Hi mn, I had my anomaly scan today and am so beside myself. Everything came out fine except towards the end when the specialist measured the femurs she said she was quite concerned as it is short and bowed and less than the 5th percentile. She wants to scan again in two weeks but was talking about an amniocentesis and dwarfism and I'm just so scared and worried.

An amnio does carry a risk of miscarriage though. Would dwarfism be a reason for you to terminate this pregnancy? Because if it isn't, do you really want an amnio? And why? You don't have to tell me but just be clear to yourself what you want.

I terminated for a different anomoly. First I thought she just couldn't walk, but later tests showed so many more problems it was a severe possibility she might not make it till 2 yo. Of course everyone wants a healthy baby, but is dwarfism really so bad? Most lead good lives. Not saying that you should keep it, if you feel that you cannot give this child what it needs than of course you can still terminate. I'm not judging, even if I might sound that way.

Thank you. My dh and I decided against an amnio in any case. We are just terrified as the consultant could not say as yet how severe it is and the impact for the baby. She was particularly concerned as the legs were more bow shaped than normal.

The specialist also said that there is now a non invasive test for single gene defects with a 96 % accuracy rate.

Could you get a quick second opinion ?
