8 1/2 weeks pregnant scan 2 sacs 1 foetal pole

Hi all my first post I’ve just turned 45 and I’m 8 1/2 weeks pregnant spotting & cramping
Went for scan told 2 pregnancy sacs, 1 with yolk and 1 with foetal pole measuring 4.5
Too early to detect heart beat / if viable but sonographer didn’t sound hopeful
Go back for another scan next week
Anyone experienced this? Thank you

Didn’t want to read and run.
No experience with this but I think they would hope to see a heartbeat at this stage. Is there any chance you’ve got your dates wrong and your actually not as far as you think.

Hi OP I work I'm a radiographer/sonographer.
The yolk sac develops around weeks 5/6 first, then the fetal pole by 6/7. Heartbeat should be seen by 6/7 weeks. By 8 weeks you should be seeing quite a clear heartbeat. Are you very sure of your dates? You could be a lot earlier than you think, it's very common this happens.
Was the gestational sac high in your uterus with a clearly defined shape?
You will need a second scan 10-14 days after your first scan to see what progress has happened. A lot can develop in the space of a week. If you start to bleed or become unwell please contact EPAU or A&E.

Thank you so much for responses my last period was 9 June 24 day cycle. The hospital said could have got my dates wrong and too early to determine if viable yet. Sorry if too much information when going to loo when I was wiping it was brown or red on tissue. This afternoon that has increased, more red still not lots will keep an eye on and go back if worsens. Sorry I’m not sure about the sacs there were 2 and 1 had yolk and other had think they called it embryo or foetal pole measured 4.5 but no heartbeat They said I could have 2, 1 or none and would know more next week. Hi sorry to post here I’m struggling to get a response on my own post. I took a test last Thursday 01/08 which was positive but not dark. I continued taking tests for a few days and they stayed faint not getting any darker. (All using Morrison’s test which seem to have good reviews) I left it a couple days and used 2 cheap eBay tests Tuesday with my FMU which most came out negative so I accepted it was most likely a chemical pregnancy. I repeated a eBay test this morning Thursday 08/08, one week following first positive test which was again positive but still not dark. My period was due 03/08 so 5 days ago. Any advice or similar experiences? I am so confused and anxious, I don’t want to go to the doctors as I know there isn’t much they will do and at the stage I am just waiting to bleed 😩 I haven’t had any cramps etc.

@Warrior9 it's hard to say what you should do. You can wait this out and see what happens - or you could go to a private fertility clinic and get an HCG test and then another 48 hours later to see if it's doubling. I would probably go for option 2 personally. But if you don't want to stress about it, just wait and see if you start bleeding. If you've had several positives, something is happening - even if the positives are faint. Whether it's just low HCG or a non viable pregnancy is what you need to find out. For piece of mind, I would get some blood tests done. All the best to you !

@Framlingham2 thank you, I am working tomorrow so won’t be able to get any tests then it’s the weekend and I’m hoping that if there is something wrong I will have signs bleeding/cramping by Monday 😩 thank you

Warrior9- I suggest waiting another week before testing again. Being 5 days late for a period isn't that uncommon. The gp is unlikely to do anything other than order a blood test. They won't send you for a scan.

@TheWildAndTheCurious I know that I am pregnant as I have done atleast 6 positive tests it’s just the lines not getting dark and the 2 negatives and then a positive again that is worrying me. I am going to just wait it out and see if I either start to bleed or everything is okay. It’s just torture waiting to either grieve or be excited as I can’t do either yet. I was more so looking to see if anyone had had a similar experience. Thank you
