2nd trimester - SO thirsty!

Just as the title suggests really - has anyone had this? I'm drinking loads of water/squash throughout the day and night (which of course is leading to multiple trips to the loo) but I have waves of really really intense thirst a few times a day.. it goes with a few glasses of water.

I was expecting to be thirsty but not like this. Am 23+3... has anyone had this and it meant anything was wrong (thinking more me than baby ofc) or is it just another one to add to the list of shitty pregnancy symptoms?

It can be a sign of gestational diabetes so I'd suggest you talk to your midwife. X

Yes talk to your midwife. I also found I was thirsty all the time -and I don't have any health problems if they can reassure you - I bought big bottles of water from the supermarket as I also (out of the blue) didn't like the taste of our tap water. I'm in 3rd trimester now and it's not so much. Bear in mind it's roasting weather just now so ur likely to need more water anyway. Put a big bottle in ur car too xx

Ah thanks guys - I've got my next appointment a week tomorrow so I'll ask her then. Gestational Diabetes didn't cross my mind to be honest (none of the increased risk factors) but looking on the NHS website it could be that.

It only seems to have come on the last week or so, so I'll keep hydrated, hope it cools down and speak to the midwife!!

During pregnancy, the body does require a lot more water than pre-, so maybe measure how much you’re drinking. Thirst is usually the sign that you’re already dehydrated.

I think my midwife said I’d need 3-4litres during pregnancy, more if it’s hot and more still when I’m exercising.

That said, I do still feel like I can’t get enough in!! As in, physically!! 😂 And then of course there’s the permanent peeing...! 😱

That's it @devilishlygood it's that "can't get enough in" feeling.. then I finally do, then need a wee.. repeat cycle!
