Thank you everyone. Waiting to go down to triage in advance of the op. Was told yesterday that I was likely to go down around 7am but it took well over 1 1/2 hours to get consistent tracing on the ctg monitor by which time the night staff had gone off duty so now I’m waiting for the day shift to sort things out.

As soon as I’m well enough to be back online and know what is happening with the twins, I will update you all - and hopefully have a couple of photos!!

HJWT · 22/08/2019 10:56

@Rememberallball so excited for you 🤞🏻🥰

Hope it’s all gone well for @Rememberallball.

I’ve just finished work until 3rd sept. Then only 6 more days after that! Yay!
Feeling a bit more energetic today. Hopefully it lasts as we have a jam packed week ahead with catching up with friends and ds’ 4th birthday. Fingers crossed the forecast is correct and we get to enjoy some end of summer beach time. Hopefully no one will mistake me for a whale if I go swimming 😂🐳

2018isanewyear · 22/08/2019 19:35

Had a growth scan today (33+4) and baby is breech they have scared me a bit and said I will have to have c-section if it doesn't move and they are normally in position between now and 36 weeks. Anyone know what the chance of he/she turning before then? I'm pretty gutted to be honest

Otherwise scan was all good though

YorkshireIndie · 22/08/2019 19:49

@2018isanewyear have a look at the website spinning babies.

It feels like my bump has doubled overnight. It is now painful to bend over, sit and my feet have really swollen today 😫 Just want to lie on my side it is that painful

newbabyyy2019 · 22/08/2019 20:00

@2018isanewyear
My scan yesterday at 33+2 showed that my baby is breech and they've told me not to worry because they don't tend to turn till around 36 weeks.. that's what I was told so I'm not worrying myself too much, you still have plenty of time for baby to turn!

cattaxi · 22/08/2019 20:21

@2018isanewyear my baby is all over the place. Keeps turning from breech to transverse & back again. Pretty uncomfortable! There is plenty of time for yours to move. Glad everything was ok with your scan.

@YorkshireIndie my bump seems to have grown loads. I saw my secretary at work for the first time in a week and her jaw dropped at how big she though I was. I cannot wait not to be pregnant so that people look me in the eye instead of the belly & realise it’s not acceptable to comment on my size!

I’m getting loads of Braxton hicks tonight. Bump keeps going rock solid. I really hope they calm down before I go to sleep!

HJWT · 22/08/2019 20:50

@2018isanewyear @newbabyyy2019 my baby had been head down for weeks now! He did flip though last week for about 24 hours them turned back!!

@cattaxi after one of you lovely lot explained what Braxton hicks felt like I realised iv been having them most nights 😂 I thought what I was feeling was baby pushing out ! So stupid 🤦🏻‍♀️

@Rememberallball really hope everything has gone well and to plan. You'll all be in great hands and to think you'll have a pair of little ones to cuddle up to 💕 .

I'm not worried about position yet. My midwife said this week (34 weeks) that they aren't concerned until 36 weeks. I still have no idea how people can tell though as I just get random movements and jabs but can't identify if it's a foot or hand or what. I go with where the hiccups are from and that's it.
My dd was head down the whole time, like every midwife appointment she was in the perfect position so this one is definitely different.

I'm currently at my parents (down south) as we are off to France today. Need to be up at 5am to drive to the tunnel. I still feel like an idiot going on holiday at 34 weeks. Granted we didn't know at the time, but I'm aware how tough it is likely to be.
I'm nervous about getting to the apartment and finding it, parking, meeting the host etc. It's my first Airbnb experience and I don't think I'll be relaxed until we have arrived.
Oh and please cross you're fingers for me that baby stays put until we get home!

I'm finding I suffer a lot if I eat a large meal these days. It's like the increase in stomach size pushes baby down to the bottom of the bump and it gets really hard and uncomfortable down low like baby is squeezing into a small space.
Once my food gets digested the discomfort seems to go.

Rememberallball · 23/08/2019 04:49

Hello all. Sorry for radio silence, yesterday ended up being rather busy. We were originally told we’d be moved from the antenatal ward to central delivery suite around 7am to be prepared for theatre and then would wait there for my slot on the list - as it was a short notice booking the regular slots were filled and there were a couple of other emergencies as well.

We were still up on antenatal ward around 10:30am when the student midwife came to say they were sending for me and would be up in a few minutes. We went straight to the recovery area to drop off my bags and they took DH to change into scrubs while I went into theatre to be checked and prepped. It took them a while to do my spinal anaesthetic as I have long term back problems and arthritis so, in the end, they had to go 2 vertebral spaces higher than they usually would to be able to reach the space they needed - it was uncomfortable but done eventually. Then they got me positioned and drapes put up for the surgeons - there were at least 15 people in the room including 2 neonatal teams and 2 consultant obstetricians (sadly not my regular consultant as she was busy on labour ward) - but they were lovely and included a Greek lady which was nice for me as our IVF 2as done in Cyprus and our egg donor was Greek.

From the spinal being administered to both babies being born was approximately 20-25 minutes and then they had to sort me out. DH went over to take photos of both babies while they were checked over. Second twin was transverse so it took some tugging to bring the baby down to the right position to emerge - baby arrived in the caul which, to naval families, can be seen as superstitious (my dad’s side of the family were a naval family).

Anyway, onto the important information...

Twins delivered at exactly 34 weeks gestation. Decision for early delivery was SGA of twin 2, almost no increase in abdominal circumference over 6 weeks and worsening blood flow Doppler studies in comparison to the previous week.

Twin 1 arrived at 11:54am, weighing 4lb 15.5oz (had been estimated at 4lb 11oz the previous day on growth scan) a boy called Samuel Arthur. (in the photo’s he is wearing white hat)

Twin 2 followed at 11:55am, weighing 3lb 6.5oz (had been estimated to be 3lb 3oz the previous day) another boy - he is called Joshua George and is wearing the yellow hat in photos).

They were well and neither needed ventilator support and apgars were very good so it was decided we would all go to transitional care unit and NICU unless one or other did cope with temperature regulation, glucose levels or if their breathing deteriorated. DH went up with the twins while I was stitched up and then moved to recovery. By the time we got up to the ward, both twins had feeding tubes in place to allow them to rest and not use their energy feeding. They are both in heated incubators to maintain their temperature but are in my room with me so not separated at all. They are being fed 3 hourly and, due to dips in glucose levels, have both been started on specialist prem baby formula which has really helped maintain their sugars.

Joshua has already managed to pull out his feeding tube once last night so looks like he’s going to be my little pickle while Samuel is my chilled out boy.

I still have my catheter in and haven’t been out of bed yet - this will be done later this morning and then hopefully the catheter will be removed and I will be more involved with their feeds/nappy changes.

We have been told expect to be in hospital for probably 2 weeks, there isn’t a minimum weight for discharge home, but they must be managing at least 50% of their feeds orally before they can go home and, because of where we live, we can go home under the care of the neonatal outreach nurses so they can still have their feeding tubes.

The system via my iPad isn’t letting me post a picture so I will post this and then look for a couple on my phone app.
