Hey I'm a religious nail wearer they're normally this length and shape (grown out a touch atm) did anyone keep their acrylics with a newborn? Heard loads of opinions on this just wondering if anyone had kept their nails with no issues

Another religious nail wearer here (gel though and much shorter than yours. I go for a natural length with a squarer shape) and I would say you will struggle with those. Tiny poppers on clothes and I would be terrified of catching the baby with them whilst nappy changing, feeding, etc.

HalyardHitch · 02/08/2019 17:49

Pretty sure we had this exact thread about two weeks ago?

LucyAcue · 02/08/2019 17:52

@HalyardHitch I'm actually new here as I'm 12 weeks and thought I'd join for support as alone! It really helps reading through the posts and there is so many there was probably one definitely like this lol

@BeingATwatItsABingThing I think I'm gonna take your advice and go more natural even though it kills me lol 😣 would be terrible if I caught baby!! X

Try imagining changing a poo filled nappy with them on. One of those full on exploded up the back ones.

DragonMamma · 02/08/2019 17:53

Definitely not with a newborn. You need shorter, square nails.

Dealing with a squirmy baby and (really long!) stiletto nails are a disaster waiting to happen.

SoupDragon · 02/08/2019 17:57

Definitely not with a newborn

Or when they get to the stage where they flip over and you have to pin them down 😂

Or when they are a toddler and have a screaming, leg kicking tantrum.

Thinking about it, natural and non-scratchy might be the way to go until they are potty trained!

Bourbonbiccy · 02/08/2019 18:06

The first thing I thought was pooey Nail.
I used to have long nails ( not like yours, they are a triumph 🏅🏅)I kept mine for a few weeks but they just became Impractical, so I trimmed them right down.

There is no harm in keeping them and seeing how you go, but ultimately I think you should really enjoy them through your pregnancy as they may disappear for a while after babies here

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 02/08/2019 18:29

Oh yeah! You’ll definitely have poo under those. Grin Children are a joy!

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 02/08/2019 18:50

Yeah within a couple of weeks of baby arriving you'll realise you'll never have long nails again! Constant washing up not to mention being covered in sick pooh wee etc not to mention they really aren't practical around new born skin

Whisky2014 · 02/08/2019 18:51

Sorry but they are so horrible. No way would they be easy with a new born. Jesus.

Lllot5 · 02/08/2019 18:54

Bit impractical I would’ve thought. Although I only had short nails when mine were babies and I still managed to get poo under them and eat it. 🙄

CustardCreamLover · 02/08/2019 19:11

I didn't have very long nails when my baby was born but within a day I had to get my husband to bring me scissors and a nailfile and I cut them right down so there was nothing there basically. Newborn skin is so, so delicate I would have been destroyed if I'd hurt him in any way!

Think of losing the nails as getting used to giving up a lot for your new baby!

Lucccc · 02/08/2019 19:13

Alrightyyy to the mums having a laugh-thank you it's what I've needed right now! Definitely don't want poo up my nails 😂

2-to the people that are just being a bit Judgy it was a conversation starter I had a laugh with my pals about it earlier and I just wondered if anyone has actually done it lol, no biggie 🤷‍♀️😊

3- @Whisky2014 good job they're not your nails then babe x

Teddybear45 · 02/08/2019 19:14

You probably should stay away from acrylic and gel nails until the baby is 3-5 years old. They can often prompt allergic reactions - I get hives when my sister so much as touches me with them!

Longqueue · 02/08/2019 19:16

I’m not even sure you’d be able to pick your newborn up very easily with those, let along dress it, change nappies, latch on...

Plus you won’t have time for a while. And will ideally need natural nails for delivery

Sleepyquest · 02/08/2019 19:17

I'm jacking mine in to save money and also I don't think they will be very hygienic (I'm thinking poo and sick in them) Grin

OhJustElfOff · 02/08/2019 19:19

Please consider how you will be monitored in hospital if your birth doesn't go to plan - impossible to get SATS readings through coloured and acrylic nails And poo nails aren't too pleasant

Ginger1982 · 02/08/2019 19:20

Sorry but they are completely impractical with a newborn!

guest2013 · 02/08/2019 19:21

I never gave mine a second thought, if you're used to them you'll be fine. As for the PP saying you'll realise you'll never have long nails again,- ha! You're doing something wrong! 3 kids and mine have never been off!

Whisky2014 · 02/08/2019 19:22

@Lucccc why have you name changed?

Yes it is a good job. I have common sense you see? I have no idea why anyone would think nails like that are practical for having a baby.
I think you're going to have a bit of a shock when the baby comes. Hope you're prepared!

guest2013 · 02/08/2019 19:24

Whisky, have a word! Some of us mothers even wear make up Shock

ShirleyPhallus · 02/08/2019 19:27

Grown out a touch?! They look hideous!

Lucccc · 02/08/2019 19:28

@Whisky2014 because I felt like a name change?

At what point did I say nails like this were practical? Please, show me where?
I was wondering if any mums here did have nails like it. Yes I'll miss my nails? So what?
And 100% agree with you I'm going to have a massive shock as so far my life has been all about me, I'm alone, pregnant and I'm trying to get a grip on reality. I joined this forum because my midwife told me its good to find other people and even distract yourself. You have no right to judge me over a question

Lucccc · 02/08/2019 19:29

@ShirleyPhallus I've been working overtime, everyday Shirley so unfortunately I haven't had the time to go to the salon! Xx
