At this appointment will I get a scan or not till the 12 week scan? If not in thinking to get a private one done for my own peace of mind. What are peoples thoughts on this? First baby so not sure what to expect and the NHS page just says paperwork and blood tests.

At your 1st midwife appointment its just really her asking u alot of questions & she will tell u your due date. 1st scan is at 12wks, if u go for a early scan isnt much to see ,if u do book one make it once your over 7wks as there is no heartbeat until after this time. Congratulations on your pregnancy x

Not until the 12 week scan. The first appointment is just pretty much a question and answer. You'll need to book a private early reassurance scan.

Midwifes don't do scans so no you won't get one, also I've had three children and never had a scan until 20 weeks.
Your first visit is just usually to determine your due date, ask about any health conditions you might have and blood tests if needed .
Congratulations on the pregnancy.

You won’t get a scan at your first appointment. The midwife usually books it then so you might get told the date or you will get a letter in the post. It is just routine medical history and blood tests at this stage. It’s a very personal choice whether you want to get a private scan. Personally I chose not to as I knew that no matter what I saw before 12 weeks I would not stay reassured for long. Many people get reassurance and comfort but I’ve read far to many threads where someone has one and they can detect a heart beat as it’s too early so are recalled a few weeks later and are left in limbo during that time. I would say do your own research into them and make a choice as to what’s right for you

Thank you all. I've already had a letter through for my 12 week scan for September so I'm gonna get a private one done for when I'm 7 weeks as I had a miscarriage previously and going out my mind! Probably nothing to worry about but need my own peace of mind.
