I have eaten anchovies - worried

So, like the title says I have just eaten anchovies, with a nice lime and mint sauce on top.

I bought them last week from Lidl, and they still tasted fine tonight when I was earing them, however I just read that a lady went in labour after eating them.

I'm 22 weeks and really worried.

Why? Are they on the list of foods to avoid as detailed by the NHS? If they are not then you are fine, if they are then contact someone for medical advice.

Read where?
There’s no reason anchovies should make you go into early labour

hormonesorDHbeingadick · 14/07/2019 18:36

Where did you read that? You need to read the NHS list of ‘banned foods’. Anchovies are definitely not on that list.

Relax.

I went into labour while i wad asleep - bet you'll still go to bed tonight!! Doesn't mean it wss the cause, just the event that she happened to be doing

BuffaloCauliflower · 14/07/2019 18:37

There’s nothing to worry about, anchovies are fine when pregnant just not in huge amounts (like other oily fish with potentially high mercury levels)

leasedaudi · 14/07/2019 18:40

If anchovies sent you into labour I think every woman would be eating them on their due date!

Oldpairofsocks · 14/07/2019 18:44

Yes, I know I'm being silly, just worried as they aren't normally cooked. The story I read was on a forum online, so nothing official.

Even if someone did go into labour after eating them, it certainly doesn't mean they went into labour because they are them. Have you had a look at the NHS website at the food guidance during pregnancy?

Read Expecting Better by Emily Osterley...really helps to contextualise over-anxiety around foods.

There’s pretty much nothing I wouldn’t eat, I’m 24w.
