I had really bad constipation yesterday and was that bloated I felt like I was going to pop.. I had some lactulose n pure orange juice. It was that uncomfortable it had me up in the night 3 times last night. I managed to go the tiniest little bit this morning but I'm literally so uncomfortable and keep getting a pain in my right side so not where baby is growing (I'm 9wks) and I feel like I have a stitch. I'm struggling to eat because I'm that uncomfortable.. I'm worried I've pulled a muscle straining or something I suffer with IBS? Should I ring epu and see if they can check baby I don't want to just leave it. I've had 2 mc this year

Have you already had a scan OP? Pain in the side can mean ectopic, so they’d probably want to check if not.

Go hospital now.

I've had 3 scans I had one on Thursday private and everything was fine.. but I can't help worrying about any pain I have and would rather be safe than sorry

It could be round ligament pain.

Hello
I spent 4 weeks in agony with constipation during 2nd month of pregnancy. Up several times a night crying it was so painful. Didn't know what it was and I was scared. I had phoned doctor to say I was pregnant but they weren't interested and wouldn't give me an appointment until I reached 10 weeks. I found the answer on mumsnet googling at 3am in the bathroom. I had been taking senna like you normally would - wrong!

Went to pharmacy and was given macrogol. Same sort of thing as Lactulose I think. But had to just keep taking it and wait it out. Have kept taking a small amount a day ever since to, ahem, keep things moving along.

This sounds wrong but I hope it's the same thing for you. Don't let doctors fob you off like I did. Be insistent. If it works that is a weight off your mind. If you feel worried ask for another scan as if you were saying you have IBS anyway the worry is going to make it worse.

Hope you feel better soon x

Constipation can cause pain in your right side and it's normal to become constipated in pregnancy. It's can be quite easy to underestimate quite how uncomfortable constipation can be

I don't recommend straining, just wait until you feel the need to go. I had the stitch pain in my side. The GP felt my stomach and said the was because my bowel wasn't fully emptying.

I've been taking 10ml lactulose twice a day, having at least 25g of fibre & drinking a lot of water. If I haven't been to the toilet that day I also add in a glass of prune juice before bed and that usually gets things moving the next day.

You can get lactulose on prescription, and I was also given suppositories if it got worse, but I have been able to get on top of things with the lactulose and diet. I'll do anything to avoid hemorrhoids.

I’ve suffered from constipation all my adult life regardless of how much blooming fibre I eat Confused I’m an absolute expert on diet & fibre & constipation but I still suffer!

I am prescribed Laxido by my doctor & I used it all through my first pregnancy. Movicol is another brand. It’s by far the best thing I’ve used & I’ve tried everything! Certainly worth a trip to your doc..!

Also, a bowl of All Bran a day does help me.. it tastes like cardboard but I grin & bear it Grin

Hope all is well Flowers
