Period-like camps

Hi all,

I started freaking out as I spoke to two different GPs over the course of last week. One said period-like cramps are normal and another started telling me about ectopic pregnancy and said to think about arranging a very early scan. My period like cramps are not on either of the sides, they are general and as a background but last night I freaked out as I woke up and i felt as if my period will come but it passed in about 20 minutes and I fell asleep again. I am 5-6 weeks pregnant and those period-like pains come and go or the overall feeling of being in a period stays in the background. Also my breast hurt some days while others is better. I am very anxious and nervous as I had a miscarriage last year at week 9 and now every little thing that happens freaks me out. I was given a medicine for trash, some internal gel, which I never used as I am scared and decided not to use it. Even a camera worries me as last year I had numerous scans. I registered for midwife and she will call me next week, I think she will arrange an early scan just in case.

Any thoughts would be very appreciated. Thank you all.

Didn’t want to read and run. I think mild cramps are fairly normal as your uterus tilts etc.
I was getting some which have appeared to have settled down.
It sounds like a reassurance scan would put your mind at rest, and it won’t hurt the baby so I’d go for that.
In the meantime, you need to try and relax as much as you can because worrying definitely won’t help, and it’s the one thing you can control!!

I'm in a similar situation to you, I'm currently 5 weeks pregnant with a history of ectopic and a miscarriage and since my period was due, but obviously didn't show up, I've been having almost constant cramps sometimes to the point where I need to have paracetamol to sleep. DH keeps telling me it must be normal as I had it with my two other healthy pregnancies but I honestly can't remember. Theres a lot of changes going on in there so it's bound to cause some kind of discomfort I guess. Maybe book an early scan, mines booked for when I'm around 6 and a half weeks, might help to reassure you

I had period cramps from about two weeks after having an embryo implanted (IVF) and I was terrified it was game over for me, but the cramps continued and were similar if not the same as period style cramps and lasted until about 9-10 weeks and I'm now 29 weeks

Doctor says it's stretching and normal as long as not accompanied by really heavy bleeding

I'm between 5-6 weeks too and also have the same type of cramps you're talking about. Keep thinking my period is arriving, but I think it's normal from what I have read. I'm now more concerned when I don't get the cramps!

I'm 9+2 and have had cramps since before my period was due. They come and go but are extremely painful, waking me up several times per night. This week it got particularly bad so I was advised to go to A&E followed by a trip to EPU for an early scan to rule out ectopic. All was well and midwife told me that it's very normal and no need to panic unless it gets worse or there's bleeding. She also advised not to be pregnant obsessed as women tend to ignore other niggles when pregnant but there could be something non - pregnancy related wrong. Digestive issues in early pregnancy can also cause cramping so it could be that. Good luck
