Early scan shows I am 2 weeks behind

Hi - wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation... I went for an early scan today which I expected was between 8-9 weeks according to my last period date.
However the scan showed I am 5-6 weeks - the gestational sac, fetal loop all looks fine she said but seeing as I should be further than I am she recommended coming back in 10 days...and just said it could go either way. I have been crying my eyes out since morning.... any hope from anyone ?

No experience with this but hope everything is ok. You must be so worried xx

LJS8987 · 05/08/2019 15:04

In my experience this didn't end well...HOWEVER...everything is so so tiny it is really difficult to get accurate measurements at this stage which is why we have the agonising 12 weeks to wait for our first scan from the NHS.
I'm sure you will get stories that go both ways, all you can do is look after yourself, try (i know this is easier said than done!!) to distract yourself for a week or so until you have another scan....alternatively can you contact your GP to do some bloods to see what your HCG levels are doing?? xx

boredpanda84 · 05/08/2019 15:09

My first scan I was expecting to be 9 weeks by my dates...i was told just over 6 by measurements on scan. He is now 3 months old and perfect. I had just ovulated later that month, probably due to travelling. Best wishes.

Zara84 · 05/08/2019 15:26

Thanks all @boredpanda84 did you see a heartbeat on your first scan

Thanks @LJS8987- I had blood work last week and all seemed to be going well ... I wish I hadn’t booked this private scan :(

Do you know when you ovulated? Also is if feasible for you to be 2/3 weeks behind when you think you are? - ie when did you get a positive? If you got a positive 4-5 weeks a go then 5-6 weeks pregnant would be impossible for instance.

I had this and it was a blighted ovum but I knew when I’d ovulated and had tested positive on 10 DPO, so when the dates were about 3 weeks behind I knew it was impossible so it wasn’t a surprise when it didn’t work out. However there are countless others where they did just ovulate late.

Karigan195 · 05/08/2019 15:30

Happens all the time. Sometimes it’s because the sac has not developed but most of the time ten days later there’s a post saying a heartbeat can be seen and it looks like dating was wrong or implantation later than you thought.

Just wait and see what happens. I know it’s hard but presuming the worst now is not helpful either

username336896 · 05/08/2019 15:33

A friend of mine found out she was only 10 weeks at her 12 week scan. Her cycles were abit all over the place so it looks like she got her ovulation date wrong. Hope all is ok OP

bobble53 · 05/08/2019 15:34

I had an early scan and thought I was about 7 weeks. We saw a heartbeat but the scanner said it’s CRL meant it was less than 6 weeks. The dates don’t match what we thought at all but I’m now coming up to 23 weeks with a very wriggly boy :)

I also did a post like yours and googled it but it just brings the bad stories up. Good luck x

Teateaandmoretea · 05/08/2019 15:43

I think to be absolutely brutal if you are certain that you are 8 weeks plus and did a pregnancy test 5-6 weeks ago then you need to prepare for the worst (with experience of people I know).

If however you did a test in the last couple of weeks and it's just LMP that says 8 weeks you may well have ovulated later and actually be 5 weeks. In which case all may be well.

Zara84 · 05/08/2019 15:58

Have gone back and checked and I got my first positive 4 weeks ago... so should
Be further than 5-6 weeks right. ? Thanks for all
Your responses ladies - I guess what will be will
Be and yes I am prepared for
The worse now.... just the next 10 days will be agonising

Well I guess if you tested 4 weeks ago and it was 14dpo at the time you would actually be exactly 6 weeks. I'd have thought at much over 6 weeks they would usually be able to see hb but it probably depends on the position at that point as it's so tiny.

Really sorry you are going through this, it's a horrible limbo that sadly too many friends of mine have experienced over the years SadThanks

All you can do is wait

Cookit · 05/08/2019 16:20

Well I guess if you tested 4 weeks ago and it was 14dpo at the time you would actually be exactly 6 weeks.
No that would be 8 weeks because 14 DPO is 4 weeks.

If you tested positive 4 weeks a go I’d think the earliest possible would be 7 and a half weeks since you can get a positive at 9 or 10 DPO. No earlier really.

Obviously sometimes scans are a bit out (my last one I measured over a week behind and had caught up by 10 weeks) but at 7.5 weeks or more there really should be a heartbeat.

Fingers crossed.

Teateaandmoretea · 05/08/2019 16:32

Oh yes sorry I obviously was wrong about the dates.

VapeVamp12 · 05/08/2019 16:36

It seems sometimes reassurance scans offer everything but reassurance. If you can, i'd really recommend waiting for your NHS scans.

Ginmonkey84 · 05/08/2019 17:15

Yes unfortunately if you tested positive 4 weeks ago you would be closer to the 7-8 wk mark. But if she’s saying 5-6 weeks there’s a huge difference between those weeks in terms of embryo size. Did she say what the fetal pole CRL was? I’m so sorry you going through this. I too had the same thing happen in June x

Zara84 · 05/08/2019 19:56

Hi she said 6mm CLR

Did you experience exact same and did it end in a m/c? Did you experience any bleeding or
Symptoms ?

OP posts:
Ginmonkey84 · 05/08/2019 21:12

Yes unfortunately mine did but my embryo didn’t grow at all from one scan to the next, it stopped around 6weeks and measured 4mm and my symptoms faded. I also had a MMC and had symptoms the whole way through so it’s hard to know. From your CRL you’d be around 6+2. My CRL in my current pregnancy was 7.8mm at 6+4 and 1.54cm at 7+6. So there is a discrepancy and quite a large gap in terms of your dates. It’s a hard one huni but if I’m to be completely honest I would prepare yourself for the worst but I hope you have a slow grower and things are good at your next scan. It has happened before but wouldn’t be the norm x

coffeeandgin26 · 05/08/2019 21:14

I did, and sadly it turned out to be a blighted ovum pregnancy which ended a week later. Fingers crossed it's good news for you but if you're sure of your dates, I would
Prepare for it not to be viable. The waiting stage is horrible so lots of hugs
