Hi All,

i am 17 weeks with DS2 and have found out yesterday i will be having an Elective Section due to a hernia in a rare part of my pelvis.

I had kind of prepared myself for the news as i begged to have a natural deliver with DS1 (due to other issues not the hernia) and was hoping id be able to do the same this time however, no look and section booked for 39 weeks all being well ( various other issues meaning may well be moved forwards to 37 weeks )

I know have a while to do my research and to inform myself on a section however, would just like some advice from anyone who has previously had one in terms of recovery etc.

I am having kittens about the thought of not being able to even care fr my new born or lift him etc and its making me very uneasy.

I had a very quick and easy recovery with DS1 and was up and about within the hour. Im very independent and I'm worrying like mad that the midwives are going to have to do everything for me.

I am the first to admit i am CRAP with pain so god only knows what I'll be like in terms of the wound pain.

I know i sound like the worlds biggest hypochondriac lol!! But i really would like to read some of your experiences!

Thank you in advance!! xxx

I had an elc with my only dc. Was absolutely fine - even nice! I felt like a bit like I was in a manufacturing plant as everyone was so efficient at doing their bit of the process. Pain wise it does hurt when moving eg getting out of bed isn't easy and coughing isn't fun. But it's very manageable. My dh handed me baby for first couple of days but they're so little that after a day or two you'll be fine to pick the baby up as long as you don't rush doing it.

ive had 2 and will have my 3rd in October.
1st was emergency and last year I had elective.
Was only one booked in that day so was there for 8ish and had baby by 9.30am and home next day.
I have the lowest pain threshold ever and the paracetemol and ibroprofen they try and fob you with after as pain relief I soon put a stop too lol I just said this isn’t enough I’m in agony I need the morphine and they gave it no issues and I took a massive bottle of oral morphine home ( as I wouldn’t have left without it lol)
Some say it’s not really painful, I beg to differ I was in agony!!
I had a 13 year gap so had forgotten the pain! I feel more prepared this time as only had baby 15 months ago.
However the pain is short lived and I was back driving after 3 weeks so there is light end of tunnel!
I am probably the doom though am
Sure there will plenty of others who found it easier lol

Thanks Ladies,

@seven201im hoping this is what im like and i surprise myself. my first was only a tiny 5lb 6 and this one is most likely going to have the same growth problem so another tiny baby should help a little! Although im not looking forward to having a 21 month old at home! He is a very boisterous little thing and he is constantly jumping all over me!

Lol @kelly14 you sound like me. I cannot take another stronger than standard paracetamol and ibuprofen as makes me violently sick! im hoping i can handle it my little one is also only 15 months im sure i will be fine as i have a lot of help from my mum (DP not that helpful)

I’ve had two sections. The first was an emergency and the second elective. I like you was worried about having the elc second time round after how traumatic the emc had been and with having another little person to look after as well as a newborn. But I’m so glad I had the second section. It was such a positive calm experience - it felt unreal really. I was able to move around pretty soon after once my legs came back. I’ve healed really quickly both times and found the pain pretty manageable. Just remember to keep on top of your pain meds and don’t be afraid to ask if you need something stronger than paracetamol. Also don’t do to much too soon. Both time’s I’ve felt fine after about 2 weeks but don’t forget everything is still healing inside. I stupidly did too much one day three weeks into healing and it was so painful the following day.

Hope all goes well :)
