Breech baby 39 weeks

I am 39+3 today and have just come back from a presentation scan to find little one is breech. This has come as a total shock to me! it was picked up yesterday by my community midwife thankfully otherwise I may have gone into labour blissfully unaware 🙄 Midwifes have been saying baby was back to back for a while but I suspect she’s actually been breech all this time.

I have been offered an ecv on Thursday and failing that a planned section on Friday. I suppose my question is has anyone had a successful ecv this late on before?

I am low risk and this is my first baby btw

I'm only 32 weeks but my little one is currently breech so going to watch this thread with interest!
Fingers crossed for you 🤞

I don’t have an ecv story, but wanted to say that I was hoping for a natural birth...hypnobirthing, the lot, but my dd was breech. I rejected the ecv as it didn’t feel right for me, but did go on to have a very positive elcs. Trauma free and my baby arrived safely. Took a few weeks to recover but i have very good feelings about it despite it being the opposite of what I wanted. Hope everything goes well for you op x

Thanks @LauraPalmersBodybag, good to hear your positive csection story. I was very shocked earlier but am coming to terms with it a bit more now.

I’m not holding out much hope for the ecv as I don’t think there is much space left at all for baby to move. Even the midwife just palpating my belly to check bubs position was quite uncomfortable bordering on painful.

I know a lady who had two attempts to turn the baby manually, both failed and she ended up having a C section they rather stressed by this time.

I had a breach baby and decided against trying to turn her, I elected to the C-section which was terrifying for me but so much better for the baby I think, do whatever is best for you but the turning thing can be very very painful for you and also the baby can then move back into the breach position anyway

@marajade12 I totally understand. I found out a bit earlier than you as had a scan for unrelated issues...still, I cried and was so pissed off as I felt like my choices had been taken away.

I was feeling pretty crappy by 38-39 weeks and the idea of halving my bump manipulated and the 50-50 chance of it not working pushed me away from an ecv, but I do think it’s entirely personal and you should go with whatever you think is best. Follow your gut. I’m sure there will be some others along soon with good ecv experiences x

Don't bother, it doesn't work, just have a cs

I know it wasn't as far gone as you are, but I had an ecv at 37+5 which was successful (was a nice surprise as I have a high bmi, baby had been breech since at least 30 weeks and it is my first pregnancy so the odds of it working weren't great). It was quite painful - a lot of pressure was required to get baby moving, which I imagine will be worse for you if you are finding the midwife feeling for position uncomfortable, but I think the pain was worth it as I desperately want to avoid a c-section. If you really want a vaginal birth, I'd definitely recommend trying it!

My first was breech, consultant tried evc, it was like having a Chinese burn performed around your tummy! And unsuccessful as there really wasn't enough room too turn. Glad I tried though. Also tried scrubbing floor for hours on my hands and knees. Ended up with planned section at 39 weeks. Good luck!

Thanks for the posts guys, tried the ecv today but it was unsuccessful. Booked in for a section tomorrow morning so hopefully will be meeting little one very soon 😀

Hope your csection went well! I had ecv three fays ago, it was unsuccessful and i still feel bruised but i am glad i tried to do it. I have frank breech 39 weeks and the hospital will let me try for vaginal birth with close monitoring. Has anyone experienced a successful vaginal breech birth that can give me any advice?
