday if she doesn't arrive before then I'm trying everything but think it will be an induction just glad the weather isn't as warm it's been pretty horrendous !x

Em39ma · 11/09/2019 17:14

I’m 34+5 now and huge.
Got midwife again tomorrow, will be measuring way off the scale. So will be sent for another scan.
They are hopefully still saying she will be coming out at 37 weeks. Can barely move now. Last measurement I was 46, I reckon I’m now a good 50+.

45andfine · 11/09/2019 20:37

Oooo ladies!!! Imminent births! You both sound like you're totally ready to regain your bodies!! Are you both ready for the new arrival? Bags packed, nursery sorted...

OP posts:
Dipsy77 · 12/09/2019 07:12

Yes bags all packed can't wait to meet her now Smile

Ginny1234 · 20/09/2019 07:05

Hi everyone, I hope you're all doing well and bumps are growing nicely.
I had my 20 week scan yesterday and everything was perfect. Baby and me are both healthy and no concerns so I don't need to see the constant again until 38 weeks to discuss induction options. Really pleased everything is normal and we don't need any special care 😊
Just need to hang tough and decorate the whole house before Christmas then everything will be sorted!! Simples!! 😆
Xxx

Dipsy77 · 20/09/2019 10:18

Had my baby girl on Sunday 15th Ruby Ann at 9.52pm just under 3 hours labour weighing 7lb 8 1/5 oz. I was induced due to my age but went well. I'd forgotten how painful it was especially with the drip and when the head crowns I'm still a bit numb but she is definitely worth it

Aww @Dipsy77 so cute 😊 definitely worth it. Congratulations xx

MrsAmelia · 21/09/2019 09:53

@Dipsy77... she’s beautiful!!! Congratulations Dear ... well done... now try to enjoy her tininess. Flowers

45andfine · 23/09/2019 12:46

@dipsy77 How beautiful❤️❤️. Congratulations! Us old 'ens can do it! How have the first few days been? Any advice you want to pass our way?!? I'm currently back in denial that I'm pregnant again! 😱

OP posts:
45andfine · 23/09/2019 12:50

@ginny1234 glad you're progressing well! My consultant wants to see me for growth scans at 28 and 36 weeks. It was a locum and he didn't explain why, I was too shocked to ask 🤦‍♀️. I'm assuming they're worried it'll pop out through my previous section scar if it gets too big. I'll ask midwife...

OP posts:
Ginny1234 · 23/09/2019 19:35

@45andfine I'm sure it will just be routine if he didn't specifically mention why. Checking your scar is ok as you grow bigger seems like a sensible reason to check in with you.
How are you feeling? I'm feeling massive and struggling with aches, pains and acid reflux during the night but other than that ok. Lots more energy now which is great 😊
