Early scans

Hi everyone I thought I'd create this thread for a bit of advise and share experiences 😁

Anyone had or having an early scan?

I had an early miscarriage last month so having an early scan just to check everything is looking ok and also because I'm too impatient to wait 12 weeks 🙈

It was booked for when I would be 7 weeks 1 day (from lmp) but it looks like we're going to have to reschedule it and I'm going to see if they can do it when I will be 6 weeks 4 days.

Anyone else had one this early, could you see much/hear a heartbeat? Worried going that early might panic me if they can't see much or detect the heartbeat 🙈

They can see heartbeat at 6ish weeks

But, how I'm confused. Why are you having a scan if you miscarried?

Abi58 · 04/07/2019 07:35

*6 weeks 5 days if that makes any difference 🙈

Hey! I had one at 6 weeks 2 days as I'd previously had a miscarriage and had some bleeding.

This was it! Not much to see but squinter of a fetal pole and they could just make out the flutter of a heart

However, I was warned it's really hit and miss that early so don't panic if nothing shows up!!

Good luck (now 14 + 2)

Oops! Photo won't post but basically a squiggly line!

I had a scan at 5+1 just a sac at 7+1 heartbeat. U may see a heartbeat but maybe not think its best to be over 7wks x

Abi58 · 04/07/2019 08:01

@AstroKate @Angelinthenightx congratulations! We were hoping to do it after 7weeks but the only time we get to tell my dad who we have to travel to see is that weekend so having to rearrange. Wanted to have it before we told parents just for peace of mind 😁 and something to show them that isnt a stick I've peed on 🙈
We were booked for 7+1 but need to rearrange and only app before is 6+5 and ideally wanted it before (might go back for another at 8/9 weeks if a good experience to break up the wait til 12 weeks 🙈)

I had a viability scan at 6+6 earlier this year (for an ivf pregnancy not due to previous issues or concerns). Was quite surprised that the private clinic we went to (we were abroad on holiday) said they would try an abdominal scan first rather than doing it TV but they found 2 gestational sacs and we got to hear 2 heartbeats!! (A lot of clinics here won’t actually have the volume on and will rely on seeing the heartbeat on the screen - or not - due to the scanners used)

We are now 27 weeks with said twins.

I had an early scan at 9 ish weeks, it was a transvaginal (Pros: you can have a wee! Cons: you get a 'wand' inserted Confused) so they got a nice clear view, we didn't hear the heart beat but we did see it flickering away. I don't think we heard the actual heartbeat till I was around 16 weeks with the midwife.

Congratulations on your pregnancy. Thanks

tisonlymeagain · 04/07/2019 09:47

I had a scan at 5+4 - both internal and external (think they generally always try external first) It was actually clearer on the external but was just a gestational sac and yolk sac, no definite fetal pole. Was rescanned at 7+1 and there it was it's little heartbeat flickering away!

BabySquid · 04/07/2019 19:25

@Abi58 I booked an early scan due to MC last year, they said they did them from 6 weeks so was planning on going the day before Father's Day when I would have been 6+3 going on lmp, but the sac was empty and the sonographer said I was measuring 6+1, and if nothing was there then she doubted it would be so I was referred to the EPAU, 4 days later they did another scan and there was a little flutter of a heartbeat, and they measured me at 5+6!!
Moral of the story, please don't go too early and be heartbroken like we were.
We're booked in for another Saturday when I'll be 8+2. My 5+6 is below... the dot on the right is the heartbeat 💗

I’m approx 8 weeks today (my maths). I have a private scan booked for tomorrow. This is my first pregnancy and I’m so nervous/excited. I am really hoping everything is well ❤️

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 05/07/2019 08:15

I have one booked for next Wednesday (5+6) which is the IVF clinic one and then one at my local EPU on the Friday (6+1) but that's because I had a near fatal ruptured ectopic last year and I'm also part of their miscarriage clinic so I have to go fortnightly from 6 weeks. I've never had early scans before so a bit worried about whether they will make me more/less stressed - especially if a heartbeat isn't seen next week

S082018 · 05/07/2019 09:37

Hi ladies. I am 7+5 today and have my early reassurance scan booked in for tomorrow. I am feeling sick with worry today and it's all I can think about since I woke up this morning. This will be my first so I am keeping my fingers firmly crossed that all is okay. I have never felt so nervous for anything in all my life 😞
Good luck to those who are having early scans soon! Would be good to get an update on this thread!
