Bump Size

It's unbelievable the amount of people who look at me and are surprised I still have 11 weeks left. I was in the chemist yesterday and this sweet old lady asked me how long I had left. When I told her baby was due in October her eyes popped out of her head and she whispered to me "ohh your quite big aren't you? I thought you were going to say really soon" (Luckily I'm not easily offended lol). She isn't the only person who thinks this either. If people don't actually say it I can see that they are surprised I still have 3 months left. My measurements at check ups seem pretty in line with the average (26.4 weeks was 25.5cm and 28.4 weeks was 29cm). Does anyone else get this? I'm starting to get a little paranoid haha.

From Mumma Big Bump (it seems) 😂

Yeah same! I'm due in October too but when I tell people that they look horrified and says I look "ready to pop!". I did tell my mw at my last appt and she laughed quite heartily and assured me I am not enormous (bump measuring bang on) and to ignore anyone without medical qualifications! I think my bump looks big because while I'm not really short, I do have a short torso so there's not much room. Also this is my second pregnancy so I popped much sooner and it probably feels as though I should be further along as I've had a bump for so long iyswim? Anyway, 28 weeks now - roll on October!

Lexyness · 26/07/2019 10:44

I have a mixture of people telling me I’m tiny and others saying I’m big! I’ve never been measured because I have growth scans (x3 small babies already, combined with high blood pressure giving me risk factors for another tiny baby!) HOWEVER I have affectionately named this baby hippo of late 🤣 I have literally never been this big whilst pregnant! I’m 37+3 now and being induced in 8 days anyway, but for weeks I’ve had people telling me I look ready to pop and they can’t believe I’m still pregnant blah blah blah! And also according to random people I know (not ‘friends’ as such just people I see occasionally in passing) this has been the longest pregnancy ever 🤷🏼‍♀️ Wtf? I can’t believe people actually dare to say this to heavily pregnant, hormonal women! Oh well at least I won’t have to deal with it for too much longer lol!

KWordy · 26/07/2019 10:44

@KatnissK this is my third (i did have fairly big bumps with them too) but actually
I have a longer torso so can't use that theory for myself haha. Yes roll on October. It's been flying by so far. Bubbas will be here before we know it 🤗

@Lexyness I know!! It baffles me that people actually say some of these things out loud! Like I said it doesn't really offend me but it does get a bit tiresome people telling you how "big" you are and that you "look ready to pop". Good luck with everything. Only 8 days to go, how exciting 😀

Exactly the same here. I hear ya...

EmilyDeservedBetter · 26/07/2019 11:06

I had this throughout my whole pregnancy. I was measuring big, but midwife said it was all fine. Then I had DD and she weighed 11lb and now people don’t believe she is only 4 weeks old - so the annoying comments have carried on. Being pregnant always warrants unwanted opinion try and just smile and nod.

Side note - I did not take my own advice and became somewhat of a recluse at the end of my pregnancy Grin

Frizzy1986 · 26/07/2019 13:13

I'm due in October too and everyone is always saying how big I look. I thought I looked quite big too, but ended up having a growth scan as I was measuring 2 weeks behind.
Turns out baby is measuring bang on target so mixed size ideas across the board.

Fortheloveofscience · 26/07/2019 15:02

People have no idea what they’re talking about. At 32w most people who comment say they think I look tiny, my measurements put me above the 95th percentile for bump size.

DeadDoorpost · 26/07/2019 15:05

I've got the opposite and because I can also breathe my bump in they get even more shocked. I've got 6 weeks to go and on Sunday someone said to me "you finally look pregnant". This is my 2nd child.

MyCatDrinksFlatWhites · 26/07/2019 16:34

I'm due in January with DC2. Had a bump for a few weeks now. Saw GP last week who asked if I'd had a scan (15 weeks) and whether there was only one in there.Hmm

Everafter1 · 26/07/2019 16:41

I get this and I'm only half way there! I'm sick of the happy look on their faces being replaced with shock when I tell my due date 😂 the stretchy band on the side of my maternity jeans has started to split lol this bump is giant!

Em39ma · 26/07/2019 19:55

I’m due in October too and my bump measures 36cm.
Everyone looks at me like, you are sure there’s not 2 in there.
I had a gtt on Monday, came back normal so no diabetes. I have a little extra water, but the sonographer said not enough to be concerned about.
My mum was just like me, I think some of us just show better than others.

devilishlygood · 26/07/2019 20:16

Yep, same here! Due early Nov and I’m probably about the and size as the other pg girl in my office who is due end of Aug. Normal BMI (24.3 or thereabouts at booking in, probably about 45 or so now! 😂) and no concerns medically.

‘Are you sure it’s only one, titter titter!’ And ‘my goodness, that’s a biggun!’

I just don’t get too funny about it because I think some of these plonkers haven’t been anywhere near a pregnant woman in their lives (my childless UNCLE told me the third trimester is the easiest! 🙄), and I assume it’s a way to say ‘what a healthy pregnancy you must be having’.

4storytoy · 26/07/2019 20:19

Someone said to me “I hope you’re due soon?” when I was 21 weeks Confused

ELJ1502 · 26/07/2019 20:28

I'm only 19 weeks and already have a largely noticeable bump with my first. My MIL keeps reminding me how amazing she looked at this point in her pregnancy. She was married at 6 months pregnant and you could barely tell. I'm not sure whether she's actually clueless and doesn't realise she's basically telling me I don't look amazing and look huge or she's just being horrible.

Napqueen1234 · 26/07/2019 20:37

It’s so hard isn’t it- easy to say don’t take offence but when you’re hormonal and already feel like a whale people making those comments can be really hurtful! Along with the implication that there’s something wrong or huge about your baby. My MIL often made comments about bump size and any baby born over 8lb she makes a huge deal about them being a ‘whopper’ Hmm some people are just annoying

MyCatDrinksFlatWhites · 27/07/2019 09:30

Last time, my MIL made a point of telling me at 20 weeks that I was bigger than she'd been at full term and that she never needed maternity clothes.Hmm

I may have pointed out that we have different builds...

LittleAndOften · 27/07/2019 09:35

You have all my sympathy. I'm 25 weeks with ds2. My body seems to have gone "oh she's pg, let's inflate like a balloon". I cried when DH called me 'big momma' the other day and when my dad described me as 'heavily pregnant'. I'm due in early November 😭😭

Angelinthenightx · 27/07/2019 12:16

Im due oct im now 25wks & ive had some rude comments, i dont think my bump is that big but had people say oh your going to have a big boy(im having a girl & i have small babies) i try not to let it bother me, enjoy your big bump i like having a bump so to all u mums to be with nice big bumps enjoy them while u can,bet u all look amazing x

Figuringitout · 27/07/2019 16:04

I had this today (for the first time) a woman was very surprised when I told her I still had 9 weeks to go. She then followed it up with, ‘but is it all baby or were you big before?’ Some people are just rude!!

Lisalou88 · 27/07/2019 18:00

I’ve had the exact same, I’m 29 weeks and I had someone today in work Who couldn’t believe I had 11 weeks to go & thought I was due soon. I had a midwife appointment last week and measured spot on 28 weeks so I really don’t think I’m that big.

KWordy · 27/07/2019 21:27

Well I'm glad it's not just me then. It seems there are a fair few of us who are big, round and proud 😊. I love my bump and I'm gong to enjoy every growing centimetre of it until bubba is here as I know I will miss it when it's gone! Good luck to all you gorgeous blooming mums to be out there. X

I had this, actually work with midwives who have gone into teaching. One started to interrogate me about what I had been eating etc etc and that my bump had suddenly got huge. Suspected I had GD. I shit myself, I have a complex history (which she didn't know about) and ended up straight on the phone to the hospital. Nothing wrong, everything completely normal. People should mind their own.

greyby25 · 27/07/2019 21:36

I'm 30 weeks with twins, people are constantly asking me how long I have left, if due date is soon and how low my bump is. I know I'm being sensitive but I just feel like telling them to eff off stranger, who doesn't need to know my due date for ANY reason, especially when it's still 7 weeks away Blush I know I'm big, thanks for pointing it out Grin

WBWIFE · 27/07/2019 23:15

I measured 47 weeks at 38 weeks pregnant
