Am I eating enough?

I'm worried I'm not eating enough! I've never had a massive appetite and could easily go with one meal a day before pregnancy! Finding it hard to get into a 3 meal a day routine!

Today I have had pancakes, fruit and yogurt for breakfast, tuna mayo jacket potato with a side salad for lunch and for dinner I've had lasagne and potatoes and veg. I've snacked on walnuts, grapes and a nectarine throughout the day to. And had 1.5 litres of water.

Is this enough food?! I'm trying to eat as clean as possible to get the right nutrients but I am just SO hungry this afternoon/evening! I'm worried it's not enough food and won't be getting enough to the baby ☹️

That sounds fine (good even). When I was pregnant I used an app to follow what I was eating, more to see how much I was over eating by but it was really helpful in seeing what balance of fat, carbs and protein I was getting and if I needed to alter anything

bobble53 · 06/08/2019 20:06

That sounds plenty to me and varied too!

abbs1 · 06/08/2019 20:19

That sounds a lot better than me! My nausea is so bad I've barely eaten. I'm seeing the doctor tomorrow as I'm worried I'm not eating enough.

Sounds ideal although ideally more water! You might feel the need for this later on anwyay.

Eat when you're hungry. You shouldn't need more calories except in the third trimester, and only an extra 200-300 calories at that!).

Looks like you're doing a great job!

Em39ma · 07/08/2019 07:07

My gosh you eat way more than me.
I have a small bowl of cereal for breakfast (plus a large handful of tablets, as I have HG) for lunch a cooked meal either meat and veg or pasta. For supper normally maybe a bowl of ice cream. There is no way I could eat any more.
It was same before I was pregnant.

That sounds perfect. I'm really hungry too this Pregnancy but hardly ate much before. @user1493413286 what app did you use? Was it MFP?

RLOU30 · 07/08/2019 07:14

Of course that's enough. You don't even need to eat more than a typical amount until the third trimester anyway & even then it's hardly anything. Don't over think it and take your vitamins.

devilishlygood · 07/08/2019 07:23

You need to double the amount of water you’re drinking, but your diet, as an example, sounds fine.

If you get thirsty, it can send hungry signals to the brain initially so hopefully increased input will help with the hunger.

It gets us eventually, the increased appetite!! 😂😂😂

Greyworm I think it was my fitness pal; it does ask what weight you want to maintain/gain/lose so I put my current weight and didn’t worry too much about that side of it as I was gaining weight. It helped me see that I wasn’t actually eating too much.

HattieRabbit · 07/08/2019 08:29

How pregnant are you OP?

If you’re in the late second/ third trimester I would say that’s a very good diet!
If you’re earlier then it’s still an awesome diet but don’t feel the need to push yourself too much. Most women struggle in the first 8-12 weeks because of nausea.

I’ve been trying so hard but lucky to keep down a few snacks each day. Cereal, toast...etc

I had a unicorn day yesterday where I magically felt better. So I was all over the fresh fruit and veg. But honestly so long as you’re taking your vitamins, eating something and drinking water baby will be just fine 😊

I’m like you in that I didn’t eat much before pregnancy, I’m just supplementing with vitamins x

Eat when you're hungry and if in doubt consult your midwife.

Hmmmbop · 07/08/2019 12:59

That's plenty! Unless you were underweight or losing weight without trying before pregnancy you really don't need to worry.

Preggosaurus9 · 07/08/2019 13:02

Sounds amazing! Wish I could eat that well. 25 wks here and feeling hungry all the time.

ImMeantToBeWorking · 07/08/2019 13:26

It doesn't matter if you think it is enough or not if you are hungry then eat!!

Before pregnancy I would have a bowl of cereal (breakfast), a wrap with meat and salad (lunch) and my dinner.

Now I am having a bowl of cereal and an apple (8am), 3 eggs scrambled and a slice of whole meal bread (10.30am), soup (the only way I can stomach veg at the min is in a soup) and fruit (2pm) a snack ie. cereal bar and an apple (4pm) snack after work (6.20pm) then it it time for a nap before I can managed cooking or eating dinner, so dinner at 8 or 8.30pm and I am still sometimes hungry when I get into bed and I shack on a slice or two of cheese. I am only 12+3 today, I am in SW so I am watching what I eat as best I can, and I am not putting on any weight (I am sometimes loosing it!!)

Listen to your body, if it is telling you that you are hungry then eat!!
