I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
It has been suggested that I add some practical tooth cleaning advice: a lot of sufferers find using a child's small toothbrush and strawberry toothpaste far less nauseating.
On my image of a pink castle: that is an image I use because when I was little, my family had a Snakes and Ladders board with an image on the last square of a pink castle in the clouds. As Hyperemesis is so like a grotesque version of Snakes and Ladders - eat a meal, go up a ladder, first thing in the morning bile run, down a snake - I have used the image of that pink castle on the last square of that Snakes and Ladders board as a metaphor for the happy end of Hyperemesis.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

advocadoo Joning DeadDoorPost in hoping it is the real thing.
Sorry that the midwife is still being ridiculous. I meant to say, that is the first time I must say a good word in favour of Macdonalds, if eating their foodstuffs has helped you survice this. Grin
Bray23 I don't know if Mother Hen here is being bird brained - far from unusual - but I don't remember the name! Are you are regular with a name change or someone new? Welcome, if so. Smile

Bray23 Really sorry - just remembered! You introduced yourself a few days ago and are about 11 weeks. Mother Hen was indeed being bird brained.

Does anyone else get chest or rib pain when vomiting? It's a sharp pain that shoots through my left side, through my breast. I've got a doctors appointment in the morning but just wondering if others have had it?

@sprite25 I completely agree that today can fuck off.

avacadooo · 19/08/2019 07:38

Still no sign of this baby, obviously it's taking my shite time keeping skills.

Does anybody that's already sprouted a child know from experience of the vomiting ramps up just before labour?
I hadn't been sick for a couple of weeks and all of a sudden I can't stop, yesterday I almost spewed on a sleeping dh in bed and then again at night and this morning I've been sick twice!

norbert23 · 19/08/2019 09:26

@avacadooo I've been feeling sick on and off the last 2 days and have seriously achey pelvic pains which I hope means things are going to happen soon. I was really lucky that I wasn't sick last time in labour and I'm hoping that it won't come back again this time either. It sounds really hard - hope it's a sign that you're ready, otherwise it just seems really unfair! X

silversplodge · 19/08/2019 11:07

avacadooo I think it got generally worse in the weeks leading up, and lots of vomiting during labour once I hit transition. Not sure it was a sign of labour being imminent though - sorry!

avacadooo · 19/08/2019 11:52

@norbert23 hopefully you're close too and don't suffer any vomiting during it!

I've somehow managed to beg triage to give me a sweep so I at least have a fair chance of going into labour before this induction on Wednesday because I'm terrified of being induced, it made my sister cry and She's broken bones and not shed a tear before! I can't believe I've had to take my care into my own hands because the midwife said she'd phone to offer me a sweep and talk through induction today and bugger all. I feel bad for hassling triage but I'm desperate at this point, I'm so over being sick right now.

MumbleLumble · 19/08/2019 12:16

So we were supposed to be going on a trip of a life time to florida in about 6 weeks time. I found out I was pregnant after booking the holiday and because of how horrible I've been feeling, I haven't told my travel insurance yet. I'm going to cancel the holiday because I just can't risk feeling like this on a holiday I'll probably never be able to do again. We've paid £2.5k for our flights. Does anyone know if there's any chance of getting any of our money back please?

isitjanuary · 19/08/2019 13:19

@avacadooo I was induced with my first baby. It was painful but I then had an epidural. Which I wish I'd asked for sooner. Have you considered your pain relief options? My waters were broken by the doctor after the epidural too.

isitjanuary · 19/08/2019 13:22

I also didn't vomit during labour. As soon as baby was out and I'd slept I was thinking about burgers.

Em6826 · 19/08/2019 19:08

@MumbleLumble feel your pain, definitely. Have you been to see the doctor, had hg diagnosed? You might need them to give you a note to say you're not fit to fly.

I was reading about this for a different reason (I need to travel for work and want to check I'm insured). Usually airlines only need a note when you're above 28 weeks, but some insurance requires you to have a fit to fly note earlier.

So - insurance wise that might be your best bet, but you'll need to dig into your T&Cs.

Blii · 19/08/2019 19:17

Evening ladies.
Apologies as I’ve not read the recent posts properly just a quick skim read.
Just to update you all, I had my beautiful baby boy yesterday afternoon just after 2pm at 40+2. He weighs 5lbs9oz and is just perfect. All the sickness really is worth it and I’m finally at the pink castle. It’s glorious.
I was sick a few times after delivery, but I’m pretty sure that was down to the gas and air. I felt a bit sicky for the rest of the day and my spitting carried on until this morning. But now.. no nausea and no spitting!
All I can say is, hang in there ladies every single moment is completely worth it. Love to all Flowers

LucindaE · 19/08/2019 19:46

Bili Wonderful news. Star Flowers Smile Brew Cake Congratulations on baby boy. Welcome to the Pink Castle, I am so glad you like being here. I had the drawbridge down, and have left it down for adcvocadoo. You have been very stoic. Thank you so much for your message of encouragement.
avocadoo Your poor sister. Some have had a good experience of inductions, with adequate pain relief, as 1stjanuary says.
silversplodge Lovely to hear from you.
MumbleLumble I wish I could advise. It's a shame. In the future, there will be lovley holidays with the cause of the problem.
Wav es to norbert Em6826 DeadDoorPost Bray23 - whom I did rudely forget - and everyone.

@Blii that’s lovely news congratulations!

@MumbleLumble I’m sure if you’re insured and with a doctors note you will get your money back although not 100%

beforeIhit30 · 20/08/2019 08:43

Congratulations @Blii! Star How lovely Smile

I’m sorry it’s all fallen to you @avacadooo, I hope it’s all going okay. FWIW my last induction went very well, they’re not always super painful - but I was told that if you get the drip to request an epidural at the same time (and just don’t let them put the drip in until the epidural is happening basically). The drip can cause some pretty intense contractions but this can pretty much be managed by having an epidural at the same time, apparently. If you wait for the epi it can end up being too late as the labour may progress very quickly with the drip. My last induction happened with just the pessary, and I’m a fan of gas and air, so that was fine, but if I end up in drip territory then I’m prepared for the epi for that.

One week to go... feeling a bit daunted at times, as well as tired, DH is nervous about being too tired or feeling unwell (chronic illness) so he’s been trying to sort lots of stuff (like going for updated blood tests and such). Ultimately I’m sure we’ll be fine but it’s weird to be on this countdown. 38+2 today... Confused

LucindaE · 20/08/2019 19:23

beforeihit30 I am cheering you and norbert on. I am so glad that bili is enjoying being in the Pink Castle!
I won't put up the Due Dates list until advocadoo's little menace has arrived; it might seem like rubbing it in.
Waves to Marshmallow and everyone.

Currently lying down to see if any twinges die down or if something is about to happen! I'm so ready for the pink castle... @LucindaE you are a star and have been fabulously wise and supportive throughout. Hopefully I have some news soon! (I have just cursed myself and will probably end up being 2 weeks overdue 😭) x

DeadDoorpost · 20/08/2019 21:11

Congratulations @Blii !! And come on baby avacadooo and baby Norbert

I can't wait for my pregnancy to be over. Less than 3 weeks... but good news... I CAN give birth in the Birth centre after being told I couldn't.

Em6826 · 21/08/2019 09:14

Checking back in to say hello (now at 9+4). I'm super struggling at the moment - working from home as much as possible and not able to do anything at home. Have been physically sick at least once a day for the last two weeks (5x on the worst day) including throwing up anti-sickness meds. Heavy nausea all day. But in between I am managing to eat (a lot of toast) and drink. So I know it's not as bad as some have it. Still, is this normal?? Needing to see the light at the end of the tunnel...

sprite25 · 21/08/2019 09:23

Hi all, just checking in. Sympathy for everyone who is feeling awful, it is horrible and not everyone understands it. Fingers crossed I've had a couple of good days lately, after having a few awful days of throwing up til I pissed myself 🙄. It's ridiculous, I'm glad to be feeling better but now it's made me worry in the back of my head about MC, despite no pain or bleeding or anything. Just under two weeks til scan then we can finally tell everyone and I don't have to try and hide it if I feel awful

Imagineit · 21/08/2019 10:07

Hi everyone,

I’m hopefully getting referred to the EPU today as I’m just feeling so dreadful. I’m managing to keep down little bits here and there do I doubt I’m dehydrated but I really want the experts to help evaluate my meds. I’m feeling so sorry for myself and then guilty all at once as I know my hg isn’t as bad as some people get it but I just miss having any kind of life at all or being able to even do small things - it’s so damn depressing

Moonstone12 · 21/08/2019 10:19

Hi ladies. May I join you please?

Just found out I'm pregnant with my 4th and have had horrific hyperemisis with all my pregnancy's. I'm super nervous again about the intense nausea/sickness and feelings of depression that come with it.

This will be my partners first DC and I've tried to explain how bad I get the sickness but I'm not sure he'll understand lol.

So hoping being on here I can get some
Support from all of you? I've only slight nausea at the moment but it's still super early and my sickness doesn't normally start till 5/6 weeks. Xx

LucindaE · 21/08/2019 20:26

Moonstone12 Welcome. You are very brave. What meds usually help, if any? I am sure as a veteran you know far better than me how it is best to get pre-emptive meds as the sooner the treatment starts the better. I certainly don't need to givey you my 'have you got kesostix and do you find flat full sugar coke, the juice of tinned fruit and ice lollies any good' spiel. Everyone is very supportive on this thread. Have you got childcare arranged or are your OH's of schoolage?
norbert That is a lovely comment; thank you. I am so glad the thread has helped you. I am decorating the Pink Castle specially for yiou and advocadoo. Hopefully it won't be two weeks. Flowers
DeadDoorPost Good news about the birth centre Smile.
EMS68626 Oh no, poor you. In fact, a lot of sufferers find that week end is one of the worst. Things get better for almost everyone compared to the dreadful early weeks.
Imagineit Vent away.Never feel guilty for complaning, just because some sufferers are feeling even worse. I am glad you've got a referral to EPU.
SpriteMuch sympathy over wetting yoruself before and the worry. It is a shame when one can't enjoy the good days through fear of miscarriage. Almost certainly it is a good day, and a sign of more to come in the future.
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

Ohhhhh I feel awful, not having a good afternoon, DM has popped in for an unexpected visit (doesn't know I'm pg) so I'm sat here having to pretend I'm fine when I just want to rock back and forth (keep feeling like I'm gonna retch, how do I explain that one away?) I can't wait for bedtime 😭

Bol87 · 22/08/2019 15:07

Oh Sprite - that’s tough. I look such a state I don’t think I could hide! My mum isn’t overly sympathetic but she is a huge help with my daughter & food shopping & washing! Are you not telling her for a reason?

Hope you are OK!

I’m 10+3 today & it’s kicking my bum. Heartburn has drastically appeared this week as well, oh the joys! Two weeks to my 12 week scan ..

Sending love to those in the midst, keeping on trucking!
