Go to snacks for the first trimester?

With my last pregnancy, I was so sick, I went off all food and survived on pombears, fish fingers & tinned oranges! I lost quite a bit of weight from it..

This time, I am still fully expecting the nausea & sickness to hit but so far, I’ve had the opposite. I am starving all the time and if I don’t eat, I feel really sick. Confused

I’m slightly concerned I’m going to end up the size of a house & so I wondered what people’s go to healthy snacks were/are? That I guess are fairly filling to try to stop this extreme hunger! I’m a pretty healthy eater in general but not much of a snacker so I’m a bit low on ideas. If I do snack, it tends to be a couple ryvita (I like them!), a slice of toast, nothing thrilling..

Thanks in advance!

Each time you snack, balance it. For example, have carbs and protein and fruit (and chocolate). So a small cheese roll, an apple and a chocolate mousse (I had the alpro soya dark chocolate ones).
If you only have carbs you’ll feel just as bad an hour later.

I was worried about the same op. I snacked on slices of toast and cubes of cheese (weirdly one of the only things to stay down). Thought I'd put on loads of weight eating essentially half a loaf of bread and half a pack of cheese a day but at 16w I'd not gained a pound! Weird. I'm now 27w and it's all much more settled - I can eat properly and have lots of fruit and veg etc. So don't worry too much right now - just get through it and once the sickness goes you can adjust your diet.

I'm going through this now and truthfully I am just snacking on whatever works at that current time. There is nothing that seems to last for long with me... Toast was my go to for breakfast but that went away last week.

Unfortunately, things that work best for me are not the healthiest--carbs! It does mean I make a conscious effort to have higher protein main meals though to try and balance things out.

Polos also massively help in a pinch. Probably just sucking on something.

Thank you! I’m so hungry this time, it’s crazy! I finished a lovely thai green curry for tea (bought a new slow cooker on prime day, it’s a revelation!) and I was still so hungry, I’ve eaten a packet of my daughters microwave rice Blush

Great idea with a balance of snacks, a healthy choice and then mostly likely a carb heavy! I’m very much wanting savoury in complete contrast to last time.. I wonder if there’s anything in the old wives tales, we have a daughter.. Grin

Cheddar cheese and grapes

Hummus and cracker

Cracker and Philadelphia cream cheese

Nkd chocolate orange or bakewell bars - one bar is one of your five a day!

Banana

Handful of dried fruit/nuts

Salted/Sweet popcorn (not too many cals per bag and went down v easily!)

Btw the sickness when you're hungry is due to low blood sugar. Sugar that's too easy to digest (white bread, sweets, refined sugar, cakes etc) will just make you hungry an hour or two later.

That's why the PP post about balance is good. Try and eat protein with carbs and try choose brown/whole grain carbs where poss x
