I’ll actually be 16+1. What do they do on this check? Will I get to hear the heartbeat?? Xx

Going over your blood results, checking urine and BP. Listening to heartbeat at this stage depends on the midwife but I got to hear it

The usual checks - urinalysis, BP, going over your blood results from your scan appt. Then a lot of info and questions about my overall health and resources I should be using eg Bounty app.

My trust don’t do bloods at all appointments and don’t do heartbeat checks until the 28 week appointment.

Ahhhh ok so sound like they are all different! I’ll have to wait and see then! Thank you xx

Had mine yesterday! Was very quick. Just did my blood pressure, took a urine sample, asked a few questions, and then listened to the heartbeat. I wasn’t expecting her to do that since I’d read it can be hard to find at this stage but she was very confident she’d find it no problem and she did. I’m slim but have read if you’re overweight or obese it can be very difficult to find the heartbeat through the excess fat so that might play into whether they try or not (as if they try and don’t find it it’s created a problem and a lot of anxiety then).

I also asked about antenatal classes and got booked onto those.

Yes I completely understand why they wouldn’t want to do it at this stage just incase as everyone is different. I would be one that could panic as well if she couldn’t find it!! Xx

I’m glad I didn’t go into the appointment expecting it as I was really pleasantly surprised! And amazed she was so confident she’d find it. It was so lovely and unexpected, I’ve only had midwives who’ve said absolutely no recording or pictures during scans so far and was so pleased she was totally happy for me to take a short video of the heartbeat to share with my partner later on (if I’d known we’d be hearing the baby I’d have brought him). Must have listened to it a hundred times now 😂

@EmeraldRubyShark what a brill idea. My appointment is at a birth centre not a hospital so you really see the difference between the 2. The midwives are just so much more relaxed. I won’t go in expecting it but I bet my nice mw would let me record it if I ask nicely! Fingers crossed! Xx
