Conception multivitamins; did they work for you?

6 months ttc baby #2 (despite everyone saying “oh you’ll catch so quick second time around” 🙄). I just wondered if anyone started taking multivitamins and then conceived?

When ttc DS I tried both the seven seas conception and pregnecare; but have since read some really awful reviews about them messing with cycles (and mine are much better than last time ttc).

My friend has had ivf before and was told all she should worry about is folic acid (which I’m already taking).

Thanks in advance.

I conceived after several rounds of ivf and am now carrying identical twins.

They didn't mess up my cycles, but they didn't help either. Personally, I think they are just one more gimmick marketed to vulnerable women.

Folic acid is cheaper, and all you need at this stage. Then when you concieve, add in 10mg vit D

I was 8 cycles ttc baby 1 and nothing. Took pregnacare and DH took wellman and we fell on the 9th cycle. Currently 9+3. I genuinely believe they worked.

Mamabear12 · 01/07/2019 19:44

I took a prenatal for a few months before conceiving and after my dh took for a few months as well.

You're going to get a lot of confirmation bias on this thread

It took us a year to conceive. I took Boots own brand of conception vitamins the whole time. I dont feel that they helped much, however they didn't mess up my cycle.

My OH started taking the Wellman conception vitamins and also 1000mg of vitamin C a day and we concieved a couple months later.

Cant say it was the vitamins that did it, but I believe they were a help.

twinkledag · 01/07/2019 20:04

No they didn't work for me, we had to have IVF in the end. I've had one cycle that worked and 3 that have failed.

NotwhereIshouldbe · 01/07/2019 21:49

Took me three years to conceive and I stopped taking pregnacare after the first year of trying so didn’t work for me!

You have posted on the pregnancy board, so inevitably most posters here will answer ‘yes’ to your question. For balance you would also need to post on Infertility, where you will find many many posters who have read It Starts with the Egg from cover to cover and tried every vitamin and supplement going without success.

Folic acid is really important but that is for the development of the foetus, rather than to improve the odds of conception.

I mostly think that these all in one vitamins are a bit pointless. However, if you do have a vitamin deficiency in say Vit D or Zinc, or your body can't process folic acid it can affect fertility.
Vitamin deficiency is not something that Dr’s will routinely test you for - unless you are showing symptoms in day to day life.

I have extensively researched this subject, (recurrent miscarriage with no cause found) the conclusion is that they need a few months to effect and they are in higher doses and more effective forms that you get in a "conception" all in one supplement.

I wouldn't waste the money - get Folic acid and Vit D separately (This is current NHS advice when TTC) - saving yourself a lot of money.

If you want to look into supplements further, a PP mentioned "it starts with the egg" it's an interesting read.

I used the seven seas took a year to get pregnant but i would say getting my smear test made me get pregnant as got pregnant a few wks after getting this x

bananaontoast1 · 02/07/2019 10:33

I took seven seas conception, my husband took wellman conception and also he had a glass of juice with a spoon of testosterone powder (body builder stuff) every morning - we'd been trying for months before this, one month of these 3 things and we fell pregnant. :)

ke11y86 · 02/07/2019 14:21

We were trying for 7 months (took folic acid and vit D) before trying pregnacare conception (for him and her) got caught after 1 pack... obviously could be a fluke but we believe this did have some benefit to us. I would say worth a try! Good luck 🍀

lovesT · 02/07/2019 15:21

I have no idea if they work either but after 3/4 months of trying I started taking pregnacare conception and a month later husband started on wellman conception and we got pregnant about month 6. Obviously there is no way of knowing if they helped but that is what happened! I also thought surely vitamins can't harm and could help ... hope you get what you want soon 😊

Chefwifelife · 02/07/2019 18:19

Thanks for all the messages. I’m still undecided but I always like to hear people’s experiences. I may just add vitamin D and go from there.

I tried pregnacare with no success, and husband took wellman, it didn’t help me conceive. We ended up having ivf and I took them during the process along with q10 and we followed a pcos/increase sperm diet, and both embryos stuck. There’s no concrete evidence for q10, but I was told it wouldn’t hurt so ran with it.

This coupled with giving up peas of all things gave my dh super swimmers!

scratchbass · 02/07/2019 18:37

It worked for us but I think it's based on a lot more than prenatal vitamins. We took pregnacare his and hers, used conceived plus, but we also have good diets with plenty of variety of fruit & veg, neither of us smoke, both are normal weight, both have a good work/life balance, both take regular exercise etc.

twinkledag · 02/07/2019 21:04

@MuchTooTired - can you expand on the super sperm diet and what it involves?

firstimemamma · 02/07/2019 21:12

It's impossible to say if the vitamins work or not. Someone could take them and get pregnant but they could've got pregnant just as easily without them iyswim. It's impossible to prove. Just like when people give out inducing labour tips - did those tips actually work or were those women just destined to go into labour when they did anyway?

I took Pregnacare conception and got pregnant. The vitamins made me feel like I was doing some good for my body in preparation for pregnancy. Whether they 'worked' - who knows?

I hope you get your BFP soon Thanks

Shaunieh95 · 02/07/2019 23:33

I took the Seven Seas trying for a baby tablets with DS1 and fell on after 1 cycle. Could be coincidence however lots of positive reviews of these online from women TTC for a while! Good luck and fingers crossed for your BFP soon x Flowers
