Hi all,

Hope I’m not the only weird person.. I’m absolutely desperate for ice pops/ice cubes and I’ve read low iron etc etc the midwife said how good my iron levels were at my last appt
Could they be dropping? Or am I just craving this because of baby?
I think it’s the crunching that im really craving but I literally lie in bed dreaming of it?
Anyone the same? Grin

I was the same during my pregnancy, every night I’d eat glasses of ice! My iron got lower towards the end but I craved ice from the beginning so might have just been a coincidence

Chicken101 · 21/07/2019 21:08

Thanks for replying! I’ve craved ice for a while I’m just over 19 weeks now.. but It’s such a funny one! 😀😀😀

I had the ice craving too, if you want to go really crazy, freeze some fresh orange juice. Ohhhhhhh sooooooo good!

GabrielleSolis24 · 21/07/2019 21:14

I also craved the smell of magazines, catalogues etc, so in comparison ice seemed fairly normal lol

Chicken101 · 21/07/2019 21:15

Lwmommy ohhh! Yes that is my idea of a party Grin

A friend of mine had this and would freeze punnets of grapes for a crunchy snack.

Ithoughtyouwere · 21/07/2019 21:17

Yes I loved crunching ice cubes!! By the end of my pregnancy I had a proper ice cube tray system in place to make sure I never ran out.... never came back with low iron levels either though despite what they say. Might be worth mentioning it to the midwife at your next check though, so they can be sure?

I cried one day because the local cinema hadn't turned on the slushee machine, and all morning I had been thinking about the lemon slushee.

Seriously, tears rolling down my face, uncontrollable, frustrated crying because I couldn't have a sour slushee. Pregnancy hormones are fun!

Ilovelala · 21/07/2019 21:20

I am the same with this pregnancy and my previous one 8years ago and my levels are all normal and always have been. Struggling with how addicted I am though.

Chicken101 · 21/07/2019 21:23

Oh I love all these suggestions! My poor OH has to listen to me all day about how much I wanna crunch Ice and he’s just like why don’t you drink water? That’ll help? I’m like NO I WANNA CRUNCH. 😂 I’m sure he thinks I’m mad.. but I got really upset because I couldn’t go and buy a bag of ice at midnight.. I was day dreaming about it in bed!! It’s insane 😀😀 gotta love pregnancy!

Omg this is me! On my 4th pregnancy & I have had the crushing ice cubes craving with all but my 1st pregnancy. I literally crunch ice cubes all day I’m constantly filling up my ice cube trays 🤣 everyone thinks I’m nuts. But ahh how satisfying is it lol. It is so strange though I never ever do it or feel like doing it when I’m not pregnant! But yep from usually about 2nd trimester it kicks in & I need to crunch! 🤣 Dh is fed up with me doing it as it’s so loud but I sit there happy as Larry crunching away! I do have low iron levels though so I did put it down to that but you all say your iron is ok so it’s good to know I’m not the only one who does it 🤣

Merename · 22/07/2019 08:55

It’s so interesting! Does anyone know why low iron levels cause ice craving anyway?

oldmumnewmum · 22/07/2019 09:29

loving ice atm, i have a system too so i don't run out, the coldness, the crunch, the texture on my tongue...better than sex...i think i need help lol x

xsamix86 · 22/07/2019 10:14

I am currently on a ice lolly/frozen drink binge at the moment. Not so much for the crunch but I think this baby likes the cold. I haven't resorted to crunching ice cubes yet, but have a whole freezer drawer dedicated to rocket lollies!

Crustytoenail · 22/07/2019 10:24

Yep, same here. My iron dropped towards the end and afterwards (had treatment) but the craving went as soon as she was born. I was on a thyroid study though and I was found to have 'decreasing levels' but they righted themselves after birth, but that was it.
I had horrendous morning sickness and started sucking ice cubes to moisten my mouth as I literally couldn't keep anything down, then when the sickness eased I found myself fantasising about bloody ice cubes! The crunch was just so satisfying. I still have about 10 big ice cube trays kicking around - as a pp said I had a system going so I never ran out. Once the sickness eased the heartburn started and I think it helped at least subconsciously a bit with that.
I was obsessed, but it was at least a cheap craving!
Congratulations on your pregnancy.

Hahah all very similar feelings amongst us.. mine doesn’t stop at ice cubes either although it’s preferred I love ice pops and the fruit pastel lolly ices/slushes. I’m not so big on ice cream though.. maybe it’s cause of the dairy! Sending love and hope to all you other pregnant ladies during this heatwave Smile!

I was the same.

Ice cubes were my vice.
So was bubble bath (Radox Stress Relief only!!) and bath sponges.
I used to soak a sponge in the bubbly bath water and spend ages chewing and sucking on it.
Then drinking the bath water itself.

Went through a bottle every few days.

Utterly nuts.

pallisers · 22/07/2019 14:48

god 17 years later and I can still remember that. It is called pica I think. I friend used to want to eat the cold embers from the fire.

It was the only time I felt a proper compulsion to do something. I would have to restrain myself from scooping ice from strangers' drinks. I would just take dh's. Had a bit glass of ice constantly by my side at the office (luckily lived in US where there was an ice machine on every floor).

I used to worry a bit about my teeth.

Mitebiteatnite · 22/07/2019 14:50

I craved ice in both my pregnancies but then I did have very low iron levels.

If you want a real party, fill 2 clean (so preferably new) baking trays with water and make yourself some sheets of ice. One in the freezer and one on the go. It does require a fairly empty freezer, but it's worth the freezer tetris to make space for it.

Freeze it, snap it up like brittle toffee and crunch to your hearts delight. Not even pregnant now but I think I might do it again.

Mitebiteatnite · 22/07/2019 14:51

Oh and mine was so bad I genuinely considered using some of my savings for an ice machine. Luckily I realised how ludicrous it was before I actually did it.
