I tested 2 cheapies and got 2 pencil thin test lines. then the next day i did FMU and got a BFN. I don't know what's going on! What does this mean? Am I out?

When is/was your period due? How do you track ovulation?

kaylapattyl · 30/06/2019 17:41

Period due in like 8 days.

If you’re not due for another week, you’re testing too early. Even the most sensitive tests (FRER) only detect from maximum 6 days before period is due.

Also, are you sure you’re already 14+ days post ovulation but still a week from your period? How long is your usual cycle and do you normally track ovulation?

kaylapattyl · 01/07/2019 22:57

I mean I’m 14 days post sex.

Ok, so do you have any idea when you ovulated? Do you track it in any way?
Are you actually trying to get Pregnant?

If you are due your period in a week’s time, it’s likely you are a week (or thereabouts) post ovulation - assuming your cycle is around 28 days and assuming your luteal phase is around 14 days. Sperm can survive around 5 to 7 days post sex so, depending on when you ovulated, you may possibly have a small chance of being pregnant but it is small.

If you are trying to conceive it’s worth following your cycle and either doing temperature charting, monitoring your cervical mucus or using ovulation predictor tests which will give you an idea of your fertile window. This then gives you the chance to maximise chances of conception during that window.

I had sex on the 17th. I am trying to conceive. Is it still a small chance?

When you say you're 13dpo are you meaning that it's 13 days since you last had sex? Because dpo means days post ovulation. If you've got a 28 day cycle then the average woman ovulates on the 14th day of her cycle (with the first day of your cycle being the day that your period started). The longer your cycle is the later you'll ovulate.

I'd echo what another poster says and maybe learn some more about your cycle/fertility because you could be missing ovulation.

If you last had sex 13 days ago then there's a chance you could be pregnant and it's too early to show up on a test. But if your period isn't due for a week and you haven't had sex since the 17th then I don't think there's a chance this cycle.

I agree, you can’t be 14 DPO and have a period due in 8 days. The luteal phase lasts 12-16 days, generally 14 (hence “two week wait”). It can be shorter but that’s a fertility issue.
It’s the bit before the two week wait that differs between women hence different cycle lengths.

what is the possibility of pregnancy if i forgot my pill 7 days before my period and had sex on the same night?

OP posts:
Cookit · 02/07/2019 17:20

Oh wait, you’re on the pill? Did you just forget one pill?

kaylapattyl · 02/07/2019 18:01

I forgot a few. Three to be exact.

Your posts are very confusing - you say you are trying to conceive but then say you forgot to take you contraceptive pill the day you had sex and then say it’s actually 3 days of pills you forgot.

Are you missing occasional pills to ‘accidentally’ get pregnant or are you actively trying to conceive? If actively trying you should stop taking the pill completely as they can really mess about with your cycle if you are not taking them properly. If trying to fall pregnant accidentally you need to stop and have a good think about why you are doing this and why you are taking such a risk.

The following is a précis of the advice given on the NHS website about what you should do if you miss taking the pill (either type) Depending on whether you’re on the progesterone only ‘mini’ pill or the combined pill. If it is the mini pill then, once you have completely missed 1 tablet you are at risk of pregnancy for 7 days after restarting the pills so need to use alternative contraception in addition to the pill. With the combined pill, if you miss 2 or more pills you could become pregnant if you have unprotected sex so are advised to continue taking the rest of the pack and, if you’ve 7 or more pills left after the latest missed pill, you take your usual week’s break and have your bleed; if you have fewer than 7 pills left after the missed pills, then you should not have the week’s break and should start your next pack immediately to reduce the risk of becoming pregnant.
