So it's my birthday soon and I really want to get an early pregnancy scan (1 because i'm impatient and can't wait until 12 weeks and 2 I can't quite believe I'm pregnant until I see it!)

Has anyone else had one and what was your thoughts? Was it worth the money (£70 for me) or should I wait until my 12 week scan? I'll be 7 - 8 weeks when I go for it.

Well worth it for me! Any chance to see the baby is worth the money to me. All the best with your pregnancy x

We plan to get one at 7-8 weeks. Any chance to take a peek! You should be able to see a bean and a heartbeat so we think it’s worth it - google Ultrasound at 7/8 weeks to see what you could potentially see :)

Tashy777 · 30/07/2019 15:15

@gkeal3 thank you! I think I'll definitely get one Smile x

I had a scan at 6+5, it was a massive relief to see a tiny flickering heartbeat. I would totally recommend if you can afford to do it.

Worth it for me! Soothed my anxiety a lot and found out I was a week further along than I thought I was

I found a voucher for mine on groupon so keep an eye out on there for bargains

Lauraloop1516 · 30/07/2019 16:11

It gave me peace of mind. I had a hen party at 11 weeks and knew my friends would work out why I wasn't drinking - as I'd seen a healthy heartbeat I felt able to just tell them the truth rather than concocting a story!

mommato3 · 30/07/2019 16:12

I have one on Thursday. I'll be 7+5. I also got a voucher from groupon. Shop around. You can occasionally get some offers. Good luck xx

Tashy777 · 30/07/2019 16:16

I'll have a look on Groupon see if I can get it cheaper! Been looking on Youtube at videos of early baby scans and the best ones seem to be between 8/9weeks pregnant as their little arms and legs are just forming as stumps.. i nearly cried watching someone elses haha! Let me know how you all get on at your early scans & congratulations! xx

I didn't think I'd have one, but once I actually got my BFP it felt so unreal I don't think I fully believed it until I saw it's flickering heartbeat. If i'd have waited until 12 weeks I think I'd have been a quivering wreck at that appointment! Instead I felt pretty calm once I'd seen it's heartbeat, and just a couple of jitters the day of the 12 week scan. Tl;dr if you're a bit anxious and can afford it, I'd go for it.

DaniX91 · 30/07/2019 16:31

I would definitely recommended it! I'm 7+2 today and we've had 2 scans so far due to suspected eptopic. The first was 2 weeks ago but all we could see was a gestinational sac and a yolk sac with it being so early, so we went back this morning and saw a little baby with a strong heartbeat flickering away 😊.
It gives you peace of mind and has personally made it feel more real. I came home and immediately booked a private one for 3 weeks today, couldn't help myself 🙈.

I’m debating one.. mostly as I feel so poorly, the thought of anything not being right & living through this hell would be just awful! Plus, it’s something to look forward too when feeling so rubbish!

You can get them locally for about £45 here so def shop around. £70 seems high for a 2D scan, I paid that for 4D one last pregnancy..

Sparkle0109 · 30/07/2019 20:18

Couldnt recommend an early scan more if I wanted especially if you are anxious. I am 11 + 5 and have had 3 scans so far. One at 7+3, 9+3 and 10+6 and they instantly calmed me down. Seeing that little heartbeat brings so much happiness.

Go ahead and treat yourself for your birthday- it will be worth every penny

motherofcats81 · 30/07/2019 22:25

Just to put the other side of it here - I was strongly advised against this by doctors in my family because there is a chance they won't be able to pick up a heartbeat at that early stage and you won't know if that's because there is a problem or not. I really wanted one because I was extremely anxious but they asked me this - how would I feel if they didn't detect a heartbeat and I had to wait 4 or 5 weeks for my 12 week scan not knowing if there was an issue or not? I decided not to on that basis, not saying you should or shouldn't but just something to weigh up!

ELM8 · 30/07/2019 22:45

Despite the nausea / sore boobs etc I couldn't quite believe there was a baby in there so ended up going for a scan at about 9 weeks. Well worth the cost and made it so much more real! Good luck Smile

Russell19 · 30/07/2019 22:47

I went at 7 weeks and cried my eyes out when I saw the heartbeat. Loved it xx

Tashy777 · 31/07/2019 07:00

It’s the same for me I almost don’t believe it still! I’ve done 6 tests just to be on the safe side and they’re all positive. Had sore boobs for 3 weeks (I’m only about 4 weeks) been feeling nauseous and had really bad constipation! I think I’m gonna book one for between 8/9 weeks 😍

Yes and once you reach 8/9 weeks it means the fetus has a greater chance of being ok if looks good in the scan. So was really nice for me to see.

It might be a bit early though and you might need internal scan.

Also it's still not a cert as things can still happen around 12 weeks and my dates completely changed again as did the development so maybe only tell a few still!
