Pre-Eclampsia??

I am 38+4 weeks pregnant and when I went for my last routine antenatal midwife appointment yesterday, my blood pressure was 150/80. I don't think that is particularly high, as the bottom number has to be around 90 to be considered high, but there was also trace protein in my urine.

They asked me to go back again today, and my BP was 138/84 and still trace protein in my urine. The midwife has asked me to go back again tomorrow to be monitored again.

When I had my DD 18 months ago, she was really light (4lb 15ozs) even though she was full term plus 3 days and my consultant thinks that I had undetected pre-eclampsia last time and thats why she was small.

So, I am booked in for a C-Section next Tuesday and have a pre-op discussion on Friday.

Do you think they will deliver the baby before next Tuesday or will they just hang on until then? Apparently the baby's head is engaged in the pelvis now, and if I go into labour early I just phone and tell them I have a Section booked and they do it straight away.

Just wondering how long they will leave me before making a decision about delivery.

Anyone had a similar experience?

With blood pressure a lot depends on what your normal level is...
So if BP ususall 120/60 then 150/80 is high

If normally 140/70 then less so.

Sounds like you are in for daily monitoring from now until baby arrives - if PE symptoms worsen they will probably scan to check the state of the placenta & bring you forward on if really necessary.

Try to relax though - they have found it a& are monitoring - you are in very safe hands - they will just hold off delivering your baby whilst it is better off where it is. Any signs of problems & they will act.

Thanks Mumzarello. I guess they are concerned about protein as I had a urine infection about 10 days ago which resulted in my being kept in hospital overnight on an IV drip!

I have been having regular scans from 28 until 36 weeks to monitor the baby's growth and the placenta has been anterior up until now, which I think is normal.

Like you say, at least they are keeping a close eye on me. Just quite scared about the CS as last time I was asleep for the whole op as they needed to get DD out immediately, but this time I will be awake. Still at least this time they know my history and should be able to deal with any difficulties.

Thanks again.

Is good you are under such close care, I'm sure they will take good care of you

I had severe Pre-eclampsia - induced asap. The consultant could clearly see deterioration in the placenta on the scan. So hopefully this is something they will keep an eye on.

Make sure you ask questions when you go in - write them down if you are like me & forget everything when faced with someone in a white coat!!
