Pharmacy won’t sell me cream without prescription. Normal?

My midwife yesterday told me to buy some over the counter thrush cream. I’ve had prescribed stuff before but this would have been the quickest option. I couldn’t buy it yesterday as I ended up being sent to hospital for a preeclampsia check, and since I have pelvic girdle pain I just sent my partner off to the pharmacy.

The pharmacy told him they wouldn’t sell it to him without a prescription, and now I can’t get a call from my doctor until tonight when all the pharmacies will be closed. Is this normal? Should I try another pharmacy and go in for myself? My partner’s still in work so I cant ask him to do many more trips.

You can get it from a supermarket or a big Boots and bypass the pharmacist - they are (understandably) very overcautious!

Ok I’m 39+2 and I’m getting super emotional about everything this week! Might be a sign..

Anyway I’ve spoken to triage and they’ve told me Canesten is safe, so I’m going to send partner back to a new pharmacy and make sure he doesn’t tell them I’m pregnant this time.

Good plan, I had a trip to maternity assessment for a UTI and the doc warned me the antibiotics could cause thrush. Her advice was to get it from the pharmacy but not tell them I'm pregnant as otherwise they wouldnt allow me to buy it.
She said they're rightly super cautious but it's exactly what she or any other GP would prescribe me anyway if I needed it so it was the quickest way to get it.
Didnt need it as it happened but good to know!

Tell your DH not to say you’re pregnant!
You can use the external cream plus the pessary insert pessary with finger not applicator.
