Hi all,

Seriously considering a home birth for my first. I live 15 mins from the hospital (7 mins ish if blue lighted), low risk pregnancy and love the idea of being in my own space. I'm very open to the fact that I may have to get transferred in and that's okay but I would love to hear tips about preparation, what I need, any questions I should be asking the midwife etc.

Thank you!!

I had an unplanned home birth with our first, the hospital wouldn't admit me when I was in labour and told me to go home as I was in for a long wait - six hours later DD was born at home.

I am pregnant again and will be having a planned home birth as quite honestly, I don't trust the hospital to provide adequate care after last time and I liked being at home and comfortable. I did it without them once, I can do it again and this time I will have midwifes and gas & air!

Hi op, I am also considering homebirth, I'm 34 weeks) and feel the same.
My logic is that the midwife unit is in a different town the the hospital and so if I went to the midwife unit it's about 40 mins drive and if any emergency came up there id have to be blue lighted to the hospital 20 mins from the unit.
The village I live in is 20 mins from the hospital so I don't see any sense in leaving home to go somewhere else then go to hospital if I can just stay home and go to hospital.
My midwife is very reassuring and I also know that if I change my mind along the way, I can.

I had a home birth with my first and it was amazing! I hired a blow up pool and loved being in my own home and was very relaxed. Planned a home birth with my second, but had to go to hospital due to meconium in my waters. It was fine, but there was something extra special about being at home and being able to get into my own bed and snuggle my new baby afterwards.
