Constant bad taste

I'm 19+2 weeks and for what feels like the entire pregnancy so far, I've had this bad taste in my mouth constantly, I'm brushing my teeth 20 times a day and it's always there. I can't describe it but it's horrible, not metallic though like you hear about. It's making me paranoid that I have bad breath too. Anyone else had this?

Yup. Manky old dead stuff sort of flavour. I definitely feel like I’ve got permanent awful breath. And chewing gum or mints just makes me burpy or nauseous. I just stand back when people are talking to me now! 😂

I think it is partly dehydration...we should always be drinking more than we do, I know I’m guilty of only just about hitting pre-pregnancy water intake.

Ibizababyy · 30/07/2019 19:23

I have this!! It contributes to the nausea too. I’ve found some relief in the past couple of days with tictacs as they are so small they don’t seem to aggravate the nausea. I have the added pleasure of my wisdom tooth growing in at the wrong angle and eroding a hole in the back of my mouth- having to wait until 12 weeks for it removed, so I’m constantly paranoid that the taste/ smell is also related to that! I think mainly it is not drinking enough though, despite trying my best.

I've got it to - like the after-taste of some sweeteners. I hate it but whatever i do it comes right back after a few minutes. It's making me very unsociable as I keep thinkng I must have bad breath too.

Thanks ladies, I'm glad it's not just me. It's like that awful taste you have when you wake up in the morning, but it's all the time. It comes back quickly after brushing your teeth, it's so annoying. I'll have to get some tic tacs.
Ibizababyy that sounds painful!

Yes it’s not the most pleasant I have to say! Dreading the extraction though! Tesco have tictacs in giant boxes for £1.80

Satsumas - have one after eating and it makes a massive difference

LHMB · 30/07/2019 20:36

Thanks Ibizababyy I'll definitely get some. I don't blame you, I had a tooth out just over a year ago, not nice!
Thanks TheChineseChicken, I'll try that too

I had this in first pregnancy. Best thing for me was sherbet lollies. Think that's what you call them.

I felt so sick a while ago I thought I was pregnant and got lovehearts, I thought well they're made of the same stuff just smaller. They worked great. I wasn't pregnant though, turns out I was fighting off chickenpox virus.

Found out I am pregnant again a couple of days ago. Send DH to shop for lovehearts but he couldn't find them. Will be picking some up ASAP. Think if I end up needing them I will be able to eat them at work quite discreetly too.

ShirleyPhallus · 30/07/2019 20:51

I had this! It tasted like I had tonsil stones, but would even be there when I was eating

It seems to have gone a bit now though

MrsEG · 31/07/2019 06:14

Yes I have this constantly and for me it gets worse as the day goes on. Like a very sour taste in your mouth?
Things working for me - polos, citrus fruits (oranges, slices of lemon or lime in water), and only eating cold food - anything cooked/warm seems to make it worse so I’m having lots of sandwiches or cooking a load of pasta and letting it cool so I have it cold in the evenings. Good luck I hope it stops for you soon!

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 31/07/2019 06:39

I had this in both pregnancies. In the second I worked out that (in my case anyway) it was actually acid reflux and so Tums etc kept it at bay best!

Both times it did disappear of its own accord around 24 weeks. My mum had the same thing in her second pregnancy though and it lasted til delivery!

LiveFatsDieYoGnu · 31/07/2019 08:41

I have this too. I do find chewing gum helps, I’ve been getting through packs and packs! I never normally chew gum at all so it’s weird for me but soooo much better than the constant ‘something crawled into my mouth and died’ taste.

LHMB · 31/07/2019 09:37

Thanks everyone, LiveFatsDieYoGnu that describes it perfectly lol.
I'll try out everyone's suggestions x

Another one struggling with this. Constantly sucking mints or brushing my teeth.

LHMB · 02/08/2019 10:12
