Sac measurements/miscarriage?

17 replies

Eggcellent29 · 06/07/2019 20:06

Hi all

Does anyone out there know their sac measurements at 5 weeks 2 days or similar? I won’t bore you with the details of my case but long story short, I’ve been told mine is small and a cause for concern at 9.6mm and I am beside myself with worry about having miscarriage.

I appreciate any help you can offer!

Xxx

My sac was 8mm at 5 weeks and I'm now 21 weeks.

Eggcellent29 · 06/07/2019 21:00

Thanks! Apparently it’s meant to grow 1mm per day, so that would still put me behind :(

Not sure how important 0.4mm is!

Hi @Eggcellent29 did you go in for a scan because you had concerns??
I thought anywhere from 6-12mm was ok?

bloated1977 · 07/07/2019 00:43

At 5 weeks it should be 6mm

tisonlymeagain · 07/07/2019 08:43

At 5 weeks + 4 mine was 15.1mm which sounds huge compared to these measurements Blush

Eggcellent29 · 07/07/2019 09:02

@itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted Yeah, started spotting brown :(

Looks like another miscarriage

Resting heart rate has dropped 2bpm since spotting started as well

@Eggcellent29 oh no! What has your clinic said? Have they given you any extra medication to take? I read that 80% of ivf pregnancies experience bleeding of some kind

I've had a pretty sore stomach the last couple of days and cramps last night so I'm not hopeful either as that's how my previous miscarriages have started x

Eggcellent29 · 07/07/2019 13:04

@itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted

They won’t say anything, it’s so infuriating! She said it’s measuring slightly smaller than expected but it’s too early to tell if it will be a miscarriage or not. I asked if I should worry and she said it’s too early to tell again.

She said to call if I bleed red, didn’t seem fussed about the brown.

She didn’t give me any extra medication.

She said they want to move the scan up to see what’s going on and less stress for me. Apparently they can tell at 6+1 if it’s a miscarriage or not.

No idea what to do with myself until then :( I just feel like I’m waiting for the inevitable and drawing it out just makes it even more cruel

@itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted

I haven’t had any cramps :/

I think they are normal though? You haven’t had any bleeding or lost symptoms? Xx

@Eggcellent29 I think we used the same clinic (I vaguely think I remember a thread you saying you used Herts and Essex? Apologies if not)

When I had my 7 week viability scan I was measuring behind but they told me that it measurements can't be accurate at that stage. By 12 weeks my measurements were spot on.

I also had brown spotting at 6 weeks and then for a week at week 9 (incl bright red). If you're not cramping don't panic. You can never be sure at that stage. I know it's hard. I've been there.

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 07/07/2019 13:38

@Eggcellent29 it's weird as everything else on the internet says your measuring in the right range?

I know the feeling - it's the worst kind of cruelty - I just wish there was a fear you could do when you first get a BFP which says whether it will be a successful one or not. Have you done any clearblue tests - in April when I miscarried last I started brown spotting 5+0 for a couple of days then a day with nothing - clearblue went down from 2-3 to 1-2 by 5+3?

You had such high early hcg numbers on your first test maybe it was a vanishing twin? And that's what's causing the spotting

@Eggcellent29 sorry you are going through this! Try not to worry easier said then done! I’m kind of in the same boat as you had brown since three days after transfer but last week had a bright red bleed on wed so I am now in limbo they didn’t scan me only upped my meds I still have a bit of spotting! Just waiting now till Friday to hear the worst! I have everything crossed for you xx

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 07/07/2019 15:36

@Eggcellent29
I haven't had any bleeding yet but with one of my miscarriages I had a large bleed at 6+0 so I'm a few days away from that milestone yet. Although I had a tender uterus with that one and back ache in the days leading up to it

Symptoms coming and going but I haven't really got any strong symptoms anyway

Eggcellent29 · 07/07/2019 16:45

@PrayingandHoping That’s reassuring! I wasn’t told anything about them not been 100% accurate. She just said she could see the sac, it’s 9.6mm and it should be 1cm-1.5cm by now but everyone is different. All very vague and totally unhelpful :(

@FinallytakingtheplungewithIVF I haven’t taken a clear blue but I might give it a go. I’ve stayed away from them because last time we did this I had a positive test (not a digi to be fair!) an hour before my scan showed that baby had died. I am sorry to hear you’re going through this too! It’s so horrible :(

@itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted That could be a possibility, but I only had one embryo put back? It’s so hard - like you say my numbers were so high and they were all so certain everything would be fine, then in the space of a week all this!

I’m a bit cross with the consultant. Like, why tell me it’s small if it doesn’t matter? If you can’t tell me anything about what it means, why mention it?!

OP posts:
PrayingandHoping · 07/07/2019 16:49

I now can't remember which one it was who told me. I had a female non consultant do my 7 week scan and I def measured behind at that one.... the younger male consultant did my 9 and 11 week.....

Eggcellent29 · 08/07/2019 08:32

@PrayingandHoping thank you for replying babe. I’m keeping my fingers crossed my bubba catches up!

My resting heart rate has dropped again :( it looks like it’s overnight that’s bringing it down - but I have been sleeping slightly better due to not being woken every few hours (long story). I don’t know what to think. Last time it dropped before my miscarriage so I’m very paranoid!
