Echogenic Bowel - 20 week scan abnormality

I had my scan today and was getting very nervous about it. My fears were sadly confirmed and I have now been referred to the Fetal Medicine Unit at another university hospital. I should hear from them by Friday and I hope get an appointment next week.

I'm feeling a bit deflated now. Everyone was saying it would be ok and it isn't but I don't know that for certain. The women at the hospital trust I'm with were so lovely to me but said they couldn't give me any info in case it is wrong. Having consulted doctor Google though it would seem it could be a few things either the swallowing of blood (I had three small early bleeds), down syndrome, Cystic Fibrosis or potential virus/infection. For once knowing the potential risk has helped me rather than not knowing for days.

I would be grateful to hear from anyone who has experienced this or similar and what happened if that's ok to ask?

Hi I just wanted to let you know that there is a thread by another poster about an echogenic bowel in the Antenatal Tests section - it's quite easy to find as not as many posts as in pregnancy. You might get a better response there? I saw it because I was looking to see if anyone had posted about echogenic kidneys which our baby has. I know how you feel, it was such a shock for us when we went for the scan and it was confirmed by Fetal Medicine this week. Feel like we're in limbo with no real answer and no idea how things will go x

@AndBeholdAWhiteHorse I had the same at my 20 week Scan it was awful and the rest of my pregnancy was such a worry.
I had the torch screening blood test which was all clear.
I was scanned with a fetal consultant who said not to worry as it was the only soft marker - easier said than done.
I had growth scans at 28, 36 and 38 weeks and was induced at 39 weeks due to stress and my age (38).
DD is now 5 months and is absolutely perfect all that stress was for nothing thankfully. Since having dd I have met 2 other women with the same diagnosis and both had babies with nothing wrong.

I hope everything is ok I know how stressful it is x
