1st trimester - all feels a bit unreal right?!

So first trimester is a little odd right ladies! You feel like crap all the time, bloated, sick, hungry, tired, yet for 12 weeks and sometimes a little more, you've no baby bump to show! So to the outside world you're just a little fatter than normal and looking less than your best. Also, no scan for 12 weeks... even I'm starting to think I just have a bug! Hmm this is a tough trimester and there is no midwife contact until it's pretty much over! That's just nuts! Nows the time I've got some many questions! AngrySorry, needed the rant! Feel better. Smile

Oh it’s awful. It’s no mans land. I had a private scan at 7 weeks, I then developed food poisoning at 9 weeks so I had to go to the EPU and they scanned me again. That helped pass the waiting and not knowing. I relate it to week 40 which is where I am now - it’s a very similar feeling!

Flowersandrainbows2017 · 06/07/2019 16:39

Oh yes, it’s very odd! I’m finding it all very surreal too, especially as trying not to tell anyone before 12weeks! How many weeks are you?
I’m just coming up to 8 weeks. I’ve not even got it very bad (yet!) just fairly mild nausea, wind (that feels like period cramps and panics me until it, um, passes 😁) boobs feel bruised and I’m tired beyond tired! Yet I feel in limbo and anxious not knowing if everything is actually progressing well in there! I want to book an early scan, DH isn’t keen...not yet anyway.

Ahh! Also feel better for the bit of a rant! Smile

I'm 9 weeks! Glad to hear we're in the same boat! A private scan might be a big help! I need some reassurance during this time! Thank god for Mumsnet!!

Absolutely! Sometimes I scare myself, but most of the time it’s just reassuring to know you’re not alone!
We’re due to go on holiday in a few weeks-I’ll be about 11 weeks then, so DH wants to get a scan just before then so we can decide definitely whether to go, just so we know if things at least look ok. I want to get a scan next week because I’m dying of anxiety waiting to find out if there’s a heartbeat!!!
Are you going to consider one?

feelingsicknow · 06/07/2019 17:27

Private scan at 10 weeks was really reassuring and helped us get through to the 12 week point. Wasn't too expensive and was a really lovely time. Congratulations and best of luck ThanksSmile

HorseMum91 · 06/07/2019 17:27

Gosh I’m totally the same! I thought the two week wait after ovulation felt like a lifetime but this 12 weeks is something else!
I’ve not been having many symptoms really either and find myself questioning every twinge.
We not told anyone yet either, if I had a close friend who’s had children I’d probably be grilling them at the moment but I’ve got no one to bounce questions off of at the moment. DH is great, but still can’t help feeling a little alone

Flowersandrainbows2017 · 06/07/2019 17:38

It’s my first ever pregnancy, so I’m hardly in a position to advise/answer questions, but I also question every twinge, so at least we could analyse together!! Grin
Also get the feeling alone bit, my DH is amazing too and I have also told a close friend, yet still feel massively in limbo!
Scan about 10 weeks does sound like a good idea, I’m just impatient!!

Dweebette · 06/07/2019 22:03

Yes to all this!! Feel grim most of the time, spotty face , bloated belly (thank you constipation), absolutely knackered and emotional as hell so quite often red eyed as well. Yet we must put on a poker face and pretend all is OK until that 12 week scan. It is horrendously difficult!! But obviously so happy to be in this position. Hoping for my booking in appointment in 2 weeks then scan 2 weeks later but may be wishful thinking as my area seems to be slow. Only one place does early scans too and it's not near us

I feel like I could have written the original post in this thread @volleymummy! I am 8+1 and it was only until I had my early reassurance scan today that it felt a lot more real. Before today all I had was a stick that I peed on! 😂 I have been feeling rubbish and sluggish too, I can't wait to finally get that "pregnancy glow!"
But it definitely helps to know that I've seen our little bean today and saw the heartbeat flickering away and only have another few weeks to go until the 12 week! Also going on holiday next week which will be a little distraction.
I would recommend if you can, to go for an early scan to put your mind at ease although I appreciate it's not possible for everybody depending on what is available to you in your area. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy x

I feel exactly the same, especially when symptoms come and go. I am 10+1 & keep referring to it as Schroedinger’s pregnancy, until the scan which isn‘t for another couple of weeks. I am feeling quite anxious about it.

I had my booking in appointment last week & all the way through I kept thinking that all I had done was pee on three sticks a stick but the midwife just believes me that I’m pregnant! I have told a handful of close friends & some family, which has also been reassuring.

So so glad to find this thread! I'm a bit earlier only 5+1 had an early miscarriage last month so been very nervous about this (this is our first).

I agree it's madness so many things you shouldn't and should do/eat and there's no one to advise you until so much later! Not to mention all of the questions!

I'm having an early scan at 6+5 (hoping to see something nervous it's a bit early and I might be disappointed by starting to tell parents that weekend and we wanted a bit of reassurance before telling them 🤞🏻

As I was nervous had beta blood test done last week which reassured me and the tests are darker still so 🤞🏻 this one sticks.

I also want the pregnancy glow currently my glow is just oily skin that has brown out in spots 😩
And my stomach looks 6 months but can't even blame constipation if anything it's the other one 🙈😩

Mrsmummy90 · 07/07/2019 00:13

With dc1 I found that early scans were reassuring and reminded me that I wasn't just imagining it all.
With dc2 I've been much more chilled as I've been too busy with dc1 to think about the pregnancy much.

If you feel it will help, get a private scan. The first trimester is horrible so do whatever you can to feel as comfortable and happy as possible xx
