Ideas for a small nursery

We have a very small second bedroom that we wish to decorate as a nursery. I also want to fit a single bed in there so when my mum visits she can sleep there....especially those first months while baby is in our room. Does anyone have ideas, or pics they could share?
I'm just not sure what is essential to have in a babys room.

How about a sofa/armchair bed instead of a full sized single one? That would save space, and be useful for night feeds, and pre-bed snuggles with a story.

Make sure any freestanding (as opposed to built in) furniture is attached to the wall to stop an older adventurous baby from pulling it over on themselves.

Rather than a changing table I would go for a chest of drawers with a changing mat on top as that'll be useful long term instead of only getting a year or 2 of action. Don't keep unnecessary gubbins that well-meaning people give you. You end up drowning in clutter that can feel very stressful crammed into a small nursery. Unless you really love it or it's from someone especially close to you quietly return baby gifts - there are only so many soft toys, copies of 'Dear Zoo' and newborn babygrows you actually need.

Hit Pinterest for inspiration on themes etc.

Make sure any mirror you have in there is baby safe.

Not a nursery design idea, but a general handy hint is to layer the cot mattress with a waterproof cover, a fitted sheet, another waterproof cover and another fitted sheet. That way any 'incidents' in the night can be quickly bundled up and the fresh bedding is all ready to go.

My DD’s room is 2.1m x 2.7m. We have this corner wardrobe link and it’s like a Tardis inside

I had a small nursery for my first. I just had a cot, baby swing and a chest of drawers. Used the wardrobe in my room for some baby stuff as well.
For my second I’m just having a cot and changing table in my bedroom until he/she is older and again using my wardrobe for storage.
