I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
It has been suggested that I add some practical tooth cleaning advice: a lot of sufferers find using a child's small toothbrush and strawberry toothpaste far less nauseating.
On my image of a pink castle: that is an image I use because when I was little, my family had a Snakes and Ladders board with an image on the last square of a pink castle in the clouds. As Hyperemesis is so like a grotesque version of Snakes and Ladders - eat a meal, go up a ladder, first thing in the morning bile run, down a snake - I have used the image of that pink castle on the last square of that Snakes and Ladders board as a metaphor for the happy end of Hyperemesis.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Taking your meds wrong?! How wrong can you take them if they won’t stay down?! Grr. I wish hospitals would take HG more seriously. It’s infuriating. I was lucky to get the same very sympathetic nurse & doctor on two of my admissions but also got the drug nurse basically rolling her eyes and telling me it’d probably last all pregnancy and to find ‘coping strategies’ rather than ‘all these meds’ 🙄 .. yep, cheers, that’s what I want to hear at 8 weeks! Jog along..!

It’s utterly soul destroying. It zaps the life out of you. I’m now mainly contending with severe nausea and that alone is frankly awful. If I was still not keeping anything down, I think I’d go insane. I’m at the limits of my coping strategies as it is but I’m just willing time away to 20 weeks & praying this pregnancy will follow my first & I’ll feel more human by then.

Sending love, really hope they’ll sympathetic and more helpful!

Snipples · 15/09/2019 08:11

Good luck @DeadDoorpost sounds like things could be kicking off soon for you!

@abbs1 it does def sound like you need to go back in love. Sounds like you're really really weak. You must feel horrendous.

I've not had a great weekend tbh. And DH flits from being really supportive and helpful to quite resentful over having to do more with our DD. He's said some quite spiteful things to me basically about how I'm not looking after her properly - I suppose I haven't been tbh but in my defense I asked him to help me as I was really struggling and yet he's still using this as an example of how it wasn't enough. It's really upset me tbh and made me realize that he just doesn't get it at all.

Anyways just clinging on til hospital on Tuesday.

Hello all. I was on the thread previously but have name changed.

I'm now 23 weeks. Not vomiting every day, but still chronic nausea, lots of food aversions and acid always coming back up. Medication hasn't helped the constant reflux.

I'm booked in for a c section at 38 weeks but I am struggling to imagine getting through another 15 weeks of this. It seems so far away. I am so sick of eating crap food.

It's triggered my anxiety and ocd, which I had in my last pregnancy too.

I hope everyone else is having a better day than me!

bringonchristmas · 15/09/2019 13:32

@Snipples I'm really sorry to hear that about your dh. It's horrible to be feeling so poorly and be told you're not trying hard enough, when you're giving everything you've got.

My dh hasn't complained about me not doing enough but he has complained about his work load increasing. And now just seems to have given up doing much extra around the house. Which infuriates me. I would love to be going to work, feeling normal, eating, doing housework. The house is a mess and I want to point out all the time how much I actually do around the place given it never normally looks like this!

Snipples · 15/09/2019 14:14

@bringonchristmas oh bless you. It does feel like the end is never coming doesn't it. I hope the next 15 weeks go quickly for you.

DH is not normally such a dick, I can only assume he was tired but I still felt it was out of order. Bloody men!

LucindaE · 15/09/2019 16:38

abbs1 Poor you. I so agree with bol, you sound as if you need other meds and rehydrating. Do you have dry skin, mouth, scanty dark urine, headache, blurred vision etc? As everyone on here comments, they are better indications of dehydration than ketones, but if you do have kesostix and they show ketones, they do take them serously in A and E. It is worrying about baby, but so long as you manage to keep from being dehydrated for too long, they are usually fine. In fact, 9 pounders are quite common on here! I am glad you have got an advocate. Really get her to express her dismay. On that, as bol says, for some reason they do seem to take OH's concerns more seriously, which I find provoking, as it isn't 1962. Wink But medics can be condescending, I am sorry to say, with that talk about 'not taking meds properly.'
Snipples and bringonchristmas 'Bloody men' indeed! The OH's of sufferers on here often do seem to swing from concerned and nurturing to insensitive and 'pull yourself together'-ish.
bringonchristmas Welcome back. I am glad that the vomiting is under control, but sorry to hear about the nausea.
bol I am so glad that things are generally better on a combination of drugs, though sorry that symptoms continue. Good advice as ever.

Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

I’m so sorry so many of you are struggling at the moment. My sickness has got a little uncontrollable. I have a bowl near my bed and the sofa just in case. Cyclizine didn’t really work for me. I’m off to the doctors tomorrow. I just wonder if anyone has advice on what to ask for. My tummy is burning with acid all the time so I’m wondering if an antacid like Zantac might help. I’ve been having Gaviscon but even that is making me sick. I’m still only sick a few times a day but my stomach is so sore and I’m exhausted the rest of the time. I want to explore the milder medicine options.

I’m so scared of losing this baby after our first pregnancy ended in mmc despite having HG and being told less likely to lose it. I’m 10 weeks now and it was at this point we found out the baby was only 6 weeks with no heartbeat the first time. With this pregnancy we saw the heartbeat just before 9 weeks so I know my chances are pretty good. The next scan is in 5 days. I guess I’m worried I’m going through all this and we could still lose the baby. It’s just so hard being this ill because I can’t keep busy to pass the time. Sorry for the rant. I hope you’re all doing ok today and getting some rest! Xx

abbs1 · 15/09/2019 17:28

@LucindaE I went to a and e early this morning and was seen straight away. I got fluids and anti sickness meds. The gynae doctor was really good and basically I need to go to EPU every 3/4 days to get fluids to keep me going. My lips are peeling and sore, my skin is dry as anything and just feel really poorly. I was told to go back middle of the week and get pumped full again to keep me going. I must say the hospital I go to have been nothing but amazing it's been the gps that dont have a clue.
@catconfusion I would certainly look for help hun. Dont suffer on your own. Ondansetron started well for me and I'm on that and metoclopramide as well. Dont suffer in silence. If the gp doesn't help please go to hospital and they can help you. I've been 6/7 times in the past 3 weeks.

Catconfusion · 15/09/2019 18:07

@abbs1 I'm so glad you've been treated so well at the hospital. I hope going to EPAU every few days gets it under control. You must feel wretched. I'm so sorry it's so bad.

I'll see how I go with the doctor. Today it's been difficult to keep anything down. I just took a Zantac, had some snacks and I'm feeling a little better so hopefully I'll get some sleep tonight.

Let us know how it goes this week! xx

Meet Charlotte. Born today at 16.41pm

Labour was quick.. 4 hours 11 mins from first contraction. Had my sweep just before 12 this afternoon. Didn't have time for a water birth. She was born within 30 mins of getting to the hospital

@deaddoorstep awww huge congratulations! So glad your labour went well and was quick! Absolutely adorable!

Catconfusion · 15/09/2019 20:06

Hey @DeadDoorpost congratulations on the birth of your beautiful daughter. How are you feeling? Xx

LucindaE · 15/09/2019 20:11

DeadDoorPost Welcome to Charlotte! One of my favourite names. What a lovely baby. Welcome to the Pink Castle to you. Star FlowersStar Smile Brew
Abbs1 I am so glad you got fluids and a good plan for returning every three days. I am so glad the hospital are helpful.
Catconfusion Poor you. Ten weeks is the worst stage for many. It is very hard waiting for a scan when you have had an mmc before. The chances are strongly on your side. There are several medications that they can offer if Cyclzine wasn't really effective. Stemitil and Metoclopramide are two of them. I am so glad that an anti acid helped. It can make a huge difference to levels of sickness. Taking Zantac sounds an excelent idea.

@Catconfusion very warm... temp can't really be changed here at the hospital but other than that I'm feeling good. A little tired. Charlotte seems to sleep better than DS already which is nice.

norbert23 · 15/09/2019 21:47

Massive congratulations she's a beauty @DeadDoorpost well done and enjoy the cuddles, tea and toast x

Catconfusion · 15/09/2019 21:58

I can imagine @DeadDoorpost hospitals are so oppressive. I hope you get hope with your dear one soon. Great news that she’s sleeping so well! Xx

TwoShades1 · 16/09/2019 05:31

Congrats DeadDoorPost !!!

I’m 35 weeks and going for a hospital tour tonight. Thankfully feel basically ok here during the day, still get nausea in the late evening and overnight. I’ve got a lot on at the moment. Trying to buy a new car and the company I brought my nursery furniture from have made a complete balls of things. So stress levels have been a bit high.

Snipples · 16/09/2019 06:59

Massive congratulations @DeadDoorpost what a little beauty she is! I hope you're feeling tonnes better!

Catconfusion · 16/09/2019 07:13

Hey @LucindaE thank you. Interesting that week 10 is often the worst week. I’m off to the doctor soon so hoping she can help. You’re right it’s very nerve wracking after loss. I just hope little one is ok. Everything was great at my scan just under 9 weeks. Zantac is amazing. I’m not sure why I didn’t try it sooner. I’m wondering if the doctor can give me a stronger dose. I’ll ask about the other medications. Xx

Marshmallow1992 · 16/09/2019 17:50

Huge congratulations @DeadDoorpost Charlotte is beautiful.

Not checked in for a while, had a few weeks of being very up and down. One day I feel fine, then have 3/4 days of being awful. 20+5 now and think I’m going to be sick the whole way through.

Reastie · 16/09/2019 17:59

Dead that’s fantastic, congrats x

Bol87 · 16/09/2019 18:20

Congratulations DeadDoorpost! Beautiful bambino 🧡 I hope you are feeling OK and no longer sick! Woohoo!

So glad you got some help abbs! Thank goodness for proper support & understanding!

Catconfusion · 17/09/2019 09:26

Hey everyone. I hope you’re all doing ok. I saw my doctor yesterday who has written me a prescription for ondestron but before I take it she’s given me high strength Zantac to try first. For the first time in I don’t know how long I slept through the night and wasn’t sick when I woke up. I’ve gagged a few times but I feel like I have far better control over whether I vomit or not. My tummy doesn’t feel as sore either. I’m not sure how long it will last but I thought I’d share in case it helps someone else! Xx

StarWanderer · 17/09/2019 12:17

Hey all am really struggling today. Am on ondansetron and metaclopromide (max doses) but feeling so nauseous today, cold and shaky, and just utterly miserable I don't know what to do with myself. I'm worried its mostly in my head than physical now too as yesterday afternoon I thought I was feeling a bit better. Am only 7 weeks.
Any suggestions / hand hold please?

Basil90 · 17/09/2019 12:47

Hi guys, just wanted to drop in on this thread. I'm now mum to my three month old DS. I was vomiting even past my due date (though not with the same frequency as earlier in pregnancy) so I'm afraid it doesn't always get better. I also developed a total meat aversion in my third trimester. For anyone looking to try medication, I found that a combination of cyclizine three times a day and buccastem twice a day provided me with some relief. I know how difficult it is when you can't see an end in sight but just you wait until you're holding your baby in your arms. It'll all be worth it in the end. Hang in there all xxx
