Still Bleeding... now 8 weeks

I have light bleeding, not enough to fill any pads, but just watery pink/red blood on tissue each time I go to the toilet (tmi sorry!). This lasted roughly 2 weeks. Doctors didn't seem to concerned.

Last week Wednesday the bleeding stopped, my boobs aren't as sore as sensitive but still a little sore. I still have a bit of nausea but not as bad, and still can't go near any coffee or tea / fizzy juice / chocolate / crisps which started at round week 5 of pregnancy. This morning, the bleeding started again. It's almost an orangey red colour, again, not enough to fill a pad, only when I go to the toilet and wipe.

I'm really frustrated waiting, just looking for some positive vibes, but also honesty if anyone has a similar experience and it was a bad outcome. I have booked a private early scan for next Thursday, when I'll be 9 weeks 5 days.

You might have a hematoma. (Collection of blood around the womb! It's like a bruise they say.
I bled from week 8-20 unfortunately I ended up giving birth at 21 weeks BUT they said it was unrelated to the hematoma. I had placenta issues. However if you are bleeding a lot it can irritate the waters and cause premature labour.

I think at 8 weeks and you've been bleeding for two weeks... it's probably early pregnancy bleeding or a missed miscarriage. Your scan will tell you.

I'm just trying to be really blunt and honest and I REALLY HOPE it's your body adjusting and it goes away.

Also have the doctors checked for a water infection? It can cause this.

nicannie · 29/07/2019 12:05

Thanks for your response @etotheb. I did read about that somewhere. Did you bleed consecutively from 8-20 weeks? So far my bleeding was say from 4-6 weeks then one week of no blood at all and then it started again today at 8 weeks.

Were you just bleeding when you wiped and seen it or actually bleeding enough to wear a pad? Sorry if that's TMI, just trying to weigh things up as you can imagine I'm over analysing everything!

Yes, I'm looking forward to the early private scan so I know, but I'm definitely not feeling very positive or getting my hopes up at this point, I'm preparing for the worst.

Doctors haven't even been interested in seeing me, just speaking to me on the phone and telling me to 'wait'.

I have a history of recurrent miscarriage so went straight to EPU with very light pink spotting last week.

After an internal they diagnosed a cervical ectropion, which can apparently cause this sort of bleeding. Can you push for an EPU referral?

nicannie · 29/07/2019 16:00

@LividLaughLove I tried that already, phoned them a week or so ago and they told me it was 'emergency only' and what I described wasn't an emergency 😞

OP posts:
LividLaughLove · 29/07/2019 16:04

That's utter shit. I'm so sorry you've not had better treatment.

Can you search for other EPUs in your area?

The one I went to is not actually closest to me but (I sadly know from experience) offers 24/7 service with no GP referral necessary.

If you HAVE got an ectropion like me, it would explain the bleeding and apparently doesn't cause harm to the baby. Good luck and I hope you get answers soon.

I had 2 losses and then 3rd pregnancy bleeding bright red with clots from 7-17 weeks had a healthy baby girl at 40+4 I had a subchronic hemorrhage attached to sac but baby was fine. It could go either way x

devilishlygood · 29/07/2019 16:10

Hi OP. Good news story here!!

I had a monumental bleed at 7+3, I honestly thought an entire period had fallen out of me in 30mins. In front of all my colleagues at work. Worst. Day. Of. My. Life.

Three days later I was able to be scanned (TV), and thinking the worst, my world was turned upside down for the second time when a strong heartbeat was detected!

About 2-3days after the scan, I noticed pinkish bleeding when I wiped. In a panic I called EPU and they told me they wouldn’t scan for a second time in a week, and that there was nothing to be done at 8w anyway, so to ride it out! Very reassuring!

I continued to spot like this until about 16-17w, maybe later. Sometimes heavy enough that I needed a liner, and some days virtually nothing at all. I was a WRECK. I eventually went back to the GP and had my HCG levels done and they were comfortably in the range. And I toyed with private scans, but eventually was reassured enough by my MW.

I had persistent nausea throughout that episode. That’s a good sign of a strong pregnancy. Vomiting even better, apparently!! 😂

I’m 26w and I’m feeling baby boy boot the SHIT out of me every few hours, a reminder to not panic. The sickness stopped around 17w, and one day there was no blood...which turned into 2 days etc etc. I barely remember the torment, and how terribly isolating it felt.

Good luck, stay confident! ❤️

nicannie · 29/07/2019 16:56

@LividLaughLove I agree it's shit! I came home from work early as just can't concentrate being there, bleeding each time I visit the toilet along with everything that's on my mind. There actually is another EPU that I can call maybe 30 mins away.. think it's maybe a bigger one and open longer hours - I can try call there tomorrow if I wake up and still bleeding maybe ?

Thanks @xJune88 and sorry to hear about your losses. Hopefully I can get a positive story out of it, like I said earlier, I am prepping for worst !

@devilishlygood so glad to hear everything has worked out for you!! Congrats!!

I really hope what I'm experiencing is something similar to your... I guess when I have my private scan next Thursday I will just have to update on the good or bad news. I'll be 9w+5 at the scan, so should be able to detect heart beat and know what's going on so far, right?

OP posts:
devilishlygood · 29/07/2019 17:25

Yes, you would ordinarily detect a heartbeat at about 8-9w, so you will get your answer then.

It’s so tough, and if I’m honest, once you’ve had a bit of drama like this, it really is quite hard to properly relax full stop.

I know I’m just about past viability, and I’m not totally stressed or nervous twitching, but I can definitely empathise with those ‘just clinging on’ feelings...

All the best to you lovely xx

devilishlygood · 29/07/2019 17:26

*although, I should add, I have been given absolutely no decent clue as to why I haemorrhaged, nor why I had the spotting...a little frustrating at the time, but I couldn’t give a shit now!! 😊😬

EAIOU · 29/07/2019 17:59

I had a bleed for couple of days (all fresh blood)when I was around 7/8 weeks. Cant remember exactly.

Shes now rolling about the house!

Can be very scary but health team here got me seen a couple of days later and it was fine. I'm sorry you're going through this. would you consider a private reassurance scan in your area?

EAIOU · 29/07/2019 17:59

Sorry I see you have one booked. Good luck!!

nicannie · 29/07/2019 18:15

Thanks everyone. The bleeding seems to have slowly dried up again as the day has went on, I was extremely tired so had a good 2 hour nap earlier - I never napped before pregnancy lol. I can only hope that because my avoidance for certain foods and smells, as well as the nausea (never had any sickness with it yet) is still there it's a good sign. Will wait and see what happens... sit back and go with it !

OP posts:
Kinsters · 30/07/2019 02:51

I had this, I bled from 6 weeks to 12 weeks, just a small amount when wiping, and everything seems fine so far (I'm now 18 weeks).

nicannie · 30/07/2019 08:39

@Kinsters did you bleed consecutively between those weeks? Mines is only when I wipe as well, never enough for wearing a pad etc. 🤞🏽

OP posts:
nicannie · 09/08/2019 09:55

For anyone reading this, I've had a positive outcome so far. Bleeding is still very much on and off. Had a private scan yday, I'm measuring a week behind where I was calculated to be by my midwife. So 8+4 at time of this scan. (Photo attached) and only thing they could see why the bleeding was happening was I have a cyst in my cervix which is no cause for concern and also some erosion in my cervix, again, she said nothing to worry about 😃 just thought I'd post an update in case anyone searches and reads this!

@nicannie so pleased to see it's good news for you! I'm only about 4+5 and experiencing brown discharge when I wipe with some stringy parts (sorry tmi). I've had 2 MCs and I'm terrified! Did you have any spotting early on?

nicannie · 15/08/2019 11:18

@BabyPending I'm sorry to hear that you have had 2 miscarriages 😔 my spotting / bleeding started around 4-5 weeks and hasn't stopped since basically. I'm now 10 weeks and it's still happening. It was orange at one point, it has been pale pink, it has been brown, it has been bright red, even had it more stringy like you are describing and also had clots! A bigger one once yesterday. I'm learning to just try not to worry about it as I knew there was blood waiting to come out from my cervix that the scan showed. Fingers crossed at my next scan in less than 2 weeks things are still progressing well! I hope you also find out your bleeding is something similar and isn't effecting the pregnancy

OP posts:
BabyPending · 15/08/2019 12:05

@nicannie thank you for sharing! I'm crossing absolute everything mine is for a similar reason to you. Waiting for blood results and going to request an early scan for next week if I'm still hanging in there! Xx

nicannie · 15/08/2019 12:21

No problem at all. Fingers crossed for you as well. If you haven't been in a lot of pain and you haven't been bleeding enough to fill pads I hear (might be wrong) that that's a positive so just remember try not to worry. They might not scan you that early on. I don't believe they can even internally scan you before 6 weeks but again, I'm unsure. I waited 8 weeks for a private ultrasound as the hospital kept refusing to see me for early scan!

OP posts:
BabyPending · 15/08/2019 12:39

@nicannie thank you hun! Due to having 2 MCs preciously and consecutively, the EPU said to get referred when I fall pregnant again so I'm hopi they do see me! Otherwise I'm going to make myself ill from all this worrying lol! I hope your next scan goes well xx

June340oo · 15/08/2019 20:36

I’m currently 14 weeks + 5 days pregnant after a round of IVF. I had bleeding from 5 weeks it started off as brown and progressed to red and pink and every colour in between. I had to have 3 early scans at my local EPU due the bleeding and found out I had a sub-chorionic bleed underneath the babies sac, at roughly 9.5 weeks I had a massive gush of bright red blood while I was at work and I went to A&E due to the fact I was bleeding through a pad every half an hour, they couldn’t do much for me just checked my HCG levels and also did a cervix exam to see if my cervix was closed. After that big bleed I’ve had brown blood every day which finally stopped around 13 weeks and I haven’t bled for almost 2 weeks now which I hope is a sign the bleed has been re-absorbed. It was such a scary time and I felt for sure I’d lost my little boy several times, but thankfully not. My midwife said any bleeding during pregnancy isn’t normal however lots of women do get bleeding that doesn’t mean it will end in miscarriage. Hope all continues well for you OP x

BabyPending · 15/08/2019 20:47

@June340oo thank you for sharing your story. I am so sorry you had all that stress, how awful! But I'm so pleased it seems all sorted for you now, wishing you the best for the rest of your pregnancy.

My brown spotting has subsided a little today but I'm still running to the loo every 5 mins to knicker check 🙈 we will never be calm will we!! Xx
