I just look fat, not pregnant

Feeling a bit meh today. Most clothes I own no longer fit properly but it's because I've gotten fat and it isn't a baby bump. I'm getting huge. My mum and DP say I'm starting to show but honestly I think they're just trying to spare my feelings. I own a mirror and I can feel how tight my underwear is getting. It is due to my thickening stomach, hips, thighs and bum. I'm feeling really down about it. It doesn't help that so far I haven't felt baby move (18+4) and so I don't feel particularly pregnant atm just fat and bloated. Sorry for the self indulgent rant - I wondered if anyone else felt similar and if there is much I can do to change it. The weather isn't helping as I would rather wear a sack than nice weather clothes iyswim.

@AndBeholdAWhiteHorse I feel the same! I’m 18+2 and had a bit of a belly before getting pregnant, so I am showing but I feel like it’s more of a ‘fat bump’ than a baby bump! It is getting me down a little bit, hoping it will round out into a proper bump.
I also feel the same with the movements- last week I could feel them a lot and it was making me feel so reassured, but since Sunday they’ve died down and I can barely feel anything (midwife checked me out and all is fine, baby seems to have just changed position). Like you I just feel fat rather than pregnant at the moment- can’t really say anything to help but just know you’re not the only one Flowers

Mamabear12 · 04/07/2019 21:23

I assume this is your first? As the round bump takes longer to show w the first. But that being said I’m 16 weeks w my third and still waiting to show more. I always gain loads w each pregnancy and luckily lose it all after. So I get far all over. My face gets huge. Every person is different so you just have to wait for that bump to appear. Many women report feeling like then just feel fat early on or bloated.

AndBeholdAWhiteHorse · 04/07/2019 21:31

I'm glad it isn't just me. This is my first and my midwife let me hear the heartbeat at 16 week appointment and that is how I know baby is kicking I just can't feel it yet. As for fat my arms, face, thighs and tummy just look huge. It doesn't suit me and I feel a frump. I think a fat bump is the best way to describe it Grin @MrsS7 hoping to get a proper bump soon and in my head it will all smooth out! I also know my uterus is tilted so may take longer to show.

Yes, I also feel this way. Second pregnancy, 18 weeks and no bump yet, just extra fat on my arms, legs and bottom. With my first pregnancy I had terrible bloat around my face and lower legs but always had a high tight flat bump without that rounded shape. I still dipped in at the waist until about 32 weeks. Oh to be slim all over with a football stuck on the front but we are not all made that way.

Lumosknox · 04/07/2019 22:48

I'm 21+5 and feeling gross. I have a definite bump but feel self conscious that it's too early to be as big as it is. My boobs are also getting pretty big (they were already big to start with) but not in a sexy way in a gross blubbery way where they make clothes look bad. I do not feel nice in a single outfit I own! I guess this is how lots of women feel and it will be worth it and the weight will go back down after but it gets me down too atm. Wish it was winter and I could cover up with big jumpers!

mistermagpie · 04/07/2019 22:48

I'm 18+3, third baby, and I've never felt less attractive in my life. I've gained loads of weight (I was very slim to begin with but nausea means I've been eating for ten) and seem to be getting wider rather than a bump.

No movement here either, phoned the midwife and she pretty much told me I was being silly so that was nice.

I don't actually enjoy pregnancy anyway, but this time I look the worst I ever have. I feel quite selfish saying that, but I do feel down about it despite being excited about the baby.

SillySallyStruthers · 05/07/2019 18:28

I'm the same as you! 18+5 and feel like I just look large all over - I'm wondering if much at all is actually baby bump!

Starrynights86 · 05/07/2019 18:32

I didn’t look pregnant until about twenty/twenty one weeks, just fat. I then got really big around 30 weeks which made everyone think I was having a giant but then my bump didn’t really get bigger for the rest of the pregnancy.

marinova · 05/07/2019 18:47

I felt exactly the same! I kept thinking everyone was looking at me thinking 'lay off the cakes fatty' 😅 Im now 28 weeks and have only just got a proper bump. Don't worry about feeling him/her move yet, I didn't feel him until about week 22 and now he loves having a little kicking rave every day

MrsWeir1980 · 06/07/2019 08:36

I feel exactly the same, im 19 weeks today and i have a B bump not a D bump, my belly seems to pinch in around my belly button so i just feel i look fat! I try to eat healthily but im hungry all the time 🙄🙄 and chocolate is my major vice! I hope we all start to show soon ladies xx

userabcname · 06/07/2019 08:47

Don't worry OP, I remember the "fat bump" stage lasting aaaaages with my first - then I suddenly popped around 25 weeks I think it was. I'm pregnant with my second now and the fat phase was much shorter although I still feel like a beached whale even with a bump!

AndBeholdAWhiteHorse · 06/07/2019 12:27

I was always quite chubby as a teenager and I worked hard to lose it. Now it is back it gets me down and I'm sooo hungry too @MrsWeir1980 but like you trying to eat healthily/sensibly when all I want is a magnum or chips Blush

@AndBehold, don't worry, it's normal as all pps have said.
If it helps, I just looked bloated until I was 28 weeks when I started to look like I was gaining weight, I'm now 38+2 and have only started to look really pregnant in the past 5 weeks or so. Whereas my cousins wife who is literally only a couple days behind me has looked properly pregnant since 18 weeks, but she has had a baby already whereas this is my first.

icantremembermylastusername · 06/07/2019 12:45

I'm sooooooo glad I've found this thread !!!

I've felt so miserable as I just look fatt(er) not pregnant and I haven't felt baby move yet (I'm 20 + 4). I'm already a bit of a chunk Blush and seeing all these lovely ladies with gorgeous bumps at 18 weeks has made me feel a bit crap tbh. It's nice to know I'm not the only one! X

Dec2019mumtobe · 06/07/2019 13:07

I'm 17+2 and exactly the same!!

I'm just going with it. Pretending it's baby where it's probably not. 🤣🤷🏻‍♀️

Sianii · 06/07/2019 16:23

I feel exactly the same people keep asking me ‘are you showing yet’ and i’m Just like no bump, just seems my existing podge is being pushed out further and further 😂😂. Only bright side is people who see me on a regular basis know i’m Pregnant so they just say i’m ‘padding out’ for the baby 😂😂

I do really wish my boobs would stop growing though, they were a fair size before hang but even wearing bigger clothes I can see my boobs are pushing buttons out of them 🤨

Babycakes1989 · 06/07/2019 21:55

I felt like this at your stage please don’t worry it will come ❤️ I didn’t get my first movement (this is my first baby) until the night before my 20 week scan weirdly and I’m now 29 weeks and have only popped this week and had people finally realise I’m pregnant!!! It’s really helped my self esteem as before I didn’t feel pregnant just fat and bloated. Xx

TillyTheTiger · 06/07/2019 22:01

Yep, I'm 27 weeks and feel absolutely enormous, I've gained about 2st so far and in my first pregnancy I gained about 3.5st in total. Lost over 4st in 8 months afterwards though so I'm not too worried, hopefully it will all fall off with breastfeeding again.

Sleepyquest · 07/07/2019 09:30

Omg in the same. And everyone says oh you don't look pregnant. I'm 21w+4 and starting to look bumpy at the top but the bottom is still all flab. It was really bothering me but I can't do anything about it. Always thought I'd have a cute little bump but alas I don't.

bobble53 · 07/07/2019 16:03

Here here Sad I keep getting told on a regular basis at work “you’re getting wider rather than getting a bump” - way to make a pregnant hormonal woman feel better eh?!

AndBeholdAWhiteHorse · 07/07/2019 17:12

I hear you @bobble53 my (not so) DP just told me that the neighbours commented I'm getting big... He was joking around but I've literally been in 20 mins and been up for work since 4.30 am. Add in hormones and I'm pissed off.
