Leu++ and protein in urine

Hoping this is the correct place to post!

Had my 34 week app with my midwife yesterday and the student midwife ground a trace of protein and leu++ in my urine.

She asked if I felt unwell or felt like I had a UTI and I said no I've just been getting really bad headaches. Obviously with the weather and being heavily pregnant she said I'm going to be more dehydrated so need to up my water intake and that's probably what it is.

My question is, I know the leukocytes can mean infection, but if it's an infection I've had for a while, would it have shown up on my other samples that have been tested and sent off?

Second time mum and never had any issues with my first baby, just worrying xx

I have just had the same thing and the same advice. 16w pregnant.

A trace is protein is normal for women and she wasn't concerned about the trace of leucocytes.

She also asked if I was getting enough to drink. Truthfully, it was morning and I'd been a bit dehydrated the day before - we'd walked around town in the sun for 3 hours and I probably hadn't had enough to drink.

I only vaguely remember what I read online at the time, but I believe a trace is nothing to worry about, a score of one needs a retest in a few days and a score of two is cause for concern (this might have been the protein test).

Yes if you'd have had any in your urine before, it would have shown up and they send cultures for further testing.

It might be in your green notes? I think mine is. At booking I had a trace of ketones and she read that out of my notes.

My advice is to drink more and not worry. If she was concerned she'd have sent you for further testing!

Thank you ladies ❤️

I have always had NAD on my urine tests so this one threw me! She asked if I have been drinking enough and I said if I'm honest probably not! And she said ah that will be it then, but you know when they're so chilled as they're the medical profession and you get home and google EVERYTHING. I also had a miscarriage last September so feel like I'm on high alert with everything 😂.

I'm going to try my best to drink more water not squash and stay out the sun as much as I can xx
