15 weeks + referred to breast clinic ☹️

What a rollercoaster this pregnancy is being. I’m 15 weeks + 2. Last week, I went to the doctors. I’ve had a lump in my armpit for a couple of weeks. I’ve had them before and I’ve needed antibiotics or they’ve just gone away with time. I decided to get it checked out anyway. First, the nurse examined me and then the doctor. They said it seemed quite ‘deep’ so they were going to do a two week referral to the breast clinic. They did explain that they were probably being overcautious but I was just so taken aback. I was really upset once I left the doctors. Since then, the lump does seem to have come more to the surface. I wondered if the whole thing was just swollen after being prodded and poked by the doctor but it doesn’t seem ‘bigger’, it just seems more noticeable and to the surface. I‘m trying to take that as some kind of positive although maybe I’m just trying to make myself feel better.
I have my appointment this coming Friday - it’s going to be a long week ☹️. Has anyone had any similar experiences?

im no expert but id say that sounds more like a cyst. (my dh suffers with cysts all over and if i poke them they get come more to surface) Also, like you, with hormones, i get them monthly. or did (nearly 12 weeks)

its good theyre getting you checked over.

im nearly 12 weeks and i was referred to breast clinic at 6 weeks, i shit myself. i had "lumpy breast tissue" and terrible itching. all looked normal on scan. they were really nice at clinic.

best wishes for you. xx

Hi, just to provide some support, I've also had a few breast scans throughout my pregnancy as I have benign cysts that they just want to keep monitored. Usually it's just for precautionary measures so I wouldn't worry too much :)

I had a breast lump which appeared after a miscarriage, it was very distressing but turned out to be a cyst. My GP thought it was a cyst but it didn’t stop my brain from going to a dark place. It’s promising that your GP doesn’t seem too concerned and are referring you just in case. They have to do that for any lumps that don’t go down. It’s so easy for them to be checked over on an ultrasound. I have no medical training but your lump sounds like a gland under the arm that hasn’t gone down after an infection- I had one of those in my neck and it was normal. Sometimes that happens. Remember 8/9 lumps that are referred to the breast clinic are benign. Hormones from pregnancy can cause benign changes in the breast too. It’s rare for someone of your age to have breast cancer so you have everything on your side. The wait is the worst bit, but I’m glad you only have a few more days. Just distract yourself as much as possible. Best of luck and let us know what happens Flowers

how did you get on @Elbie2019

Elbie2019 · 28/07/2019 22:56

Hi everyone,

Thank you for your responses. It was a difficult wait but definitely worth getting checked out. Thankfully, they examined me and then sent me for an ultrasound. They have come to the conclusion that it’s the tail of the breast tissue extending into the armpit. They’ve also warned me that as my boobs get bigger during pregnancy, so will this! Hopefully they don’t get too big ey!

@bessie84 Thank you for checking on me x
