Baby breech at 31w - experiences?

I’m having growth scans every 3 weeks & baby has been breech for the last 2 scans. Has anyone else experienced this & did the baby turn in time?

Mine was breech throughout I’m afraid, still hadn’t turned by my c-section at 39 weeks. It got to about 34 weeks and my midwife was pretty certain that he wasn’t going to move. If it’s your first baby, it’s much less likely that they’ll turn later. My elective section was great though and I’d highly recommend it! I refused the ECV they offered, which sounded horrific.

Starship12 · 02/07/2019 08:43

Yes, my baby was still breech up until I had a scan at 36 weeks (1st baby). She was breech at a 32 week scan. I agree with pp tho! An elective section is great! I didn’t want an ecv if baby hadn’t turned.

This baby was breech at 32 weeks, confirmed by mw, about a week later I woke up and he felt in a totally different position and yep, he had turned. He's been head down since! Still plenty of time to turn at the moment. You could check out the spinning babies website for tips on how to get them moving!

TheAgeofAnxiety · 02/07/2019 09:48

My DS turned at 34 weeks, I clearly felt it and was confirmed by a scan next week Smile

MummyOfTwo92 · 02/07/2019 09:53

My first DC was breach the entire pregnancy and nobody picked it up till about 30 weeks. The midwife thought it was her head but it was just by chance another midwife felt my stomach and said it was her bum. She never turned and although I was offered for them to turn her, the consultant told me it has more of a percentage of not working and they normally turn back again if successfully turned out of the position. I ended up having a c section and another c section after with my 2nd.

Im 34 weeks today! Baby has been transverse the whole way through until a fortnight ago (possibly more) when she had turned breech! I have a growth scan and placenta check this morning so will update as to where she has decided to lay now! I reckon she is back to transverse though! She moves like crazy though and makes me jump, and sometimes I’m sick as well!
Fingers crossed our babies start to behave themselves and turn head down soon lol x

nespressowoo · 02/07/2019 10:04

DS breech until 37/40 then turned head down. Such a strange sensation.

mynameiscalypso · 02/07/2019 10:15

Baby is definitely head done now (nearly 33 weeks) but I think he only turned at 31 weeks. We had an active day of moving boxes around and dismantling furniture and that seemed to move him. That said, I do have excess amniotic fluid so he might well float around again.

Breech all the way along, was anticipating section would be needed as wasn't much room for her to turn. Did try the spinning babies exercises but they required a bit more strength and dexterity than my v preg body was capable of! Did not fancy trying ecv, figured she was that way round for a reason. Waters went at 36wk, and at hospital I was surprised I was offered section or vaginal birth, was not expecting that and had not looked into how it would work so had to make decision there and then. Opted for section as I knew more about outcomes etc. As with other pps, section was a good experience for me.

I was 30+ weeks when my DD was transverse. She kept moving, head down then bum down.... you name it. She even moved back to transverse while I was being induced (not induced because she was transverse). At one point I told the midwife, she didn't believe until she examined me..... yep, transverse again.

There's still loads of time and you're having regular scans so any problems will be picked up

BrioLover · 02/07/2019 13:20

My baby was breech until 36.5 weeks - I had a weekend where I felt utterly awful and thought I'd come down with a bug but this was actually him turning of his own accord. I had been booked into see a consultant plus a scan at 37 weeks but didn't need that because he turned.

Slicedpineapple · 02/07/2019 13:47

Didn't want to read and run. My baby was fine all the way through then went breach during labour. They were ready to deliver her in that position and were shocked when she came out the right way at the last minute.

There are lots of exercises you can do on birthing balls to encourage them to move x

Slicedpineapple · 02/07/2019 13:49

Oh sorry I'm very sleep deprived. She wasn't breach, she was back to back! Either way, hopefully that is somehow helpful to heat.

Grandmi · 02/07/2019 14:14

Two of mine were breech and my son literally was turning 360degrees at 34 weeks due to polyhydramnios...basically he was swimming!! ELCS for both ...absolutely fine and recovered very quickly both times.

happytobemrsg · 02/07/2019 20:02

I was breech & my mum had a vaginal delivery with me (not through choice). It really messed up my hips - I had hip displacia & was in a single cast for a while. So I will definitely choose the c-section over a vaginal delivery.

For those babies who did turn - did you feel it? Was it like a big flip or was it gradual?

BTW this will be my second baby - DS1 was born via a vaginal delivery @ 38w

Both mine were and both turned around 35/36 weeks. With my first I had no idea she had turned. I felt it with my second (son). He seemed to go horizontal (transverse?) for a bit which made my bump look odd. He then flipped the right way.

I did lots of bouncing and hip rolling on a birthing ball. Not sure if it helped or not!

legalseagull · 02/07/2019 20:36

My baby did the exact opposite. Was head down at my 36 week check, by the time I went in to hospital in labour he was sideways! (Transverse?) By the time they got me to theatre for a c section he had spun again to breech! Point is - the can move at ANY time

Lexyness · 02/07/2019 21:20

@happytobemrsg
Had my scan - baby has turned and is now head down - yay!
She moves so much I’m not sure when it happened but I can tell you that when she initially moved from transverse to breech it made me sick! My guess would be that she moved yesterday/overnight because this morning I could feel hiccups in a totally different place to normal!
Also saw my MW and she said there is still a slight chance she will move back but fingers crossed she won’t! I’m going to be checked again in 2 weeks! Also it was a triple ‘yay’ appointment! Placenta has moved out the way now and baby is growing well - I’m thinking she will be my biggest yet! x

Prettylittlebumblebee · 02/07/2019 23:39

I'm 36 plus 3 and having a scan tomorrow to see if baby has turned. They can't tell if it's his head or bottom down as both feel skinny. He was head down when I had a scan 4d scan but at every midwife app he has been classed as breech. I have a feeling he's head down. Will find out tomorrow

TheAgeofAnxiety · 03/07/2019 05:50

In my case it was the evening of a Champions League final and the team both me and DH hate with a passion conceded a goal. We screamed and jumped and I clearly felt a sudden big movement in my tummy. We love to think that DS was celebrating as well in his way Grin

Justtickingboxes · 03/07/2019 06:20

I really recommend exercises (see spinning babies website). I was referred to the NHS Breech clinic once baby was still transverse at 34 weeks and they prescribed daily exercises (sitting on exercise ball, kneeling with chest flat against floor etc) and moxibustion (which I didn't do, as it looked weird!). I managed to get baby to turn and had a normal vaginal delivery. The only thing is that baby got the cord around her neck (apparently this is a risk with babies who turn late), so I had to stop pushing at one point in mid-contraction till the midwife sorted this out! All went well thank God
