Booking in appointment

I found out I was pregnant last week with my first child and have given in my details at my GPS office for the midwife to contact me as instructed. However I've not heard anything back. I'm just wondering how long till I might hear from the midwife regarding my booking in appointment. I have PCOS so no idea how many weeks I am and I suffer badly with anxiety so feeling awful right now not knowing anything except that I'm pregnant. Any advice for a worried first time mum is greatly appreciated.

It took me a couple of weeks to hear back the last time I was pregnant. They just sent me a letter confirming an appointment for week 10

It varies by area. Look up the community midwives in your local area, give them a call and ask how to make your first booking appointment. Tell them you have PCOS and ask if this means you need to be seen sooner than usual - it might not. Booking appointments don't usually happen until 8 weeks or so, again depending on the area.

Good luck with your pregnancy Smile

Mine don’t call until you are 9+ weeks even if you make contact at 4 weeks. I’m assuming you had to give the date of your last period so they will be able to get a maximum number of weeks and will base on that until the dating scan.

Personally, if I were in your position I’d take a clearblue digital with weeks predictor. It’s not totally accurate but it would suggest a ball park for how far along you are?

Doctor didn't ask for date of last period, even if he had of though I have no idea it was over 7 months ago.
I took a clear blue digital test last week and it said 3+ weeks.
I have a look to see if I can find details of the local community midwives. Thanks for the help :)

I would contact your EPU, if you have no idea of your dates they might want to scan you. What made you take a test if it wasn't a missed period?

I've been trying for a baby for a while and periodically take pregnancy test.

My booking in appointment came about a week after calling, for 8 weeks.

When I rang up my GP to let them know I was pregnant they said the midwife doesn't see you till your 8 weeks, I was trying to have a baby so I had a vague idea how far gone I was to let them now. I was quite surprised they left you for so long until they saw you, especially as it is my first. Hope you get that phone call soon.

Thanks for the info. Because I don't know when I actually conceived due to not knowing when my last period was, I could be over 8 weeks for all I know so I thought they'd be in contact sooner rather than later but still not heard anything yet :(

I would try calling up again and just chase up when your appointment is booked in for just for your piece of mind. Or request the midwife rings you at her earliest convenience so you can have a chat with her. It's very unfair to leave you in limbo least I was aware how far gone I was so could track the process myself. In the mean time all they want you to do is take pregnancy vitamins & minerals hope that helps abit.

I'd ring up and check when you should expect to hear from the midwife. My midwife is only actually in the surgery one day a week so it seems like ages to hear back but she may not have actually been in to see your details yet! Defo push the fact you have no idea at all how far on you are and you're concerned and they should hopefully be in touch a bit quicker. Fingers crossed you get sorted ASAP Smile
